Margaret A. Dunlop

RANSON, W.Va. - Margaret Adelaide Dunlop, 79, of Ranson, formerly of The Spruces, Summit Point, W.Va., died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, in Shenandoah Nursing Home, Ranson.

She was the last of her immediate family.

Born July 14, 1918, in Barrington, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Alexander Nelson Dunlop and Anna Blumenstiel Dunlop.

She retired in 1986 from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va. She was previously employed by Victor Products, Hagerstown; and Funkhouser Industries, Ranson.

She was of the Episcopal faith.

She is survived by a very close friend, Mrs. H. Lee Bowers of Charles Town, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Alexander F. Dunlop.

Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Middleway Masonic Cemetery, Middleway, W.Va. The Rev. John Alfriend will officiate. Burial will be in Middleway Masonic Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County, P.O. Box 147, Charles Town, W.Va. 25414.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.

Robert F. Mick

ROANOKE, Va. - Robert F. Mick, 77, of Roanoke, and formerly of Sharpsburg and Libertytown, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.

He was a retired special agent with the Federal Highway Administration after 28 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 7th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees).

He was a member of VFW Post 1264.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Joy Mick, at home; four daughters, Frances Yost and Eleanor Brannan, both of Frederick, Md., Roberta Barrett of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Rachel Collins of Roanoke; one sister, Juanita Snyder of Woodsboro, Md.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert F. Mick Jr.

Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to any branch of the Leukemia Foundation.

Arrangements are by Oakey's Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Joy L. Montgomery

PORTLAND, Ore. - Joy L. Montgomery, 49, of Portland, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at a local hospital.

Born Nov. 20, 1947, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Lucille Lorraine Delauter Wetzel of Hagerstown and the late Clyde Hubert Wetzel.

She was a 1965 graduate of Mount Aetna Academy. She continued her education at Washington Sanitarium and Hospital School of Practical Nursing.

She was employed as an LPN for 30 years, her last position at Adventist Rehab and Extended Care for five years. She was previously employed by Glisan Care Center and Mt. St. Joseph Nursing Home for 15 years.

She served as master guide and counselor in SDA Pathfinders.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, John Montgomery of Portland, whom she married Jan. 14, 1968; two daughters, Julia Montgomery of College Place, Wash., and Jennifer Montgomery of Portland; two sisters, Lorraine P. Gorman and Patricia L. Moreland, both of Hagerstown; and two brothers, Clyde Donald Wetzel and Mark G. Dawson, both of Hagerstown.

Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Mt. Tabor Seventh-day Adventist Church. Private burial was in Willamette National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to AREC, c/o the Joy Fund, 6040 S.E. Belmont, Portland, Ore. 97215.

The family requests that eligible donors register with a bone marrow donor program and donate blood.

Kelly L. Seiders

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Kelly Lynn Seiders, 23, of RD 2, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, in an automobile accident in Exton, Pa., while on his way to work.

Born Aug. 11, 1974, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of Roy L. Seiders of Philadelphia and Sharon Seiders of RD 2, McConnellsburg.

He attended Allegany Community College, Cumberland, Md., for two years.

He was employed by RONCA Construction, Allentown, Pa.

He played on the H.J. Culler softball team.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepfather, James L. DeShong Jr. of McConnellsburg; his fiancee, Wendy Everetts of McConnellsburg; one sister, Katrina Marshalleck of Fort Lewis, Wash.; one niece; and his grandparents, Jim and Eunice Hawbaker of McConnellsburg.

He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Doris Hawbaker.

There will be no viewing.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg. The Rev. Donald Bard and the Rev. Loy Garber will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., Harrisonville, Pa.

Edwin L. Stoops

ZULLINGER, Pa. - Edwin L. Stoops, 71, of 11858 Grace St., died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, at Harrisburg General Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa., after an extended illness.

Born Jan. 19, 1926, in the Altenwald area of Quincy Township, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of Edna B. West Stoops of Waynesboro, Pa., and the late Merle E. Stoops.

He attended Quincy High School.

He was employed by Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, Pa., as office custodian. He retired in May, 1991, after 18 years of service. He was previously employed by Waynesboro Knitting Mill, holding various positions, for 27 years.

He served one year in 1-W service as conscientious objector in Luray, Va., and Powellville, Md.

He was a member of Antrim Brethren in Christ Church, Kauffman Station, Pa. He was a former member of Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, deacon for 21 years, church treasurer for 10 years and Sunday school teacher. He also served on the church board for 10 years in shut-in ministry.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Emma Grace Thrush Stoops, whom he married Sept. 27, 1947; one daughter, Joyce M. Rogers of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Ray D. Stoops of Greencastle, Pa.; one sister, Esther Martin of Hagerstown; four granddaughters; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Stoops.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Antrim Brethren Christ Church, 24 Kauffman Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Steven Munger, the Rev. Ky Search and Bishop Frank Kipe will officiate. Burial will be in Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery, Scotland, Pa.

Jennifer S. Hoffman

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jennifer Saberina Hoffman, 18, of 517 Brookdale Ave., and formerly of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

Born May 11, 1979, in Ranson, W.Va., she was the daughter of Brian S. Hoffman and Constance Hill Hoffman of Martinsburg.

She was a 1997 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a former student of Harpers Ferry Junior High School.

She was employed part-time by Cindy's Cinnamon Rolls, Martinsburg Mall.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was a member of the Martinsburg High School band color guard.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Charles and Carol Hill of Bessemer, Ala.; a paternal grandfather, Ronald K. Hoffman of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one sister, Valerie R. Franklin of Martinsburg; one niece; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by a maternal grandmother, Janis M. Tomlin; a paternal grandmother, Janet L. Hoffman; and one paternal great-grandfather, the Rev. Arnold Hoffman.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Van Marsceau will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard T. Ashley

WILLIAMSPORT - Richard T. Ashley, 89, of Milestone Garden Apartments, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 16, 1908, in St. Johnsville, N.Y., he was the son of the late Calvin Lewis and Minnie House Ashley Sr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Collins Ashley, who died in 1990.

An Army veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport.

He was a member of AARP and Potomac Post 202 American Legion, Williamsport.

He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Battista of Waterford, Conn.; two sons, Bill Ashley of Chantilly, Va., and Robert H. Ashley of Owensboro, Ky.; one brother, Calvin L. Ashley Jr. of Little Falls, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Ashley Jr.; one sister, Alice Francoeur; and two brothers, Robert D. Ashley and Joseph M. Ashley.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Friends may call at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral home will be open today after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Rehoboth United Methodist Church Building Fund, 30 E. Salisbury St., Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Kathleen D. Hetzel

BOONSBORO - Kathleen Delores Hetzel, 65, of 705 Orchard Manor Drive, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at the home of her daughter at 19215 Porterstown Road, Keedysville.

Born Dec. 22, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Edward McComas and Elsie M. Myers Knight.

She was a retired employee of E.J. Fennel Co., Hagerstown.

She was a member of Christ Fellowship Church, Hagerstown.

She was a member of AARP and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Leo Hetzel of Hagerstown; one daughter, Marilee Combs of Keedysville; one son, Rand L. Knight of Boonsboro; one sister, Peggy Myers of Sharpsburg; five brothers, Edward M. Knight Jr. of Williamsport, Morris H. Knight of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Terry E. Knight and Rooney L. Knight, both of Sharpsburg and Vincent A. Knight of Keedysville; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Arnold F. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Agnes L. Moore

Agnes Lorraine "Aggie" Moore, 67, of 522 W. Church St., Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 5, 1930 at Mt. Lena, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Edward and Rosey May Smith Shank.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Floyd Moore, who died in 1988.

She had retired after 45 years as a waitress with Prospect Diner, Potomac Diner, Jim's Always and AMVETS Post 10, all in Hagerstown, and Williamsport Redmen Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Debra Sue Shrader of Hagerstown and Lisa Ann Gleason of Arlington, Va.; two sons, Howard E. Moore and Craig A. Moore, both of Hagerstown; three sisters, Hazel I. Smith of Boonsboro, Frances L. Seibert of Hagerstown and Esther J. Martin of Zullinger, Pa.; two brothers, Omer W. Shank of Hagerstown and Russell E. Shank of Maugansville; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Shank and Raymond Shank.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Wendell G. McClellan will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
