Gertrude Burke

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Gertrude Burke, 91, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born June 15, 1906, in Gallitizin, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank Hufford and Lylie Sweeney Hufford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Burke.

She was a retired printer with National Carbon Co., Cleveland.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by one daughter, Dolores McCoy of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; one sister, Pauline Lingafelt of Cassandra, Pa.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by one son, Elmer Richard Burke; and sisters and brothers.

Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are made by Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

Ronald L. Shives Sr.

HANCOCK - Ronald Lee Shives Sr., 57, of East Main Street, who died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997, is survived by a brother, Kenny Shives of Hancock.

I. Brad Shingler

I. Brad Shingler, 45, of 51 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 6, 1952, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Ivan Bland and Ruth Naomi Keiter Shingler of Hagerstown.

He was a 1971 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.

He was employed by Allied Wood, Winchester, Va., until Dec. 1994. He was previously employed by Heritage, Brandt Cabinet Works Inc., and American Stair and Rail.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Tammy J. Lantz Shingler; two daughters, Brandi Shingler and Ashley Shingler, both of Hagerstown; one son, Brad Aaron Shingler, at home; two stepsons, Gary Shirley and Brandon Shirley, both at home; two sisters, Bonnie Spooner and Vickie Brunner, both of Hagerstown; three brothers, Michael Shingler, Christopher Shingler and Anthony Shingler, all of Hagerstown; paternal grandmother, Florence Parsons of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. William C. Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul E. Eyler Jr.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Paul E. Eyler Jr., 65, of 150 N. Church St., died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at his home.

Born Dec. 22, 1931, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Paul E. Eyler Sr. and Louella A. Robinson Eyler.

He was a lifelong resident of Waynesboro.

He was a 1949 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955.

He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot as an electronics technician for several years. In 1966, he went to work with his father at Eyler's Plumbing and Heating, Waynesboro.

He is survived by two sons, Michael B. Eyler of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Matthew E. Eyler of Hagerstown; one sister, Mary L. Eyler of Waynesboro; one stepbrother, Charles Martin of Palm Bay, Fla.; one granddaughter; two nieces; and cousins.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Carroll Boyer will officiate.

Arrangements are being made by Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Merle F. Boward

SMITHSBURG - Merle Franklin Boward, 56, of Smithsburg, who died Sunday, Aug. 10, retired from the U.S. Army and Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.

He was a photographer for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era.

Timothy Nelson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Timothy Nelson, 49, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, formerly of 171 Greenmeadow Lane, Chambersburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at the nursing home after a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 3, 1948, in Quonset Point, R.I., he was the son of Jane S. Strite Nelson of Chambersburg and the late Robert M. Nelson.

He was a 1966 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was a member of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church, Chambersburg.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Nancy N. Spencer of New Fairfield, Conn.; three brothers, Robert M. Nelson Jr. of Richmond, Va., Christopher Nelson of Hagerstown and Daniel B. Nelson of Fayetteville, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.

Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro, Pa.

A. Burton Shafer

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A. Burton Shafer, 79, a resident of Menno Haven Penn Hall of Chambersburg, Pa., and formerly of Greencastle, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.

Born in Little Orleans, Md., he was the son of the late Archibald Richard and Edith Hazel Sauerwein Shafer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise H. Martin Shafer, who died Oct. 5, 1992.

He was a tractor-trailer driver for 30 years, employed by Pony Express and Hahn's Transportation, New Market, Md.

He attended Macedonia United Brethren Church near Greencastle.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.

He is survived by his stepmother, Harriett Shafer of Hagerstown; one daughter, Doris L. Martin of Hagerstown; three sons, Arnold B. Shafer of Enola, Pa., and Carl R. Shafer and D. Bernard Shafer, both of Huntsville, Tenn.; three sisters, Dorothy Norris of Cumberland, Md., Mary Hoover of Hagerstown and Virginia Herrick of Portland, Maine; one brothers, Dudley Shafer of Cumberland; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Allen W. Shafer; and two sisters, Edith Sharron and Mildred Offord.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Gary Zook will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kenneth D. Robinson

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. - Kenneth D. Robinson, 53, of Clarksburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1997, at Clarksburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Clarksburg.

Born Sept. 22, 1943, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Alice Virginia Dodge Lewis and the late Clifford S. Robinson and stepson of Scott Lewis of Martinsburg.

He served in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in November of 1962.

In addition to his mother and stepfather, he is survived by two brothers, Melvin Martin of Inwood, W.Va., and Michael Harrell of Martinsburg.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Paul Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Dorothy D. Jack

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Dorothy D. Jack, 72, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born June 12, 1925, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Elzie and Bertha Rogers Mooberry.

She had retired from National Fruit Products Co.

She is survived by two daughters, Anna Hayward and Judy Walker, both of Martinsburg; a stepdaughter, Joan Williamson of Martinsburg; one brother, Randolph D. Rogers of Martinsburg; one granddaughter, Sheila Moore, with whom she resided; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Golliday and Harry Rogers.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, Springs Mills, W.Va. The Rev. Mitchell L. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Falling Waters Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

I. Brad Shingler

Services for I. Brad Shingler, 45, of 51 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, Aug. 13. 1997, will be officiated by the Rev. William C. Crowe, and will be held today at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Ann D. Demanski

Ann Dolores Domanski, 74, of 12804 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at her home.

Born March 15, 1923, in Wiconisco, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Daniel T. and Ida T. Deiter Jones.

She attended Maranatha Brethren Church.

She was a member of Women's Mission Auxiliary and AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Edward J. Domanski of Hagerstown; three sisters, Ida O'Brien of Dauphin, Pa., Blodwyn Scheidlenudt of Wyoming, Pa., and Rose Grimes of Hamburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Witmer and Denny L. Witmer.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Carl Black and the Rev. Jay Fritz will officiate. Entombment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21742; and to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Phebe A. Stotelmyer

Phebe Alice Stotelmyer, 101, a resident of Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown, and formerly of Beaver Creek, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997, at the home.

Born Oct. 5, 1895, in Mt. Carmel, Md., she was a daughter of the late Otho J. and Florence Biser Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Leonard Stotelmyer, who died Sept. 4, 1971.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Jean Swenson of Martin Grove, Ill., and Peggy Swisher of Ocala, Fla.; one son, Philip R. Stotelmyer of Mt. Lena; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bruce M. Orr

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Bruce M. Orr, 63, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at his home.

Born Oct. 23, 1933, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert H. and Odessa Smith Orr.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Zombro Orr; four daughters, Wanda Childs, Diania McKinney, Tina Hutzler and Patricia Orr, all of Martinsburg; two sons, Kenneth Orr of Ft. Bliss, Texas, and Bruce M. Orr Jr. of Martinsburg; four sisters, Norma Lee Rhinaman of Hedgesville, Gloria Kitchen and Geneva Mills, both of Martinsburg and Larbelle Lynch of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Lynn Orr; three sons, Ronald Orr, Richard Orr and Scott Orr; one sister, Lillian Barrett; and two brothers, Jack Orr and Harold Orr.

Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Joseph Eversole and the Rev. Louise Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
