Dolores L. George

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Dolores L. "Pete" George, 72, of 1527 Apple Way, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa., after an extended illness.

Born June 24, 1925, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Mary Brown Doerner.

She was a 1939 graduate of Chambersburg High School and a 1943 graduate of Washington County School of Nursing.

She was a registered nurse all her life, beginning her career in children's ward of Chambersburg Hospital in 1943. She was later employed by Waynesboro Hospital, Caledonia Manor, where she was director of nursing; and ManorCare, where she was assistant director of nursing. She retired in 1993.

She was a member of Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, Chambersburg.

She was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Benjamin R. George II; two daughters, Ann Statler and Sally M. George, both of Chambersburg; four sons, Benjamin R. George III and Peter L. George, both of Chambersburg, John H. George of Orrstown, Pa., and Paul A. George of St. Thomas; one sister, Nancy Gonder of Chambersburg; one brother, Joseph Doerner of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, 221 N. Main St., Chambersburg. the Rev. William H. Harter and the Rev. Linda B. Harter will officiate. Burial will be in Falling Spring Graveyard.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Falling Spring Church Building Fund, 221 N. Main St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg.

Blake E. Martin

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Blake E. Martin, 68, of 2999 Letterkenny Road, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.

Born Jan. 14, 1929, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Blake E. and Edna M. Senseny Martin.

He was a 1947 graduate of Chambersburg High School; a 1954 graduate of Shippensburg State College, Shippensburg, Pa.; and a 1957 graduate of Dickenson Law School.

He was employed by law office of J. Stewart Glen, later moving to office of Crider, Hankins and Martin. He served as public defender in Franklin County, Pa., for 27 years, retiring in 1993. Following retirement, he was associated with the law office of David G. Cleaver.

He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he had been a former Sunday school teacher.

He was a member of Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Alliance Club; Pennsylvania Bar Association; American Heart Association; SAR; and served as president of Public Defender's Association, 1979 to 1982; Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; Deitrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion, St. Thomas, Pa.; and BPOE 600 Elks.

He was recipient of first Gideon Award, 1994; and received Citizen of the Year Award in 1993 from BPOE 600 Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Rice Martin; one sister, Nancy L. Martin of Chambersburg; and a foster brother, C. Paul Gladfelter of Chambersburg.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Ray L. Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

John K. Robbins

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - John K. Robbins, 94, a guest of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of Mount Vernon Terrace, Waynesboro, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, in the nursing home after an extended illness.

Born Jan. 26, 1903, in Millville, N.J., he was the son of the late Randolph and Beulah Barberow Robbins.

He lived his early life in the Philadelphia area.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara J. Werner Robbins, whom he married in 1931.

He worked as a carpenter in Philadelphia area. He was later employed by Samuel Dixon State Hospital, presently the South Mountain Restoration Center, as cooperative store manager. He retired in 1964 after 23 years of service.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1526, Gettysburg, Pa.

He is survived by one daughter, Ignatius Namiotko of St. Augustine, Fla.

He was preceded in death by one grandson.

Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, Pa. The Rev. C. Albert Guyer will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Mary E.B. Weakley

INDIANAPOLIS - Mary Eileen Burke Weakley, of Indianapolis, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at St. Vincent's Hospice, Indianapolis.

Born in Benton City, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mary Simmons Burke.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Thomas Russell Weakley.

While much of her life was in Chicago, she was a resident of Indianapolis for more than 30 years.

She was a homemaker.

She was an active volunteer of Oasis of Glendale.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Weakley of Indianapolis and William R. Weakley of Hagerstown; and one grandson, Thomas Ryan Weakley.

Services and Mass will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Indianapolis. Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Indianapolis.

A viewing will be Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Home, Broad Ripple branch, Indianapolis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be sent to St. Matthews Catholic Church, 4100 E. 56th St., Indianapolis, Ind. 46220; or St. Vincent's Hospice, P.O. Box 40970, Indianapolis, Ind. 46209-4040.

Carl E. Carbaugh

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Carl E. Carbaugh, 78, of 317 E. Market St., died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.

Born Feb. 5, 1919, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of the late Claude M. and Lavina A. Keyser Carbaugh.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Souders Carbaugh, who died in 1981.

He retired in 1981 from Letterkenny Army Depot as equipment operator.

He was a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church.

He was a life member of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co., McConnellsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline LaRue Wible Carbaugh; one son, Ricahrd Carbaugh of McConnellsburg; two sisters, Ida Lynch of Grayling, Mich., and Dorothy Smith of McConnellsburg; one brother, Stanley Hann of Waterford, Conn.; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Independent Baptist Church. The Rev. David Carroll and the Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

A viewing will be Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be sent to McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co., Maple St., McConnellsburg, Pa. 17233.

Jeffery A. Perrott

Jeffery Allen Perrott, 41, of 9 E. Lee St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at his home.

Born March 5, 1956, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Louis and Clare Lois Shatzer Perrott Sr.

He was previously employed by Baer Brothers for three years; and Triple J Packing. He was a roofer by trade.

He is survived by his fiancee, Anita Line of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Charlotte Marie Line of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Gregory Mills and Perry Line III, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Debra Leisinger of Hagerstown; and one brother, John L. Perrott Jr. of Hagerstown.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ernest Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Richard E. Gaver

SMITHSBURG - Richard E. Gaver, 78, of Bradbury Avenue, who died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home, is survived by his wife, Ruth B. Sherwood Gaver.

Nicholas T. Lewis

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Nicholas Todd Lewis, 2 months old, of Gold Miller Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at Children's Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Born June 17, 1997, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Todd R. and Mary Beth Morgan Lewis of Bunker Hill.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Russell and Nancy Morgan of Inwood, W.Va.; and his paternal grandparents, Helen C. Lewis of Bunker Hill and the late James A. Lewis.

Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. John E. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests memorial contributions be sent to Inwood United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 577, Inwood, W.Va. 25428.

Helen S. Shutt

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Helen Sylvia Shutt, 82, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at her home in the Greenwood section of Morgan County while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born Feb. 5, 1915, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Sabino and Philomena Zottola Stampo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Miles Shutt, who died July 12, 1983.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Berkeley Springs.

She is survived by one daughter, Helen Carol Painter of Berkeley Springs; two sons, James R. Shutt of Stephens City, Va., and Paul T. Shutt of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Virginia Barone of Berkeley Springs; one stepsister, Mary Ziccardi of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ambrose Stampo, David Stampo, Alex Stampo and Paul Stampo.

Memorial services will be Monday at 7 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Route 522 South, Berkeley Springs. Rickey Wells will officiate. Burial will be Monday at 4 p.m. in Greenwood United Methodist Church Cemetery, Unger, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The funeral home will be open today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Philip P. Darby

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Philip P. Darby, 80, of Berkeley Springs, formerly of Adelphi, Md., died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.

Born Feb. 15, 1917, in Highlands, N.J., he was the son of the late Philip Percy and Alice Darby.

He was employed as engineering inspector by the District of Columbia following his military career.

He served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 6, 1941, until his retirement July 21, 1960.

He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Bladensburg, Md.

He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60, Berkeley Springs and Fleet Reserve Association, Alexandria, Va.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gladys Thelma Darby at home; one son, Gerald Philip Darby of Medina, Ohio; and one granddaughter, Samantha Jayne Darby of Medina.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 53rd Street and Annapolis Road, Bladensburg. The Rev. Edward C. Raffetto will officiate. Burial with military graveside honors will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Md.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Humane Society of Morgan County, c/o Dona Wilcox, Route 3, Box 128C, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.
