Paul Gilbert Harrington of Easton, died at his home on Tuesday, February 8, 2000, He was 79.
Born on March 26, 1920, in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lillian Lynch Harrington. After graduating from Dedham High School in 1937 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he remained until his discharge in 1959. While serving as a deep-sea diver he was involved with Operation Crossroads, the first underwater atomic explosion during World War II. He later served in the Korean War. From 1959 until 1974 he worked for the Civil Service, after which he and his wife moved to the Eastern Shore.
He was a member of the Easton Elks Lodge #1622, B.P.O.E., the E.E. Streets Memorial Post VFW #5118, the American Legion Post #70 and the Association of Radiation Survivors.
Mr. Harrington is survived by his wife, the former Elma LeGates, whom he married on December 6, 1946 and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Thrusday, February 10, 2000 at Junior Order Cemetery, Preston, MD at 11:00 AM.

Leon Oryn Gunn, Jr. of Stevensville MD. died Monday February 7, 2000 at his home. He was
Born on October 10, 1921 in Jackson, Tennessee, the son of the late Leon Oryn Gunn, Senior and Vivian Anderson Gunn . He was raised in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from North Dallas High School. Mr. Gunn was well known in Dallas as a young man for his roles in his father’s acting company, The Madcap Players. Mr. Gunn joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in early1941, where he was trained as a pilot, and flew with the Royal Air Force in Britain . When America joined World War II, he transferred to the American Air Force, where he served for 25 years, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1969. Mr. Gunn served in the campaigns of Bismarck Achipelago, Dutch New Guinea, Netherlands East Indies, Luzon, and South Philippines. He was wounded in a plane crash in Hollandia, and received the Purple Heart, as well as many other decorations. During his military career Mr. Gunn was involved in announcing the space defense concept to other countries in the NATO alliance.In addition, he served with the Joint Chief of Staff of the Air Force. Following retirement, Mr. Gunn became a manager and assistant broker for Prince George's Properties, later working in Anne Arundel and Queen Anne counties, where he was the managing broker of the Prospect Bay Development. He married Janice Marie Jones of Millersville, MD in 1982. He was a member of Island Alliance Church in Stevensville, MD. Master Mason with the Scottish Rite Lodge in Texas.
Mr. Gunn is survived in the home by his wife, Janice Marie Gunn, and his grandson Sean Eric Dixon. In addition, he is survived by one son, Douglas Hearn Gunn of Shreveport, Louisiana., one stepson, Michael Fowler of Lutherville, MD, two daughters, Madalyne Gunn Cargill of Herndon, VA and Cynthia Michelle Gunn of Reston, VA., one stepdaughtr, Cathy Alexander of Baltimore, MD, and one sister, Jeanie Donnelly of Dallas, Texas, as well as 6 additional grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 11AM on Friday February 11, 2000 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD. Where family and friends may call on Thursday February 10, 2000 from 3PM to 5PM and 7PM to 9PM. Interment will be in Stevensville Cemetery

Sandra Carol Crosson of Easton died Monday, February 7, 2000 at the Talbot Hospice House, Easton. She was 56.
Born May 4, 1943 in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Milton L. and Romaine McCollum Martin. After graduating from Coatesville High School in 1961 she resided in Pennsylvania. On April 1, 1972 she married John R. Crosson. Mr. Crosson died in 1990. In 1991 she moved to Talbot County.
Mrs. Crosson is survived by a daughter, Lisa A. Fluharty of Tilghman; a sister, Joan Boyer of Honey Brook, PA ; a brother, Donald Martin of State College, PA and three grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Richard Martin who died in 1997.
Services will be held at a later date.

Laura Eleanor (Snider) Warner of Chestertown, Md. died on February 6, 2000 at Easton Memorial Hospital. She was 76. She was born on a dairy farm in Baldwin, Md. on May 9, 1923, the daughter of the late John Alfred and Carrie May Willhauck Snider. She married Brinton Franklin Warner on January 17, 1942 they lived in the Baltimore area. Mrs. Warner worked for a brief time with Bendix Freeze and later Black and Decker, however, for the majority of her life she was a homemaker, raising her family in the Carney area. On January 23, 1986 her husband predeceased her, and soon after she moved to Chestertown, Md. She was a member of the Gardenville Moose Lodge.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Brenda Warner Horney of Chestertown, Md. and Eleanor Lynn Shaw of Westminster, Md.;4 sisters: Dorothy May Hartley of Bel Air, Md., Margaret Grace Hartlove of Jarrettsville, Md., Helen Rosealee Russell of Riley, TX., and Ruth Loraine de Zwart of Maitland, Fl.; along with 3 grandchildren: William Martin Callahan Jr. and Franklin Meginney Callahan both of Centreville, Md. and Bethany Lynn Fretwell of Westminster, Md. Six brothers predeceased her.
Graveside services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to the Chestertown Dialysis Center c/o Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital 100 Brown St. Chestertown, Md. 21620.

Yvonne Coleman of Chester, MD. died February 6, 2000. At the Corsica Hills Nursing Home in Centreville, MD. The family requested private services.
Esther Marie VanTilburg of Chestertown, Md. formerly of Ashland, Ohio died on February 6, 2000 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown, Md. She was 103.
She was born in Ashland, Ohio on January 27, 1897 the daughter of the late Aaron and Mary Kagey Cole. She spent the majority of her life in the Ashland area. Mrs. VanTilburg worked as a switchboard operator in the early 1900’s. She married Delos VanTilburg of Ashland, Ohio in 1920; he predeceased her on July 18, 1954. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland for over 60 years, the American Legion Ladies Auxillary in Ashland and a member of Rachel Circle.
She is survived by a son in law John Scott of Chestertown, Md. A daughter the late Norma Scott predeceased her on November 20, 1998.
Memorial services will be held privately. Interment will be in Ashland Cemetery
in Ashland, Ohio. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

James Holland Strawn of Chester, Md. died on Friday February 4,2000 at the Heartland House in Grasonville, Md. He was 74.
Born on January 3,1926 in Jackson, Tenn. The son of the late James Strawn and Lula Mae Holland.
Jim served his country in both WWII and the Korean War in the United States Navy. He retired in 1973. After retirement, Mr. Strawn went back to school and received his Masters Degree from Georgetown University in 1977. He spent the rest of his life doing what he enjoyed most – Helping people with their boats and as an example of how to look on the bright side of life.
Mr. Strawn is survived by his wife Barbara Strawn of Chester, Md.; 1 Daughter Beth Daniel of Kennesaw, Georgia.; 2 sons Mike Strawn of Charlotte,N.C. and David Strawn of Paris, France.; 1 step-son Robert Yost of Charlotte, N.C. And 12 grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Feb. 8,2000 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, Md. at 3:00pm. Family and Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be on Wednesday Feb. 9,2000 at 1:00pm in Charlottesville,V.A. at the Monticello Memory Gardens.

Anna James Meade of Easton died on Friday, February 4, 2000 at the Genesis Eldercare - The Pines in Easton. She was 86.
Born in Easton on October 11, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie Merrick James. She was a graduate of Easton High School. In 1931, she married Robert T. Meade, Jr. and, for a few years following their marriage, they made their home in Rehobeth, DE. She spent the next twenty-five years in Baltimore, where she worked for a few years as a bookkeeper for an oil company. Following her husband's retirement, she moved to Millsboro, DE. Following her husband's death in 1989, she moved to Denton until returning to Easton in 1992.
Mrs. Meade was a former member of the St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton and attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton.
Mrs. Meade is survived by a son, Robert J. Meade of Easton; a daughter, Dorothy Ann Zerrlaut of Baltimore; a sister, Helen J. Oehlrich of Easton; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Louden Park Cemetery
in Baltimore on Tuesday at 2:30 PM.

Rosalie Richter Lipscomb of Easton died on Friday, February 4, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 88.
Born in Accident, MD on November 13, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Helen Sauerwald Richter. She was also a step-daughter of the late Rosa Richter. A graduate of Accident High School, she worked as a beautician in Gaithersburg before beginning her career as a telephone operator for C & P Telephone Company in Oakland and then, following a move in 1967, in Easton. She retired in 1974 after 26 years of service. In November of 1999 she moved to Toms River, NJ with her daughter and was moving to Texas before becoming ill.
Mrs. Lipscomb was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Accident, and of the Pioneers of America.
Mrs. Lipscomb is survived by a daughter, Barbara Louise McDonald, and her husband, David, of Houston, TX; a sister, Catherine Armbruster of Cumberland; five grandchildren, Terri Condon, Leslie Moon, James Andrew Moon, Jr., and his wife, Tracie, all of Easton, Melinda Schultz and her husband, David, of Preston, and Jackie Carmean of Seaford, DE; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Moon of Cecilton, Brooke Eib of Nashville, TN, Robbie Daffin, Jr., of Federalsburg, Amber Toth of Greensboro, Samantha Moon of Rockmart, GA, Ashlea Barrow of Preston, Kaitlynn Moon of Easton, and Steven Schultz of Preston. A brother, Albert Richter, and two sisters, Margaret George and Evelyn King, are deceased.
Graveside services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery
in Accident, MD on Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at 1:00 PM.

Lucas, Veronica, 80 of Deerfield Beach died on Thursday, February 3, 2000. Formerly of Centreville, MD. Mrs. Lucas has been a resident of Florida since 1986. Veronica was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and was preceeded in death by her loving husband, Dr. F.R. Lucas. She is survived by her three sons; Frank (Louise) Lucas of Boca Raton, FL, Dr. James Lucas of Centreville, MD and Paul August (Brenda) Lucas of Port St. Lucie, FL. A mass of Christian burial will be held 10 AM Saturday, February 5, 2000 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Deerfield Beach, FL. Interment is to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Mrs. Betty Lee Hewitt 75, or Barclay, Md, formally of Worton, Md., died on March 31, 2000 as a result of Cancer.
Born in Massachusetts she was the daughter of the late Blanche Morse. She sent all of her formative years in Hillsboro, Md, and graduated from Tri County High School. During her working career she worked on the assembly line at Technitrol Company in Greensboro, Md.
She married Oliver Hewitt in 1943, moved to Worton, Md., and together they raised a family of 2. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was family orientated as her life evolved around her family. She particularly enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Hewitt enjoyed playing bingo, and traveling throughout the county going to yard sales. She is a member of the Solid Rock Church in Hazlettville, Delaware.
Her husband of 54 years, Oliver Earl Hewitt who died in November of 1997, and a beloved granddaughter, Andrea Loatman who died in 1999, precede Mrs. Hewitt in death
Surviving Mrs. Hewitt is her son John Russell “Rusty” Hewitt and his wife Janet of Barclay with whom she resided, and a daughter Janet Lee Kibler and her husband Donald of Goldsboro, Md., 8 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 6th 2000 from the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 130 Speer Road, Chestertown at 12 Noon. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. till noon on Thursday. Burial will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Church Hill, Md.

Donald Ernest Cummings of Tilghman died on Friday, March 31, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 55.
Born in Easton on July 26, 1944, he was the son of the late George Washington and Maude Scharch Cummings. He attended Tilghman Elementary and St. Michaels High School. He and his family were very proud that he worked for and received his high school diploma at the age of 44. A lifelong resident of Tilghman, he was a waterman for over forty years.
In addition to his wife, the former JoAnne Covington, whom he married on September 4, 1964, he is survived by a son, Brian Keith Cummings of Queenstown; a daughter, Sarah Megan Cummings of Easton; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Kirby Clifford of St. Michaels; and three sisters, Katherine Lomax of Tilghman, Connie Haddaway of McDaniel, and Peggy Granger of St. Michaels. A sister, Anna Mae Cummings, and a brother, John T. Cummings, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at the Tilghman United Methodist Church, Tilghman on Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at 3:00 PM. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Tilghman Memorial Cemetery.
