Lillian P. Robinson
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lillian Paige Robinson, infant daughter of Darrish B. Robinson and Kasondra Marie Lee, both of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Fontaine E. and Chyral Lee of Martinsburg; paternal grandmother, Rachael Holmes of Spring Lake, N.C.; and paternal grandfather, Lee Jamison of Bridgeton, N.J.
Services and burial will be private.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
William H. Williams
SMITHSBURG - William Herbert Williams, 73, of Smithsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 24, 1924, in Clinton, Md., he was the son of the late William H. and Lillian Smith Williams Sr.
He retired from Bell Atlantic after 39 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of Bell Branch Seventh-day Adventist Church, Gambrills, Md.
He is survived by his wife, Marion G. Barr Williams; four sons, Ronald M. Williams and Donald R. Williams, both of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Thomas J. Williams of Gambrills and Douglas Williams of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Florence and Florence Harris.
Services will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. Pastor Zell Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles J. Hilton
NAPLES, N.Y. - Charles J. "Popa Joe" Hilton, 65, of 112 N. Main St., Apartment 4, Box 475, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at Buffalo New York Veterans Affairs Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
Born Sept. 2, 1932, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late John and Mary Catherine Doyle Hilton.
He graduated from high school in New York.
He received a heart transplant 11 years ago on his 54th birthday.
He served as assistant superintendent for an apartment complex in Eggertsville, N.Y., retiring in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army for 12 years and then the U.S. Air Force for two years. He served during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Ritchie for a number of years. He was a recipient of the Medal of Honor.
He was a member of the VFW in Naples.
He is survived by his wife, Martha J. Smith Hilton, whom he married May 3, 1953; two daughters, Bonnie L. Siegrist of Honeoye, N.Y., and Penny J. Haremza of Naples; one son, Ronnie C. Hilton of Waynesboro; two sisters, Patricia Sanchez and Margaret King; three brothers, John Hilton, Fred Hilton and Richard Hilton; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hilton.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Sharon L. Forbes will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery
in Cascade, with military graveside services conducted by Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard of Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Myrtle L. Harmison
Myrtle Louise Harmison, 70, of 220 N. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Homewood Nursing Home, Williamsport.
Born Sept. 4, 1927, in Worland, Wyo., she was the daughter of the late Edward K. and Mary Julia Wortham Smith.
Her husband, Claude Woodrow Harmison, died in 1987.
She was a homemaker, but was previously employed at Hagerstown Leather Co.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Lee Cleland of Ellicott City, Md.; one sister, Marjorie M. Smith of Prescott, Ariz.; and one brother, David H. Smith of Kansas City, Kan.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Joseph O. Duvall Jr.
MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. - Joseph Oscar Duvall Jr., 61, of Russell's Trailer Park, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at his home.
Born July 19, 1936, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Joseph Oscar and Loretta Brady Duvall Sr.
He owned and operated J.D. Tools Inc., serving Jefferson and Berkeley counties in West Virginia. He also was a professional photographer.
He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Summit Point Road, Charles Town, W.Va., and served as head elder of the church.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley A. Windsor Duvall; two sons, Joseph Douglas Duvall of Baltimore and Kevin Lee Duvall of Pasadena, Md.; one sister, Shirley May Schneider of Pasadena; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Summit Point Road, Charles Town. Pastor George Wennerberg will officiate. The Good News Gospel Singers will provide music at the service. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery
in Ellicott City, Md.
Friends will be received at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Allen L. Fox
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Allen Lee Fox, 64, of Route 3, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born June 21, 1933, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lawrence R. and Leola Louise Nevel Fox.
He is survived by eight sisters, Bivian Henry, Darlajean Waugh, Arlazee Elliott, Elner Michael, Bonnie Fritts and Melva McDonald, all of Hedgesville, Vicki Fox of Glengary, W.Va., and Mary Adelman of Inwood, W.Va.; five brothers, Guy W. Fox, Dale S. Fox, Ark P. Fox, Jay M. Fox and Kevin Fox, all of Hedgesville; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Arch W. Fox.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Hennis Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery
in Morgan County.

Freida J. Klaasse
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Freida June Klaasse, 72, of Shannondale, Harpers Ferry, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, in Charleston, W.Va.
Born July 1, 1925, in Lewiston, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Lake and Jennie Renfro Wilcoxen.
Her husband, Robert Allen Klaasse, died in 1988.
She was an accountant with Lever Brothers Inc. in Baltimore for 40 years.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She was a member of Shannondale Club Ltd. and Shannondale Women's Club, both in Harpers Ferry.
She was a supporter of the Democratic Party in Jefferson County and West Virginia.
She is survived by two nieces, Vivian White of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Carleta Evans of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one nephew, Norman Wilcoxen of Abingdon, Ill.; a close friend, Herbert A. Russell of Charles Town, W.Va.; and a great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shannondale Springs Chapel, Mission Road in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Harold L. Jones Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery
in Charles Town.
There will be no visitation.

Nellie H. Pitzer
INWOOD, W.Va. - Nellie Horner Pitzer, 96, of Thunder Hill Farm, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Care Haven of Berkeley.
Born Aug. 7, 1901, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Annie Elizabeth Nesmith Horner.
Her husband, Harry J. Pitzer, died in 1981.
She was a member of Inwood United Methodist Church and the Daughter of the King Sunday School Class.
She is survived by one daughter, Audrey P. LeDane of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; one son, David James Pitzer of Inwood; one sister, Helen Miller of Manassas, Va.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Iva H. Weller, Nora A. Brindle and Virginia H. Linton; and five brothers, Homer Horner, Harry Horner, Hamilton Horner, Hunter Horner and Ernest Horner.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. John E. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.

Margaret E. Varner
FREDERICK, Md. - Margaret E. Varner, 83, of Frederick, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at her home.
Born Aug. 17, 1914, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Olive Powell. She lived in Hagerstown during her childhood.
Her husband, Dr. Philip H. Varner, died in 1990.
She was trained in nursing at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C., and worked as a registered nurse for more than 20 years.
She was active in Democratic Party politics in Montgomery County, Md. She voluntered at the National Archives and the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by two sons, Conrad Varner of Frederick, and Philip H. Varner Jr. of Medford, N.J.; four sisters, Evelyn Powell of Hagerstown, Mary Valentino, Helen Eslick and Nellie Lee Powell; three brothers, Robert Powell, David Powell and Allan Powell, all of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Powell; and one brother, Clarence Powell.
There will be no visitation.
Private services will be held by the family.

Sylvia J. Benner
GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. - Sylvia Jean Benner, 69, of Gerrardstown, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 6, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John Luther and Anna Belle Weidman Aikens.
She was the retired owner and operator of Benner's Poultry Farm and a seasonal worker with Musselman's.
She was a member of Gerrardstown United Methodist Church and attended Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
She volunteered at Hospice of the Panhandle, Heartland Nursing Home and Ridgeway Children's Fund.
She is survived by three daughters, Cheryl D. Alter, Debra J. Palmer and Brenda S. Christian, all of Winchester, Va.; one sister, Katherine Lowther of Martinsburg; three brothers, Max Aikens of Gerrardstown, Robert Aikens and John Aikens, both of Martinsburg; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Abrell; and one brother, Willard Aikens.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Cletus Palmer will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
