W. Harry Forbes Jr.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - W. Harry Forbes Jr., 76, of 964 Penn Wood Court, and formerly of 3424 Edenville Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at Penn Hall Nursing Center, Chambersburg.

Born June 17, 1921, in Scotland, Pa., he was the son of the late W. Harry and Sarah Shetter Forbes.

He was a 1939 graduate of Chambersburg High School, a graduate of Lebanon Valley College with a degree in music, and received his master's degree from Shippensburg University.

He was a music teacher at Chambersburg Elementary School and a guidance counselor at Chambersburg Middle School.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg, where he was choir director for 25 years. He also sang in the choir of Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring.

He also was a member and past president of Falling Spring Chapter 2840 AARP; a member of Chambersburg Community Chorus and Town Singers, and Franklin County Art Alliance Association; and a former member of Franklin County Retired Teachers Association, Franklin County Chapter of School Retirees and the executive committee of Meals on Wheels of Franklin County.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Hill Forbes, whom he married Aug. 8, 1954; one sister, Mildred M. Besecker of Chambersburg; and one brother, Robert W. Forbes of Chambersburg.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

There will be no viewing; however a visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Clifford G. Mason

WILLIAMSPORT - Clifford G. Mason, 66, of Williamsport, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Sept. 15, 1930, in Lakewood, Ohio, he was the son of Violet Balch Mason of Clearwater, Fla., and the late Francis D. Mason.

He was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Sharpsburg, retiring in 1991.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Military Order of Purple Heart; American Legion Post 202 in Williamsport; DAV; 32nd Infantry Regiment Association; and VFW in Hagerstown.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Armstrong Mason; two daughters, Kathleen Mason Main of Keedysville, and Denise Tusing Price of Sharpsburg; three sons, James Mason, Daniel Mason and Kenneth Mason, all of West Virginia; one sister, Marilyn Yomnick of Clearwater; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Doris M. Itnyre

Doris Marguerite Itnyre, 86, of 9639 Crystal Falls Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at the home of her daughter at 21636 Black Rock Road, Hagerstown.

Born March 19, 1911, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Lester and Bertha Grace Shamberger Snyder.

Her husband, Wilbur Allen Itnyre Sr., died in 1975.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She also was a member of Ladies of the Moose; American Legion Auxiliary; and North American Rod and Gun Club Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter, Kay Webber of Hagerstown; one son, Wilbur A. Itnyre Jr. of Hagerstown; four sisters, Margaret Lewis and Ethel Miller, both of Hagerstown, Judith Alloway of Greencastle, Pa., and Phyllis Ford of Williamsport; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, M. Virginia Hess; and one brother, W. Russell Snyder.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev Ann V. Atkins will officiate. She was cremated.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 322-324 E. Antietam St., Suite 306-B, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Alverta L. Mellott

BIG POOL - Alverta L. "Boots" Mellott, 64, of 10885 Big Pool Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 2, 1933, in Big Spring, she was the daughter of Rachel E. Miller Shoemaker of Big Pool, and the late Robert M. Shoemaker.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Big Pool.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Charles Mellott of Big Pool; two daughters, Barbara E. Lucas of Big Pool and Linda S. Gandy Harrison of Cascade; three sisters, Mary J. Smith and Gloria M. Miller, both of Hagerstown, and Lanca L. Mills of Williamsport; one brother, Robert L. Shoemaker of Falling Waters, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, Clear Spring.

Evelyn L. Schenck

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Evelyn L. Schenck, 67, of 89 Edgelea Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born March 12, 1930, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Seth Eugene and Cedonia M. Hissong Benedick.

She was a 1948 graduate of Lemasters High School in Lemasters, Pa., where she was the salutatorian of her class. She was a 1951 graduate of Washington County Hospital School of Nursing.

She worked as a registered nurse at Chambersburg Hospital for 25 years.

She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church near Upton, Pa.

She also was a member of Washington County Hospital Nurses Association in Hagerstown.

She was an avid seamstress.

She is survived by three daughters, Ninda D. Hastings Sr. of St. Albans, Vt., Nichole Mohn Machamer of Marietta, Pa., and Nanette D. Schenck of Chambersburg; one son, Gregory Nicholas Schenck of Elkridge, Md.; her former husband, Fred C. Schenck of Greencastle, Pa.; three half sisters; three stepsisters; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 8835 Lemar Road, Greencastle. The Rev. Alan R. Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to The Arthritis Foundation, 17 S. 19th St., P.O. Box 668, Camp Hill, Pa. 17011; or to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 8835 Lemar Road, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle.

Marvin M. Ellis

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Marvin M. Ellis, 89, of Hedgesville, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at his home.

Born Dec. 20, 1907, in Hedgesville, he was the son of the late John C. and Annie Miller Ellis.

His first wife, Evelyn Duke Ellis, preceded him in death.

He was a farmer and orchardist.

He was a member of Mount Zion Episcopal Church in Hedgesville.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Brenwald Morris Ellis; one daughter, Carol Evelyn Ellis Thomas of Chesapeake, Va.; one son, Marvin McKendre Ellis of Hedgesville; one stepdaughter, Kathryn Hudgins of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, John C. Ellis Jr. of Martinsburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Walter Marvin Ellis; and one sister, Maude Moler.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Burial will be in Hedgesville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Lloyd E. Barnhart

Lloyd Edgar Barnhart, 85, of 516 Indiana Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 23, 1912, in State Line, Pa., he was the son of the late Clyde Hartle and Clara Kate Gossard Barnhart.

His wife, Edith Pearl Barnhart, died in August.

He was employed with M.P. Moller Inc., retiring after more than 40 years of service.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He also was a member of the former Moose Lodge in Hagerstown.

He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ann Grimm of Hagerstown; one sister, Dorothy Ruth Jennings of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Linford Paul Barnhart.

Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert S. Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Cody E.C. High

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Cody Eugene Culbertson High, 6-month-old son of Shaun E. High and Kristine M. Culbertson of 7764 Nyesville Road, Chambersburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at University Hospital-Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa., where he was a patient since birth.

He was born March 15, 1997, in Carlisle, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Larry E. and Mary Jane Culbertson of Chambersburg; paternal grandparents, Deborah Robinson of Chambersburg and Dennis High of Shippensburg, Pa.; maternal great-grandparents, Lester and Helen Shatzer of St. Thomas, Pa.; paternal great-grandparents, Kenneth and Carolyn Stouffer of Chambersburg; paternal great-great-grandmother, Mary High of Chambersburg; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Robert P. Conway will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

There will be no viewing; however the family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of University Hospital/Hershey Medical Center, 500 University Drive, Hershey, Pa. 17033.

Kari L. Trumpower

Kari Lea Trumpower, 7, of 31 High St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born May 30, 1990, in Hagerstown, she is the daughter of Lloyd M. Pearson Jr. of Waynesboro, Pa., and Karen J. Trumpower of Hagerstown, and stepdaughter of Terry L. Knight of Hagerstown.

She was a second-grade student at Salem Avenue School in Hagerstown.

She attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Girl's Club in Hagerstown.

In addition to her parents and stepfather, she is survived by one sister, Melissa A. Pearson of Waynesboro; two brothers, Ryan S. Pearson of Waynesboro, and Joshua L. Trumpower of Hagerstown; maternal grandmother, Patricia L. Churchey of Sharpsburg; paternal grandparents, Lloyd M. Pearson Sr. and Evelyn Pearson of Greencastle, Pa.; maternal great-grandparents, Marie V. Abbott of Sharpsburg, and Clifton and Edna Churchey of Sharpsburg; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Dale R. Carver will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
