Roy K. Crilly

Roy Kenneth "Pap" Crilly, 69, of 136 Plantation Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 31, 1928, in Charlton, Md., he was the son of the late William G. and Emma Mae Reed.

He retired from Maryland Correctional Training Center in the maintenance department.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren. He was president and member of the United Workers Sunday School Class.

He was a member of the church softball league and the Oldtimers Softball League; Hagerstown Prison Complex bowling league; and a member of the American Legion Post 202, Williamsport.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Clark Crilly; two daughters, Lisa Stotelmyer of Hagerstown and Amy Hardy of Boonsboro; one son, Mark Crilly of Hagerstown; two sisters, Mary Violet of Boonsboro; one son, Mark Crilly of Hagerstown; two sisters, Mary Violet of Boonsboro and Alyce King of Hagerstown; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Vantz and Catherine Gaver; five brothers, Harry Crilly, Earl Crilly, Raymond Crilly, Lloyd Crilly and Roger Crilly.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Rachel Black, the Rev. Al Guyer and the Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Anna R. Stotler

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Anna Rose Stotler, 68, of Berkeley Springs, who died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, is also survived by a sister, Mayme Weller of Hancock.

Edith P. Barnhart

Services for Edith Pearl "Bill" Barnhart, 77, of 516 Indiana Ave., Hagerstown, who died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Darryl C. Zoller and the Rev. Robert S. Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Carl V. Besore

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Carl Vanderau Besore, 85, of 9338 Meadowbrook Drive, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at his home.

Born June 3, 1912, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Katherine L. Diffenderfer Besore.

He was a 1930 graduate of Waynesboro High School and a 1932 graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, Pa. He then attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., for two years. He then graduated from the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C., in 1941.

He served with the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943.

Prior to the military, he was employed by Westinghouse Electric Co., Baltimore, in defense electronics. After the military, he returned to Waynesboro and opened an electrical and refrigeration business in the basement of 34 W. Main St., Waynesboro.

He served as the first chairman of the Washington Township Municipal Authority, serving 7 1/2 years during which time the township's $14 million sewer project was implemented and nearly completed.

He was well versed in local history and published, along with Robert Ringer, three volumes of local history with Friends of the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, which received all proceeds of the sales. He and Ringer created Reminiscing, which became one of The Record Herald's most popular features.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 for more 50 years; and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Leila M. McKenzie Besore, whom he married on April 4, 1942; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Stuart Troutman will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library Endowment Fund, 45 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268; or the Salem United Church of Christ, 4881 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

George H. Resh

George Harvey Resh, 70, of Noland Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 12, 1927, in Broadfording, he was the son of the late Wesley and Frances Rhodes Resh.

He retired from Halls Motor Transit.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Broadfording Church of God.

He was a member of Truck Drivers Hall of Fame, Halls Motor Retiree Club and AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite "Margie" Mills Resh; two sons, Gary L. Resh of Hagerstown and George A. Resh of Oklahoma; four sisters, Mary L. Horst of Chambersburg, Pa., Sarah Spickler, Dorothy Baker and June Murphy, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Charles Resh of Cearfoss and Ralph Resh of Big Pool; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Blanche Lopes; and four brothers, Kenneth Resh, David Resh, John Resh and Jim Resh.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Union Rescue Missions Inc., 125 N. Prospect St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Harry S. Calain

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Harry S. Calain, 69, of Indian Lane, Hagerstown, and Melbourne, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born in Bowden, W.Va., on May 11, 1928, he was the son of the late Elmer and Janette Tingler Calain.

He graduated from Elkins High School and Command and General Staff College.

He served in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart and other service-related awards after serving 30 years in the Army.

He retired from civil service, after serving as OSHA safety director for the federal government.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of American Legion Post 42 and AMVETS Post 10, both in Hagerstown; V.F.W. Post 1599 in Chambersburg, Pa., and Elks Lodge 63 in Cumberland, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Lois L. "Loilu" Martin Calain; two daughters, Sharon L. Hopper of Hammond, Ind., and Beverly D. Dennison of Elkins, W.Va.; one son, Edward H. Calain of Elkins; two stepsons, Jeffrey W. Martin of Orlando, Fla., and Todd A. Martin of Libertyville, Ill.; one brother, Fred L. Calain of Bridgeport, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland. Pastor Michael Mudge will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Cumberland.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.

Douglas H. Starliper

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Douglas H. Starliper, 33, of 6459 Rock Hill Road, died Monday, Aug. 11, 1997, at his home.

Born June 12, 1964, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of James R. Starliper of Marion, Pa., and the late Jean E. Statler Starliper.

He was a 1982 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was employed as a salesman by Modern Home Appliances, Chambersburg.

He was an active member of the Salvation Army in Chambersburg.

He enjoyed working on car restorations.

He was a volunteer in rehabilitation of alcoholics and drug addicts.

In addition to his father, he is survived by three sisters, Debbie D. Barnhart, Delane J. Starliper and Deanne F. Schriver, all of Chambersburg; one brother, Donald A. Starliper of Marion; his fiancee, Rachel L. Cane of Chambersburg; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Chapel, 159 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg. Captain John Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, Pa.

The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa., Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the Salvation Army Chapel one hour prior to the service Thursday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 159 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Richard L. Ridenour

Richard L. "Dick" Ridenour, 55, of 502 Lynnehaven Drive, Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 11, 1997, at his home.

Born Oct. 27, 1941, in Security, Md., he was the son of Sarah Jayne Barrow Goodwin of Savannah, Ga., and the late Charles Leroy Ridenour.

He retired from Independent Cement Corp.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

He was a member of North American Rod and Gun Club; Goodwill Athletic Club; and Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790, Mercersburg, Pa.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Linda Householder Ridenour; two daughters, Kathy Ridenour of Summit Point, W.Va., and Julie Twiss of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Hopkins of Hagerstown; three sons, Peter Ridenour of Ohio City, Ohio, John Ridenour and Rick Ridenour, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Lynda McDowell of Savannah; one half-sister, Carlett Evans of Hagerstown; one half-brother, Charles Ridenour of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. W. Carl Zinn will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Jeanna L. Eavey

Jeanna Lee Eavey, 39, of 1114 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Born July 24, 1958, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Glenn and Mabel Stains of Hagerstown.

She was a 1976 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

She previously was employed by Richardson's Restaurant.

She was a member of Zion Reformed Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

She was a member of Washington County ABATE of Maryland.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Donald Lee Eavey Jr.; three sons, Cody Lee Myers of Hagerstown, Dylan Lee Eavey, at home, and Justin Lee Eavey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Sandra J. "Sissy" Cashdollar of Hagerstown; one stepsister, Glenda Stains of Mt. Airy, Md.; and one stepbrother, David Lee Stains of Mt. Airy.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robison and the Rev. Gail Rubble will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

James F. Flory

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - James F. Flory, 61, of 1225 Upland Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at his home.

Born Jan. 8, 1936, in Fayetteville, he was the son of Louise J. Brookens Flory of Fayetteville and the late Edward F. Flory.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1979. He reached rank of sergeant first class. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, two overseas service bars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, and Vietnam Service Medal with two service bars.

He was a member of Hume McNeal Byers AMVETS Post 224, Chambersburg, Pa.

In addition his mother, he is survived by his wife, Barbara L. Bowser Flory; one daughter, Jill R. Phinicle of Rouzerville, Pa.; two sons, James F. Flory II of South Boston, Va., and Edward L. Flory of Chambersburg; two sisters, Bonnie Dunn of Exton, Pa., and Pam Crum of Fayetteville; one brother, Denny Flory of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Pastor Scott Odgen will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg.

There will be no public viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
