Jeffery S. Drennen Jr.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Jeffery Scott Drennen Jr., infant son of Jeffery Scott Drennen Sr. and Wendy C. Gaither of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Amanda Drennen, and one brother, William Drennen, both of Virginia; grandparents, Dean and Darlene Carpenter, John and Carolyn Gaither, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Donald and Patricia Wyatt of Virginia.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home Inc., 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.

Earl H. Stephens

BALTIMORE - Earl H. Stephens, 84, of Baltimore, died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at Church Hospital, Baltimore.

Born April 24, 1913, in Montgomery County, Md., he was the son of the late Ayler Gardner and Agnes May Crampton Stephens.

He was retired from Eastern Stainless Steel in Baltimore, after 30 years of service.

He was of the United Methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eva Henderson Stephens; four sons, Earl Stephens and Ray Stephens, both of Baltimore, Dick Stephens of Martinsburg, W.Va., and David Stephens of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; one sister, Louise Vanorsdale of Baltimore; four brothers, Richard, Theodore and James Stephens, all of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Walter Stephens of Falling Waters, W.Va.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Boyd J. and Eugene Stephens; five sisters, Elsie and Annie Divel, Rosie Mills, Fannie Cole and Mary S. Siler; two brothers, George Stephens and Tommy Stephens.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W. Va. The Rev. Elsie M. McKenney will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Joyce C. McCammon

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Joyce C. McCammon, 69, of 1524 Howell Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Sept. 13, 1997, in her home in Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Edgar D. and Lottie M. Matthews Sprecher.

She was a 1946 graduate from Hagerstown High School.

She was employed by C&P Telephone Co. in Hagerstown.

She volunteered at Washington County Sheriff's Department.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert E. McCammon of Hagerstown; one daughter, Kathy C. Carbaugh and one son, Darrell R. McCammon, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Beverly L. Wolff of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Sprecher.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Edwin H. Smead Sr.

Edwin Howard Smead Sr., 80, of 12907 Fountain Head Road, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 21, 1917, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edwin Julius and Grace Kriete Smead.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris E. Smead, whom he married on Sept. 10, 1980.

He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, and he attended Lafayette College in Easton, Pa.

He was employed by Staton Furniture, then by Hagerstown Cabinet Co. and Wood Industries, all in Hagerstown.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hagerstown.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 42.

He is survived by his wife Doris Bennett Smead; one daughter, Sally Smead Weiss of Hagerstown; one son, Edwin Howard Smead Jr. of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Vicki Bennett Firor of Frederick; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Kenneth J. Dorsch will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to American Lung Association, 11 Columbia St., Cumberland, Md. 21502.

Guy C. Wilhide

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Guy C. Wilhide, 85, of 13583 Pennersville Road, and formerly of 410 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Quincy United Methodist Home.

Born Oct. 30, 1911, in Woodsboro, Md., he was the son of the late Charles and Mae Potts Wilhide.

He was employed as a purchasing clerk in the sawmill at Frick Co. in Waynesboro, retiring in 1973.

He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Waynesboro.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He loved to golf and fish and volunteered at the fire hall where he was a life member of ATH&L Co. 1 and past president of the company.

He also was a member of Acacia Lodge 586 F&AM of Waynesboro, Scottish Rite Masonry, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple and Waynesboro Shrine Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ada Snyder, whom he married Dec. 24, 1931; two sons, Ronnie E. Wilhide of Blue Ridge Summit, and Donald E. Wilhide of Henderson, Nev.; one brother, Elwood Wilhide of Lancaster County, Pa.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home Inc., corner of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. James C. House will officiate. Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., where masonic funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. by Acacia Lodge 586 F&AM in Waynesboro.

Arthur F. Cook

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Arthur Franklin Cook, 83, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born Feb. 7, 1914, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Nathan Goff and Belva Stokes Cook.

His wife, M. Lucille Butts Cook, died in 1992.

He retired from Martin Marietta after 45 years.

He was a member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ for more than 50 years, where he was in the choir and served on the consistory. He also served on a number of church committees.

He was a life member of Izaak Walton of Jefferson County, W.Va.; served as national vice president of United Mine, Cement and Gypsum Union; as a member of Local 208, where he was recording secretary; and was a member of the Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of the Moose.

He was an accomplished guitarist, an avid outdoorsman and broadcasted from Martinsburg's first radio station, which was in the Roseland Ballroom of the Apollo Theater.

He is survived by one daughter, Dolores A. Brown of Martinsburg; two grandchildren, Melanie A. Grimm of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Bradley C. Brown of Martinsburg; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Arthur Porterfield Cook; one sister, Catherine E. Alderton and a sister in infancy; and two brothers, Howard N. Cook Sr. and Charles E. Cook.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ. Thomas E. Hartshorn will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg today from 7 to 9 p.m. The casket will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Orvetta Y. Faulder

Orvetta Y. Faulder, 87, a resident of Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown, and formerly of R.D. 4, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born July 26, 1910, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late George Elmer and Irene Yost Faulder.

She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm.

She was a member of Mount Tabor Lutheran Church in Fairview.

She is the last of her immediate family and is survived by several cousins.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery in Fairview. The Rev. Steven Amundson will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle, Pa.

Joyce C. McCammon

Joyce C. McCammon, 69, of 1524 Howell Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at her home in Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lottie M. Matthews Sprecher and Edgar D. Sprecher.

She was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was employed by C&P Telephone Co. in Hagerstown.

Kenneth R. Angle

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Kenneth R. Angle, 55, of 8137 Royer Road, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, as a result of a drowning in Ocean City, Md.

Born Sept. 29, 1941, near Mercersburg, he was the son of the late H. Raymond and Nellie V. Shinham Angle.

He was a truck driver for 20 years with D.M. Bowman Trucking in Williamsport. For the past five years he drove for Food Lion of Greencastle, Pa.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

He was a member of Welsh Run Church of the Brethren, where he was a Sunday school teacher for the Young People and Adult classes. He was a trustee and treasurer of the Welsh Run Brethren Cemetery Board.

He enjoyed restoring antique cars and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Hornbaker Angle, whom he married Nov. 28, 1964; one daughter, Laura Angle of Mercersburg; one son, Chris L. Angle of Mercersburg; two sisters, Dorothy Mills of Edenville, Pa., and Eleanor L. Miller of Mercersburg; three brothers, John E. Angle and Harold R. Angle, both of Greencastle, and Charles L. Angle of Smithsburg; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dale R. Angle; and one brother, Donald Angle.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Welsh Run Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Henry Hunsberger and the Rev. W. David Kent, M.D., will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

A viewing will be at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
