Josephine M.H. Armbrester

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Josephine May Hite Armbrester, 76, of Falling Waters, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Jan. 17, 1921, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Allen L. and Edna Garrett Hite.

She was a 1938 graduate of Martinsburg High School, Martinsburg, W.Va. She also was a graduate of Martinsburg Business College.

She taught classes for several years for the Berkeley County Adult Education Program. She formerly was manager of American Store in Martinsburg.

She was a member of Hedgesville United Methodist Church; Together Sunday School Class; and United Methodist Women.

She was a life member and former regional officer of West Virginia State PTA; was well-known for cake decorating and candy making; was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels; volunteered as poll clerk during elections; and was a former member Friendship Quilters Guild.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charles W. Armbrester; three daughters, Barbara Noll and Linda Snyder, both of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Donna Watkins of Millsboro, Del.; one son, Thomas Armbrester of Hedgesville; three sisters, Dorothy Michael Young of Clifton, N.J., Jean Leget of Beltsville, Md., and Nancy Coleman of Norfolk, Va.; three brothers, Marvin F. Hite of Martinsburg, Charles C. Hite of Taylors, S.C., and Philip W. Hite of Lynchburg, Va.; nine grandchildren; one uncle; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Armbrester; and three brothers, Allen R. Hite, Richard L. Hite and Bernard N. Hite.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Terri S. Cofiell and the Rev. John E. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Falling Waters Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Spring Mills, W.Va.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hedgesville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 35, Hedgesville, W.Va. 25427.

Rita L. Saunders

FRANKLIN, W.Va. - Rita Lori Saunders, 35, of Franklin, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Oct. 17, 1961, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harvie and Goldie Nunley Burress.

She was formerly employed by Peoples Choice Answering Service as an operator in Harrisonburg, Va.

She is survived by one son, Jonathan Burress, at home; one sister, Eva Keesecker of Franklin; and five brothers, Thomas Burress of Severna Park, Md., Danny Burress and Wayne Burress, both of Reno, Nev., James Burress of Clearbrook, Va., and her twin, Randy Burress of Inwood, W.Va.;

Memorial services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Burial will be private.

Gregory E. Mitlacher

RAWLINS, Wyo. - Gregory Ernest Mitlacher, 29, of Rawlins, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997, in Wyoming.

Born March 29, 1968, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Mary Jo Stark of Frederick, Md., and the late Hans Wolfgang Mitlacher.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Laurie Paul Mitlacher; one sister, Renee Knoblock of Hagerstown; one brother, John Mitlacher of Frederick; and stepfather, Harry Doye of Frederick.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice; or to the Naval-Marine Corps Relief Society, 801 N. Randolph St., Suite 1228, Arlington, Va. 22203-1978.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Emma F.F. Gaver

BOONSBORO - Emma Frances Ford Gaver, 82, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home, and formerly of 107 S. Main St., who died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, also is survived by one sister, Rachel E. Smith of Boonsboro, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Ford Jr.

Junior T. Tosten

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Junior Theodore Tosten, 72, a resident of Piney Mountain, and formerly of 9 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa., died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at the home.

Born Oct. 25, 1924, in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Wilbur T. and Annie Elizabeth Cordell Tosten.

He attended Greencastle schools.

He was employed as a machine operator by M.P. Moller Organ Co. in Hagerstown for 36 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of Greencastle Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Miller Tosten, whom he married on July 10, 1969; two stepdaughters, Donna F. Runshaw and Deborah L. Carty, both of Greencastle; one stepson, Randy J. Runshaw of Greencastle; seven stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. Edward Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Greencastle Baptist Church Building Fund, 2377 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Lucy M. Church

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lucy M. Church, 48, of Route 5, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va.

Born May 21, 1949, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ralph F. and Rosie Peacher Johnston.

She is survived by one daughter, Dawne M. Knipple of Martinsburg; one son, William H. Church Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three sisters, Louise Peterson of Farmdale, Ohio, Carolyn Marsh of Warren, Ohio, and Vicki Robinson of Charles Town; two grandchildren; and her fiance, James William Kircher.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Gospel Assembly of God Church, W.Va. 9, Charles Town. The Rev. Raymond Jones will officiate. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Anna M. Michell

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Anna Mae Michell, 70, of Shenandoah Junction, and formerly of Silver Spring, Md., Deltona, Fla., and Shepherdstown, W.Va., died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, at her home.

Born Sept. 14, 1926, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late James T. and Anna Byus Wilson.

She enjoyed cooking and traveling.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Earl L. Michell; one daughter, Cheryl Guerrero of Shenandoah Junction; one son, Brandon Michell of Harrodsburg, Ky.; one sister, Nancy Eastlake of Springfield, Mo.; and three granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Hall; and one brother, Thomas Wilson.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. R. Shawn Edwards will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Panhandle Home Health, 1161-2 Winchester Ave., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Kathleen M.M. Wingert

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Kathleen M. McCleary Wingert, 86, a resident of Penn Hall, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997, at the nursing center.

Born Sept. 8, 1910, in Five Forks, Quincy Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Franklin P. and Molly Weicht McCleary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Libert H. Wingert.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and of the former Shippensburg State Teachers College, Shippensburg, Pa.

She was an elementary school teacher in Prince George's County, Md., for many years, retiring in 1979.

She had been a member of First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Joan Mull of Millersville, Pa., and Nancy Green of Crownsville, Md.; two sons, Jerry L. Wingert of Bowie, Md., and Thomas F. Wingert of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; one sister, Florine McCleary of Chambersburg; one brother, James F. McCleary of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Ray M. Geigley will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Orville J. Monn

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Orville J. Monn, 81, of 146 Briar Ridge Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born July 8, 1916, in Quincy, Pa., he was the son of the late Emanuel Clayton and Catherine Mae Baker Monn.

He was a 1934 graduate of Quincy High School and a 1938 graduate of Waynesboro Business School.

He earlier worked at Mont Alto State Forestry Nursery as an office clerk and at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro. In 1947, he took over the insurance agency of Benjamin Baker and operated it as the Quincy Insurance Agency. From 1952 to 1976, he was employed by the Waynesboro Post Office as a city letter carrier and later as a rural mail carrier, retiring after 24 years.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1942 to 1945 in the Army Air Transport Service in the South Pacific area, on the islands of Saipan and Guam.

From 1966 to 1970, he was a notary public for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1975, he was sewage enforcement officer for Quincy and Montgomery townships. From 1983 to 1989, he was Quincy Township assessor. From 1988 to 1994, he was an emergency medical technician with the Mont Alto Ambulance Squad and was recognized as the oldest EMT in the state of Pennsylvania.

He received the Achievement Award in 1987; Top Ambulance Responder Award for Mont Alto in 1991 and 1992; and Deputy Chiefs Ambulance Award in 1994.

He was a member of the Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro.

He was a member of Letter Carriers Association and William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro.

He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Doyle Monn, whom he married on Feb. 3, 1942; one son, Randolph Clayton "Randy" Monn of Waynesboro; two brothers, Carl Monn and Ralph Monn, both of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one stepbrother, Harold Bakner.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Jaye Bartle will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Rachel G. Barnett

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Rachel G. Barnett, 93, of Kearneysville, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at her home.

Born Feb. 21, 1904, in Fort Wayne, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Walter W. and Lettie Van Alstine Barnett.

She was a 1933 graduate of Indiana University.

A veteran of the Women's Army Corps, she served from 1942 to 1947.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Elizabeth Partridge

Elizabeth Partridge, 98, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 12, 1899, in England, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Sarah Bradshaw Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Partridge.

She was a needlecraft teacher at Hagerstown Junior College for 40 years and was a Continuing Education teacher.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Appalachian Trail Club and R.S.V.P. She was a volunteer with the Senior Citizens, Alexander House and was active in senior citizens groups.

She is survived by one sister, Winifred Khunel of London; and four nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Chinnery; and one brother, William Roberts.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Victor Zuck will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Junior College, 11400 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to the charity one's of choice.
