Emma F.F. Gaver

BOONSBORO - Emma Frances Ford Gaver, 82, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home, and formerly of 107 S. Main St., died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born June 30, 1915, in Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late Paul F. Ford Sr. and Ruth Itnyre Ford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Calvin Gaver, in 1989.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church, Boonsboro.

She is survived by one son, Donald L. Gaver of Boonsboro; and two grandsons, David L. Gaver of Herndon, Va., and Dale L. Gaver of Boonsboro.

Services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. John W. Zsittnik will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mount Nebo United Methodist Church, 134 S. Main St., Boonsboro, Md. 21713.

Gladys M. Truax

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Gladys M. Truax, 86, of 120 S. Second St., and formerly of Route 1, Warfordsburg, Pa., died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.

Born March 7, 1911, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Maude Gordon Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Truax, in 1959.

She had been employed as a seamstress by Sagner Clothing Manufacturing, prior to closing. She was previously a cook at Needmore Elementary School, Needmore, Pa.

She was a member of Amaranth Church of the Brethren.

She was the Grandmother Queen at Sagner Manufacturing in 1968.

She is survived by two brothers, Thomas Miller of Needmore and Bernie Miller of Mercersburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Claude Truax; two stepdaughters, Hilda Mellott and Josephine Deshong; one stepson, Boyd Truax; one brother, William Miller; and one grandchild.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Amaranth Church of the Brethren, Amaranth, Pa. The Rev. Frank Teeter, the Rev. Allene Teeter and the Rev. Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Sideling Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. The funeral home will be open Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Henry B. Pitzer Jr.

FOREST, Va. - Henry Bowers Pitzer Jr., 74, of Forest, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997, at his home.

Born Nov. 26, 1922, in Clearbrook, Va., he was the son of the late Henry Bowers Pitzer Sr. and Julia Hawes Brown Pitzer.

He was a graduate of Handley High School in Winchester, Va., where he became an Eagle Scout. He graduated from William and Mary College in 1943 receiving a bachelor's degree in physics and was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served as a radar man on the USS Groton.

Following the war, he was employed by Potomac Edison Co. in Hagerstown for 13 years. In 1959, he joined the General Electric Co. in Lynchburg, Va., as an engineer for more then 24 years until retirement.

He was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 9 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown and the Explorer Post at The Presbyterian Church in Hagerstown. He also was a Scout leader of Troop 29 at Peakland United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lynchburg.

He was a former member of Lynchburg Society of Engineering and Science and IEEE.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Huyett Pitzer; one daughter, Margery Pitzer Bockwoldt of Chesapeake, Va.; one son, Henry Bowers Pitzer III of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Charles Lupton Pitzer of Hagerstown; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Pitzer Vermillion.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg. The Rev. Stephen J. Schulz and the Rev. Dennis S. Roberts will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, Va. 24503.

Arrangements are by Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, 320 N. Bridge St., Bedford, Va.

Rita L. Saunders

FRANKLIN, W.Va. - Rita Lori Saunders, 35, of Franklin, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Oct. 17, 1961, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harvie and Goldie Nunley Burress.

She was formerly employed by Peoples Choice Answering Service as an operator in Harrisonburg, Va.

She is survived by one son, Jonathan Burress, at home; one sister, Eva Keesecker of Franklin; and five brothers, Thomas Burress of Severna Park, Md., Danny Burress and Wayne Burress, both of Reno, Nev., James Burress of Clearbrook, Va., and her twin, Randy Burress of Inwood, W.Va.;

Memorial services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Burial will be private.

Barbara A.M. Ellis

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Barbara A. Mowen Ellis, 54, of 8376 Stottlemyer Road, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Aug. 3, 1943, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Woodrow L. Mowen of Waynesboro and the late Isabel A. Peters Mowen.

She was employed by Waynesboro Knitting Mill; Evonne Kay Clothing Manufacturing, Waynesboro; and Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro.

She was a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Gerald F. Ellis, whom she married May 2, 1967; one daughter, Susan A. Ellis of Waynesboro; one son, Terry L. Ellis, stationed with U.S. Navy in California; one sister, Shirley J. Welsh of Waynesboro; one granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, 9244 Five Forks Road, Waynesboro. The Rev. H. Ray Kipe will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the family at 8376 Stottlemyer Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Gregory E. Mitlacher

RAWLINS, Wyo. - Gregory Ernst Mitlacher, 29, of Rawlins, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997, in Wyoming.

Born March 29, 1968, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Mary Jo Stark of Frederick, Md., and the late Hans Wolfgang Mitlacher.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Laurie Paul Mitlacher; one sister, Renee Knoblock of Hagerstown; one brother, John Mitlacher of Frederick; and stepfather, Harry Doye of Frederick.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice; or to the Naval-Marine Corps Relief Society, 801 N. Randolph St., Suite 1228, Arlington, Va. 22203-1978.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Robert J. Kipe Jr.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Robert James Kipe Jr., 68, of 505 W. Seventh St., died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, at his home.

Born Oct. 18, 1928, in Fairfield, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert James Kipe Sr. and Viola P. McIntire Kipe.

He was a 1947 graduate of Washington Township High School.

He was employed by Teledyne Landis Machine Speciality Co., Waynesboro, as an engineering clerk. He retired in 1993 after 42 years.

He was a member of the Apostolic Church of Greenstone.

He was a member of National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Floretta Jane Eyler Kipe, whom he married on Nov. 27, 1969; two sisters, Janet I. Hovis of Waynesboro and Jean C. Kline of Fairfield; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Eugene M. Cline will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of the Apostolic Church of Greenstone, 2550 Iron Springs Road, Fairfield, Pa. 17320.

Mary E. Booth

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Mary E. Booth, 72, of Route 2, who died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, is survived by sisters, Vesta Maravelis of Great Cacapon, W.Va., and Beulah Maravelis of Williamsport.

Paul H. Knepper

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Paul Harry Knepper, 85, a resident of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, Pa., and formerly of RD 1, Box 246, McConnellsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born March 8, 1912, in Hustontown, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Grace Barnett Knepper.

He was preceded in death by Thelma LaRue Deshong Knepper, who died in 1995.

He owned and operated McConnellsburg Dairy in the 1930s and 1940s. He was also employed as car salesman and heavy equipment operator.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a charter member of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Clippinger of McConnellsburg; two sons, Harold P. Knepper of Tacoma, Wash., and Carl D. Knepper of State Line, Pa.; two sisters, Laura Stevens of McConnellsburg and Beatrice Walker of Harrisonville, Pa.; two brothers, Norman Knepper of Three Springs, Pa., and Wilmer Knepper of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Maye Berkstresser; two brothers, Howard Knepper and Erman Knepper; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Center Methodist Cemetery, Hustontown.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Thursday after 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be sent to McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co., 112 E. Maple St., McConnellsburg, Pa. 17233.

Robert S. McClure

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert S. McClure, 70, of 386 E. Liberty St., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at Menno Haven Nursing Home in Chambersburg.

Born Oct. 30, 1926, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Isabelle Freet McClure.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Almeta L. Hill McClure, who died Aug. 3, 1995.

He was employed by Keystone Homes, Waynesboro, Pa., as a carpenter.

He was a member of First Church of God, Chambersburg.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 842, Chambersburg; and AARP.

He is survived by two daughters, Roberta K. Kauffman of Chambersburg and Bonnie L. Divelbiss of Fayetteville, Pa.; one son, Gary R. McClure of Hagerstown; three sisters, Lurene Gearhart, Shirley Rotz and Patricia Baer, all of Chambersburg; one brother, Frederick McClure of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Terza Ellen Kegerries.

Services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. K. Hull Byers will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
