Dorothy V. Whipp

FREDERICK, Md. - Dorothy Virginia Whipp, 83, of 612 Grant Place, and formerly of Braddock Heights, Md., died on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Citizens Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 18, 1914, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Harriett Cramer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Whipp.

She was retired from American Optical Co., Frederick.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, Md.

She is survived by one daughter, Miriam W. Rohrer of Frederick; one son, Donald L. Whipp of Ligonier, Pa.; one sister, Evelyn Love of Oakdale, Calif.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John C. Cramer and Elwood L. Cramer.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Burial will be in Rocky Springs Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be sent to Frederick County/Western Maryland Alzheimer's Association, 1730 N. Market St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Matthew R. Hovis

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Memorial services for Matthew Roy "Matt" Hovis, 25, of 312 Geiser Ave., who died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, will be Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Church of the Apostles, 336 Barnett Ave., Waynesboro. Pastor Carole A. Kipe will officiate.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Evelyn M. Martin

MAUGANSVILLE - Evelyn M. Martin, 81, a resident of Mennonite Old People's Home, who died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, was the daughter of the late Amos and Sallie E. Martin Horst.

Ida R. Forrest

BOONSBORO - Ida Regina "Jean" Forrest, 82, of 21508 Swope Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Reeder's Memorial Home, Boonsboro.

Born Sept. 20, 1915, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Lavina Lynn Sigler.

She was retired from E.J. Fennel.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John Kenneth Forrest of Boonsboro; one daughter, Barbara Reeder of Beaver Creek; one son, Richard L. Forrest of Boonsboro; two sisters, Elizabeth Ogden of Boonsboro and Thelma Jackson of Sharpsburg; two brothers, Maurice Sigler of Williamsport and Glenn Sigler of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Tracy, Anna Sigler and Mary Sigler; and three brothers, Charles Sigler, John Sigler and Robert Sigler.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Elza Hurst will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Lena United Methodist Church Cemetery, Mount Lena.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mount Lena United Methodist Church, 21234 Mount Lena Road, Boonsboro, Md. 21713.

Alden J. Roberts

HANCOCK - Alden J. Roberts, 77, of Fulton Street, Hancock, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1919, in Hancock, he was the son of the late William Edward and Grace Fletcher Roberts.

He was employed as a carpenter by several independent contractors.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Betty Bennett Roberts of Hancock; three daughters, Donna Steiner and Anna Holland, both of Hagerstown, and Linda Kline of Boonsboro; two sons, Dale Eugene Roberts of Cumberland, Md., and William Edward Roberts of Hagerstown; one sister, Viola Stottlemyer of Little Orleans, Md.; one brother, Lawrence Roberts of Clear Spring; and Catherine Miller, the mother of his children; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Idella Winfield and Mildred Ward; and one brother, Floyd Roberts.

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 E. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. R.D. Smith Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from noon to 1 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Earline K. Halback

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Earline Kuhn Halback, 80, of Fort Myers, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, in Fort Myers.

She lived in Hagerstown until 1962, and then in Rockville, Md.

She retired from the National Institutes of Health.

Her first husband, Robert Kuhn, died in 1955.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Al Halback.

She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown.

She is survived by two daughters, SuZanne McPherson of Springfield, Va., and Sara Crissy of Manchester, Conn.; three sons, Robert Kuhn of New Market, Md., Edward Kuhn of Forestville, Calif., and Patrick Kuhn of Lancaster, Pa.; two stepchildren, Christopher Halback and Barbara McKinney, both of Philadelphia; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death one son, Michael Kuhn.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Unity Interfaith Center, 1 W. 9th St., Frederick, Md. Katherine Sunderman will officiate. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends on Saturday following the memorial service.

Blanche E. Culler

FAIRPLAY - Blanche E. Culler, 72, of Fairplay, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

Born Nov. 9, 1924, near Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Ruth Corderman Hurd.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion, Boonsboro. She was a supporter of District 12 Ruritan Club.

She is survived by her husband, David E. Culler, whom she married on Aug. 15, 1947; three daughters, Deborah E. Smith of Hagerstown, Ruth Chapman Smith of Smithsburg and Judy Chapman Statler of St. Thomas, Pa.; one son, Gregory E. Culler of Fairplay; three sisters, Harriet Gilbert, Margaret Moats and Viola Edwards, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Howard Hurd of Hagerstown and Ray Hurd of McConnellsburg, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Manor Cemetery, Tilghmanton. The Rev. Loyal H. Vanderveer will officiate.

There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Kara L. Staley

TANEYTOWN, Md. - Kara Leigh Staley, 11, of Taneytown, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at Penn State Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit of the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa., after a one week illness.

Born Oct. 30, 1985, she was the daughter of Harry and Jo Butts Staley.

She was a Calvert School home-schooled student since 1992.

She recently danced at Gotta Dance Academy of the Arts in Hanover, Pa., and formerly danced at All That Jazz, also in Hanover. She did a summer performance of "The Wizard of Oz," with Escapade Theatre Co. in Hagerstown. In 1996, she danced in Disney World with The Direct Hit Performance Co.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Ryan C. Staley of Fairfield, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Wolford and Catherine Staley of Hagerstown; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her remains were donated to Delaware Valley Transplant Program for organ and tissue donor purposes and for medical research.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gotta Dance Academy for the Arts for a scholarship fund, 9 Carlisle St., Hanover, Pa. 17331; or Escapade Theatre Co., 21 S. Leo W. Tucker

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Leo Wayne Tucker, 74, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Sept. 21, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Leo C. and Mabel Middleton Tucker.

He retired from Shawley Gas Co. in Hagerstown. Following retirement, he was a consultant.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Barney Tucker; one daughter, Diana Kneisly of Martinsburg; two sons, Michael Wayne Tucker of Inwood, W.Va., and Carl Douglas Tucker of Martinsburg; one brother, Guy T. Tucker of Rockville, Md.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl F. Tucker.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Al Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles M. Danzer

Charles M. "Scoof" Danzer, 72, of 18802 Dover Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 10, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Anna M. Freeman Danzer Sr.

He was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy. He received an engineering degree from Yale University.

He retired from Sciaky Brothers in Chicago after 25 years as a sales engineer. He previously worked for Fairchild Aircraft.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church.

He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion, BPO Elks Lodge 378, North American Rod and Gun Club, and Conococheague Sportsman Club.

He is survived by his wife, Louise M. Imler Danzer; one sister, Anna Danzer Tilghman of Centreville, Md.; one niece; and three nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, 201 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Dale Cook will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, 201 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Toby A. Shrader II

HANCOCK - Toby Alan Shrader II, 21 months, of Hollow Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born Dec. 1, 1995, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Toby Alan and Melissa Fogle Shrader of Hancock.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Thomas J. Cross, at home; maternal grandfather, William Fleegle of Warfordsburg, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Rhonda Shrader of Hancock; maternal great-grandparents, Emory and Hallie Fleegle of Hancock; paternal great-grandfather, Jack Shrader of Hagerstown; and paternal great-grandmother, Rosalie Jones of Little Orleans, Md.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Myrtle Fleegle.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. Burial will be in Antioch Christian Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to the Toby Shrader Family, 14070 Hollow Road, Hancock, Md. 21750.
