William H. Miller

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William H. Miller, 79, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Feb. 3, 1918, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas F. and Margaret Davis Miller.

He was a 1936 graduate of Shepherdstown High School, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

He retired from Fairchild Aircraft Co. after 30 years. He also retired from State of West Virginia I-81 Rest Areas.

He attended Independent Bible Church, Route 9, Berkeley County. He was a former member of Greensburg United Brethren Church.

He was one of the original founding members of Bedington Fire Department and a former member of Bedington Ruritan Club.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Corrine Hensley Miller; one daughter, Keitha L. LeMaster of Shepherdstown; one son, Thomas Carl Miller of Martinsburg; one sister, Iona Jane Kackley of Martinsburg; one granddaughter; two step-granddaughters; one step-grandson; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Mark Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Independent Bible Church, Route 6, Box 403, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Stephen D. Ruppenthal

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Stephen Dale Ruppenthal, 53, of Falling Waters, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born Aug. 13, 1944, in Martinsburg, he was the son of Ercel Buford Ruppenthal Jr. and Edith Iona McCoy Ruppenthal of Berkeley Springs.

He attended Berkeley Springs High School.

He owned and operated Stephen's Modern Homes, Falling Waters, since 1967.

He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sharon Lee Eversole Ruppenthal; three daughters, Starla J. Hart of Falling Waters, Cindy D. Gray of Springfield, Mo., and Robin R. Ruppenthal of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Lisa G. Mosier of Hancock; one stepson, Chad E. Davis of Hancock; one sister, Patricia Jo McKee of Hollywood, Md.; two brothers, Ercel B. Ruppenthal III of Inwood, W.Va., and Michael J. Ruppenthal of Smithsburg; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Alvin Kyle will officiate. Burial will be in Snyder's Bible Church Cemetery, Morgan County, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Lloyd E. Richards

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Lloyd Eugene Richards, 86, of Deerfield Beach, and formerly of Potomac Towers, Hagerstown, who died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, is survived by a sister, Mary Moore of Hagerstown.

Phillip E. Frye

RANSON, W.Va. - Phillip Eugene Frye, 60, of 131 E. 3rd Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson.

Born Dec. 1, 1936, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Roy Norman and Pearl Shackelford Frye.

He was a retired farmer and was a truck driver for Southern States, Ranson.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by two sons, Donald Frye and William "Skip" Frye, both of Winchester, Va.; three sisters, Annabelle F. Fisher of Martinsburg, W.Va., Phyllis V. Frye of Pasadena, Md., and Dorothy L. Burgess of Linthicum, Md.; two brothers, Edward L. Frye of Halltown, W.Va., and Albert P. Frye of Kearneysville, W.Va.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie L. Frye; two sons, Phillip E. Frye Jr. and Marvin T. Frye; one sister, Mary E. Frye; and two brothers, John W. Frye and Roy N. Frye Jr.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Elva M.H. Brown

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Elva Mae Hinkle Brown, 82, a resident of Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Oldtown, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.

Born Oct. 18, 1914, in Oldtown, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Bessie Mae Hartley Hinkle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard C. Brown, in 1980.

She was a homemaker.

She was a charter member of Oldtown Bethel Assembly of God Church, Oldtown.

She is survived by three sons, Joe M. Brown of Oldtown and the Rev. James R. Brown and Roger L. Brown, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Frances Silber of Oldtown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Donald L. Brown; and two brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Oldtown Bethel Assembly of God Church, Oldtown. The Rev. Richard E. Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Oldtown Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to the services on Sunday.

Arrangements are Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland.

Adam F. Laupert

WILLIAMSPORT - Adam Francis Laupert, 99, of Williamsport, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 10, 1898, in Somerset, Pa., he was the son of the late Henry and Katherine Irene Laupert.

He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was a minister for more than 56 years in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

He conducted home Bible studies as part of voluntary ministry and part of worldwide work of Jehovah's Witnesses.

He is survived by one son, Francis Adam Laupert of Hagerstown; one sister, Martha Laupert Halbritter of Westernport, Md.; three grandchildren, Forrest Larry Laupert of Brooklyn, N.Y., Sherry Ann Dunkin of Smithsburg and Frances Laupert of North Miami, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 30 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown. Reginald Mitchel will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Worldwide Bible Education Program, c/o Jehovah's Witness, 30 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Sarah K. Schlotterbeck

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Sarah Kathryn Schlotterbeck, 95, of Prescott, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, in Prescott.

Born Jan. 13, 1902, in State Line, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Frank and Martha J. Trovinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Schlotterbeck, in April, 1995.

She was a member of Prescott Free Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Anna Anderson of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Frances Keefauver of Hagerstown; one son, Leon Schlotterbeck of Prescott; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, June Lefever.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Memory Chapel Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave., Prescott. The Rev. Raymond Roller will officiate. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery, Prescott.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the mortuary.

Claire B. Pound

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Claire B. Pound, 88, a resident of Menno Haven, and formerly of 520 D Menno Village, Chambersburg, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at Menno Haven.

Born Sept. 20, 1908, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Fannie M. Martin Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Oswald Pound, on March 2, 1990.

She was a 1926 graduate of Chambersburg High School, Chambersburg.

She was employed by Hartzok Insurance Agency, Chambersburg, for more than 30 years.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg, where she had been a member of the Women's Guild.

She was a member of Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary; Martha Custis Chapter 342 Order of Eastern Star, Chambersburg; AARP Franklin County Chapter 2287, Chambersburg; and was an organist at the former St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Rebok of Chambersburg; one son, Karl E. Pound of Fayetteville, Pa.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. The Rev. Stephen W. Hoffman and the Rev. Jeffrey I. Roth will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Music Fund, St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or to Menno Haven, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Jane E. Rudisill

Jane Elizabeth Rudisill, 81, a resident of Western Maryland Hospital Center, Hagerstown, and formerly of 219 James St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Frances I. Criswell

BOONSBORO - Frances Irene Biggy Criswell, 77, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home, and formerly of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 16, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John Snively and Carrie Baker Criswell.

She had worked at several places, including 13 years at Pony Express.

She was a 1938 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She attended Federal Schools and Columbia College.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church; Fidelity Sunday School Class; was a former member of United Methodist Women; and a teacher of Sunday school for several years.

She was a former member of Potomac Towers Senior citizens Club Art Class and Tenant's Association, for which she was secretary for nine years; and AARP.

She is survived by three sisters, Helen Fitz of Waynesboro, Pa., Jeannette Holmes of Boonsboro and Louise Keesecker of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison and the Rev. Ann V. Atkins will officiate. Burial will be in Benevola Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.
