Alyssa D. Hinton Sunde

FOX GLEN, W.Va. - Alyssa Desiree Hinton Sunde, 8 months old, of Fox Glen, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C.

Born Jan. 23, 1997, in Ranson, W.Va., she was the daughter of Steven Carl Sunde and Dana Marie Hinton of Fox Glen.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Larry and Sarah Hinton of Fox Glen; paternal grandparents, Carl and Susan Sunde of Fox Glen; paternal great-grandparents, Ingvold and Sylvia Sunde of Fox Glen; one aunt; three cousins; and great-aunts and great-uncles.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Kathleen Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 91896, Washington, D.C. 20090.

Catherine E. Wiedel

KEEDYSVILLE, Md. - Catherine Elizabeth Wiedel, 43, of 57 S. Main St., died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at her home.

Born Dec. 1, 1953, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Mitchell L. Frances Jr. of Dundalk, Md., and the late Barbara A. Sailsbury Frances.

She was a sixth-grade science teacher at Boonsboro Middle School.

She was a member of St. James Brethren Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.

She was a member of Christian Educator's Association, International.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Gary W. Wiedel, whom she married on July 18, 1976; two sons, Karl A. Wiedel of Kings Point, N.Y., and Hans C.L. Wiedel, at home; two sisters, Barbara L. Martin of Perry Hall, Md., and Susan M. Douglas of Taneytown, Md.; and two brothers, Mitchell L. Frances III of Perry Hall, and Robert J. Frances of Hampstead, Md.

A memorial services will be Saturday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m., at St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road, Fairplay. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James School, College Road, Hagerstown, MD. 21740.

Arrangements are by Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro.

Beatrice J. Fox

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Beatrice J. Fox, 85, of Shepherdstown, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at I.H.S. of West Virginia, Charles Town, W.Va.

Born Jan. 15, 1912, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Betty Marie Robinson Boyd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin B. Fox, in 1993.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Shepherdstown, where she was a member of the choir and other church groups.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Branson of Shepherdstown and Ida Twyman of Gaithersburg, Md.; two brothers, Leslie G. Clark and William Grantham, both of Shepherdstown; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Boyd; and two brothers, Charles Boyd and Warren Clark.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown. The Rev. Ernest Lyles Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Arrangements are by Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg.

Jessica L. Newell

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jessica Lynn Newell, 7, of Route 5, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, in Martinsburg.

Born March 19, 1990, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of David E. and Deborah Virginia Stream Newell of Martinsburg.

She was in the second grade at Berkeley Heights Elementary School and was an honor roll student.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Lisa Newell and Kellie Cline, both of Martinsburg; maternal grandparents, Beatrice and George Stream of Point of Rocks, Md.; paternal grandparents, Janice and Mike Newell of Martinsburg; maternal great-grandmother, Dorothea Phillips of Green Bay, Wis.; paternal great-grandmother, Alice McCuthion of Point of Rocks; two nieces; two nephews; aunts; and uncles.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Michael G. Marsh will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library, 101 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Stephen M. Cady

Stephen M. Cady of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Cady; and two children, Aaron and Sarah.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Md. Burial will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Stan Mikita School for the Deaf.

Donna M.H. LeMaster

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Donna Marie Houser LeMaster, 43, of Route 3, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born March 20, 1954, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of Donald Lee Houser of Martinsburg and the late Marie Lentz Houser.

She was a 1972 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a graduate of John Robert Powers School of Dance.

She was the former owner of and teacher at Donna Houser Schools of Baton.

She was a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Larry LeRoy Lemaster; one son, Larry Lee LeMaster, at home; and paternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Mahoney of Charles Town, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Lee Houser Jr.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, South Queen Street, Martinsburg. The Rev. Dennis E. Jackman and the Rev. John E. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Frances B. Lapole

Frances B. Lapole, 85, of 412 Reynolds Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center.

Born in Harrisonburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Elizabeth Schulley Keyton.

She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Russell M. Lapole; two daughters, Dorothy M. Baker and Shirley Y. Smith, both of Hagerstown; two sons, James Swartz of Baltimore and Raymond Swartz of Hagerstown; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Neville; and three brothers, William Keyton, Clarence Keyton, and Roy Keyton.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Spencer E. Smoot

MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. - Spencer Edward Smoot, 75, of Leight's Trailer Court, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Feb. 10, 1922, in Rappahannock County, Va., he was the son of the late William F. and Anna Clay Smoot.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Virginia Smoot, in 1971.

He retired as a self-employed farmer in Jefferson County, W.Va.

He was of Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by two daughters, Annie Virginia Proctor of Ranson, W.Va., and Bonnie Louise McDonald of Charles Town, W.Va.; four sons, Charles A. Smoot, Laurel O. Smoot and Roy E. Smoot, all of Charles Town, W.Va., and James M. Smoot of Kabletown, W.Va.; one sister, Louise Tomblin of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two brothers, Louis Smoot of Ranson and John Henry Smoot of Halltown, W.Va.; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a companion, Anna Settle of Middleway.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Florence A. Smoot; and one sister, Mabel Dillow.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. John Bower will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Evelyn M. Martin

MAUGANSVILLE - Evelyn M. Martin, 81, a resident of Mennonite Old People's Home, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 7, 1915, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Sallie E. Martin Martin.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Reiff Mennonite Church near Cearfoss.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence S. Martin, whom she married in December 1935; one daughter, Lorraine M. Eby of Maugansville; three sons, Leonard A. Martin and Mark L. Martin, both of Clear Spring, and Wilmer E. Martin of Hagerstown; 24 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two infant great-granddaughters, and one sister, Isabel J. Horst.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Reiff Mennonite Church near Cearfoss. The Reiff Mennonite church ministry will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church and one hour before the service on Friday.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa.

Shirley E. Ruths

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Shirley E. Ruths, 61, of 15515 Jacobs Church Road, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at her mother's home, 14419 McAfee Rd., Cascade.

Born June 15, 1936, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Kathryn M. Sites Ruths, a resident of Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown, and the late Howard W. Ruths Sr.

She was a 1954 graduate of Smithsburg High School. She was a 1957 graduate of Washington County School of Nursing as a registered nurse.

She served in the U.S. Navy for five years, reaching the rank of lieutenant.

She worked at Washington County Hospital for one year. She was employed as an industrial nurse at Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown. After a short time at Fort Richie, she worked for Washington County Health Department for 17 years.

She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Cascade.

She was a member of Plymouth Chapter 41, Order of the Eastern Star in Union Bridge, Md.; Washington County School of Nursing Alumni Association; and Cascade American Legion Post 239.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one sister, Sharon F. Olson of Cascade; one brother, Howard W. Ruths Jr. of Stephens City, Va.; one aunt; one uncle; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Eugene M. Cline will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematory, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
