Nellie I.L. Gaver
QUINCY, Pa. - Nellie Irene Lewis Gaver, 87, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 14551 Pennersville Road, Cascade, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, at the nursing home.
She was a 1925 graduate of Frederick County School No. 3, and then graduated from Smithsburg High School.
Her husband, Hubert Lee Gaver, died in 1972. They were married in December 1927.
She was employed by the federal government at Fort Ritchie and Site R in the 1970s.
She was a member of Germantown Bethel Church of God in Lantz, Md., where she taught Sunday school for a number of years and played the piano for Sunday school and church.
She is survived by one daughter, Lucille E. Gaver Youngs of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Ruth "Pete" Toms of Foxville, Md.; two grandchildren, John E. Youngs and Yolonda Youngs; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hattie Lewis and Maude Smith.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Germantown Bethel Church of God, 16924 Raven Rock Road, Cascade. Pastor Paul Tobias will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Matthew F. Cool
HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. - Matthew Francis Cool, 21, of 1291 Middletown Road, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at Allegheny Valley School Hummelstown Campus in Hummelstown, formerly known as a Children's Care Center.
Born July 4, 1976, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Terry Francis Cool Sr. of State Line, Pa., and Lois Denise Dieterich Herchenrother of Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Rhonda Cool of State Line, Pa. and his stepfather, Brian H. Herchenrother of Hagerstown; one sister, Melissa C. Cool of State Line, Pa.; one brother, Terry F. Cool Jr.; maternal grandparents, G. Fred and Mildred M. Dieterich of Hagerstown; and paternal grandmother, Elva J. Cool of Hagerstown.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Christopher J. Chantelau will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery
in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard T. Maconaughey
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Richard Todd Maconaughey, 38, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at his home.
Born June 15, 1959, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of Thomas W. and Wilda M. Barker Maconaughey of Berkeley Springs.
He worked for the Morgan County Board of Education in the maintenance department.
He was a member of the West Virginia Service Personnel Association, and was voted the Morgan County Service Personnel Employee of the Year for the 1996-97 school year.
He was a member of Berkeley Springs Church of Christ.
He was a hunter and outdoorsman.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 16 years, Janet S. Messner Maconaughey; two daughters, Erica L. Maconaughey and Jennifer L. Maconaughey, both of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Virginia E. Wilson of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Thomas L. Maconaughey of Berkeley Springs; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Berkeley Springs Church of Christ, 509 S. Green St., Berkeley Springs. Paul Cantrell, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, today from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday for the convenience of friends.

Wayne W. Winning
Wayne W. Winning, 74, of E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born May 13, 1923, in Beaver Dam, Wis., he was the son of the late Richard and Helen Hager Winning.
A U.S. Army Air Force veteran, he served during World War II.
He was a member of the VFW in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his daughter, Sally Hoch of Amisville, Va.; two sons, Bruce Winning of Culpeper, Va., and Richard Winning of Hampton, Va.; three sisters, Sharon Gossard of Damascus, Md., Ruth Seis of Canon City, Colo., and Betty Ann French of Fort Madison, Iowa; one brother, Robert Winning of Wheaton, Md.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Winning.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Burial will be in Culpeper National Cemetery
at the convenience of the family.
Cecyl M. Starliper
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Cecyl M. Starliper, 78, of 6963 Charlestown Road, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born April 27, 1919, in Little Cove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William A. and Margaret Cook Keefer.
Her husband, Cleatus M. Starliper, died June 26.
She assisted her husband for 50 years in the operation of the family farm and orchard. She also worked in the cafeteria of Tuscarora School District and later in the infirmary of Mercersburg Academy.
She was a member of Clayton Memorial Church of God in Mercersburg and the Sanctuary Sunday School Class.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy L. Miller and Shirley A. Winters, both of Mercersburg; one son, Darold M. Starliper of Mercersburg; two brothers, William C. Keefer and Merle B. Keefer, both of Mercersburg; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Robinson.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God. The Rev. Kelly Shope and the Rev. Floyd E. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery
in Mercersburg.
A viewing will be held at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Charles E. Miles
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Charles Edward Miles, 73, of Shepherdstown, died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997, at his home.
Born March 15, 1924, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Elizabeth Valkema Miles.
His wife, Juanita Mick Miles, preceded him in death.
He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of lieutenant commander after 25 years of service.
He is survived by one stepdaughter, Kathy Myers of Linthicum, Md.; one stepson, David Sheets of Laurel, Md.; and one stepgrandchild, Dana Kirby.
Services and burial will be private.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Jesse M Tyson Jr.
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Jesse M. Tyson Jr., 71, of Pensacola, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at his home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Fredericksburg, Va.
He retired after 26 years of service in the U.S. Army. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War.
He owned and operated Tyson's Uniques at the 9th Avenue Antique Mall since 1990.
He and his family lived in Hagerstown for 14 years, where he managed Top of the Mall Antiques and Top of the Mall Bingo.
He was a member of Summit Park United Methodist Church.
He was a past member of East Hill Lodge 310, a member of the 102nd Engineer Co. Association, and a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Kessel Tyson; two daughters, Sharon Keegan and Terry Knauff; two sons, Wayne Tyson and Stephen Tyson; one sister, Margaret Van Auken of Fredericksburg; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, at Summit Park United Methodist Church. John K. Dickinson officiated.
Masonic services were held at Bayview Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis.
Arrangements were by Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel in Pensacola.
Anna C. Breckbill
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Anna Cleo Breckbill, 85, of Franklin County Nursing Home, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at the nursing home in Guilford Township, Pa.
Born Dec. 3, 1911, in Fayetteville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Iva C. Shepherd Mitchell.
Her husband, Ralph O. Breckbill, preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by four sisters, Lavina Keefer, Beulah Wilson and Sue Sprenger, all of Chambersburg, and Grace Phinicie of Waynesboro, Pa.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Norland Cemetery
in Chambersburg. The Rev. Stuart Troutman will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.

Maria K. Gould
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Maria K. Gould, 89, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Avon, Conn., died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997.
Born March 31, 1908, in Cambridge, Mass., she was the daughter of the late William and Mabel Delahanty Keliher.
Her husband, Maxwell Gould, preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Avon.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann J. Grasham of Hagerstown; two sons, Peter J. Rutherford of Blandford, Mass., and Mark A. Rutherford of Stuttgart, Germany; one sister, Virginia Brunt of Hollywood, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Hedgesville, W.Va., with the Rev. William J. Nolte Jr. as celebrant. Burial will be private.

Hattie E. Lewis
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hattie E. Lewis, 85, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Jan. 2, 1912, in Bunker Hill, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John H. and Mary E. Shaffer Swartz.
Her husband, Leonard Larkin Lewis, preceded her in death.
She was a 1931 graduate of Bunker Hill High School.
She was employed by Interwoven Stocking Co. for 16 years and by C.H. Musselman Co. cafeteria for 32 years.
She was a member of Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church, the choir, a teacher of the kindergarten class for a number of years, and was past president of the Women of the Church.
She was a member, past senior counselor and chairman of Special Education Children of United Commercial Travelers Ladies Auxiliary No. 223, and a member of AARP.
She is survived by two nieces, Doris T. Roberts of Bunker Hill and Winona S. Lewis of Arden, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian S. Tabb; and one brother, Roy Swartz.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. John E. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
