Grace V. Fleming

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. - Grace Viola Fleming, 93, of Rockledge, formerly of Keedysville, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, in Florida.

Born Sept. 7, 1903, in Brucetown, Va., she was a daughter of the late George and Georgette Rowland Athey.

She was a graduate of Towson Normal School.

She began her career as a teacher and retired as social service director for Salvation Army, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Keedysville.

She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Bentz of Hagerstown; four sons, Charles Fleming of Richmond, Va., Robert Fleming of Albuquerque, N.M., John Fleming of Rockledge and Lynn Fleming of Cockeysville, Md.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by one son, James Fleming; two sisters, Susan Athey and Pearl Reel; and two brothers, Boyd Athey and Herbert Athey.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike Boonsboro. The Rev. Jack Fleming, her grandson, will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville.

There will be no viewing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to services.

Ellen F. Kauffman

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ellen F. Forsythe Kauffman, 86, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa., and formerly of 218 Harrison Ave., died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997, at the home after an extended illness.

Born June 18, 1911, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Anna Shives Forsythe.

She was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph B. Kauffman, whom she married March 12, 1927.

She spent her early life in Mercersburg.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren and Fidelis Sunday School Class.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Louise Kauffman of Waynesboro and Nancy Kauffman Hall of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and one grandson, Rudolph John Hall.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred E. Forsythe.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Brent K. Driver will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 12:45 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268; or Benevolent Care Fund, Quincy United Methodist Home, P.O. Box 128, Quincy, Pa. 17247.

Harold L. Kelley

WILLIAMSPORT - Harold Lester Kelley, 82, of 16505 Virginia Ave., and formerly of Clear Spring, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Home, Williamsport.

Born Nov. 28, 1914, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late John Henry and Lethia Margaret Eichelberger Kelley.

He attended Clear Spring High School.

He was employed by the state of Maryland, retiring in 1976.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Clear Spring.

He was a member of Joseph C. Herbert Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring; and Cumberland Valley Volunteer Fireman's Association.

He is survived by one daughter, Beverly Richards of Hagerstown; one son, Harold Frank Kelley of Riverside, Ohio; one sister, Jean Jennings of Locust Grove, Va.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Clingan; and two brothers, Alvin Kelley and Earl Kelley.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Andy Carr will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Samuel B. Mellott

NEEDMORE, Pa. - The Rev. Samuel B. Mellott, 83, of Route 1, Box 205, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born June 13, 1914, in Needmore, he was the son of the late Richard and Elizabeth Wink Mellott.

He was employed by D.L. Martin as machinist, retiring in 1979. He was previously employed by Southern Fulton School District as school bus driver and minister since 1946.

He was called by Selective Service into CPS Service for 13 months, Kane, Pa., and three years at Eastern Shore State Hospital, Cambridge, Md.

He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren. He joined Church of the Brethren in 1927. He was called into the ministry in 1946. He was a Sunday school teacher for many years; a delegate to Church Conference many times; and helped organize Association of Fundamental Gospel Church, Webster Mills, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn A. Deshong, whom he married Nov. 22, 1943; one daughter, Anna L. Martin of St. Thomas, Pa.; one brother, Raymond Mellott of Stanford, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Garland; and two brothers, Floyd Mellott and Bruce Mellott.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Websters Mill Free Brethren Church. The Rev. Garnet Myers, the Rev. Roy Fahnestock and the Rev. Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

A viewing will be Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg.

Family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

O. Donald Cushwa

SPRING MILLS, W.Va. - O. Donald Cushwa, 73, of Spring Mills, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at his home.

Born Dec. 10, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Otho Howard and Pearl Donaldson Cushwa.

He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was a farmer his entire life.

He was a member of Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, where he served as dean and elder. He was granted the status of elder emeritus in 1996 by the congregation.

He was a member of Berkeley County Farm Bureau and United Commercial Travelers.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Foltz Cushwa at home; one daughter, Brenda Carper of Spring Mills; two sons, D. Wayne Cushwa and G. Mike Cushwa, both of Spring Mills; two sisters, Evelyn Kitchen of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Mildred Roberson of Martinsburg; two brothers, H. Kenneth Cushwa of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Harold Lee Cushwa of Martinsburg; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Mitchell L. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, Route 1, Box 138, Hedgesville, W.Va. 25427.

John H.E. Rohrback Sr.

FREDERICK, Md. - John Henry Eugene Rohrback Sr., 59, of 5526 Foxhall Court, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at his home.

Born Dec. 20, 1937, in Point of Rocks, Md., he was a son of the late Perry and Myrtle Rutherford Rohrback.

He was employed as a painter.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Smith of Frederick; two daughters Shirley Ann of Maryland and Debra of Virginia; four sons, John H.E. Rohrback Jr., Vic R. Rohrback and Russell B. Rohrback, all of Frederick and Scott W. Rohrback of Thurmont, Md.; one sister, Myrtle Houser of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sister, Esther Stream and Lydia Adams; and one brother, Russell Rohrback.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Gaye S. Smith and the Rev. L. Ross Kirk will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Point of Rocks.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

A. Ray Mellott

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - A. Ray Mellott, 67, of 7630 Cumberland Circle, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born May 25, 1930, in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late C. Henderson Mellott and Ruth Zimmerman Mellott.

He was self-employed as dairy farmer and operated Mellott Livestock, both in the St. Thomas area, for most of his life.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Rosenberry Mellott of Chambersburg; five sons, Gregory A. Mellott and Timothy R. Mellott, both of St. Thomas, Christopher M. Mellott and Thomas E. Mellott, both of Mercersburg and Randy S. Mellott of Fayetteville, Pa.; four sisters, Mae Secrist of Fayetteville, Olive Kershner of Chambersburg, T. June Mellott of Mercersburg and Doris Hartman of Taneytown, Md.; three brothers, Robert Mellott and H. Kenneth Mellott, both of Mercersburg and George Mellott of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters; and two brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Kevin Witter will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

A viewing will be held Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jean G. Selby

Jean Geraldine Selby, 57, of 11010 Decker Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 29, 1940, in Weston, W.Va., she was the daughter of Erma Brown Davis of Williamsport and the late Gerald E. Davis.

She was employed by Washington County Department of Human Resources for seven years; the Junction Bridge for 10 years; and Paramount Baptist Church for 12 years.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ.

She was a member of American Legion Post 202 Williamsport Auxiliary.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Earl F. Selby Jr.; two sons, Michael S. Selby of Hagerstown and Gregory E. Selby of Cape Charles, Va.; one sister, Dorothy L. Martin of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Franklin D. Davis and Aubrey Greg Davis.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson and the Rev. Cecil C. Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sharon F.H. Ehardt

HARMONY, Md. - Sharon Faye Hartsock Ehardt, 53, of Coxey Brown Road, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at her home.

Born Jan. 23, 1944, in Harmony, she was a daughter of the late Roscoe and Viola Ford Hartsock.

She retired in 1996 after 25 years with U.S. Department of Energy, Germantown, Md.

She was a member of Harmony Community Lutheran Church.

She was an active volunteer with Frederick County Humane Society.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Ehardt at home; one daughter, Tina Horner of Brunswick, Md.; one son, Tim Horner of Frederick; two brothers, Marvin Hartsock of Frederick and William Hartsock of Harmony; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Gerlie Ropp.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harmony Community Lutheran Church, Harmony. The Rev. Robert Blair Ruble will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Md.
