Alvey F. Ford Sr.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Alvey F. Ford Sr., 89, of 14332 Charmain Rd., died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at his home.

Born July 16, 1908, in Mount Lena, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Fannie Bezzie M. Cline Ford.

He was an electrician, working for various electrical contractors in the area. He retired in December 1974.

He was a 55-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Harrisburg, Pa. He was also a life member of Blue Ridge Summit Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Goldie M. Flohr Ford; four daughters, Dolores E. Frazer of Dover, Del., Sylvia A. Mentzer of Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa., Eleanor M. Wible of Hagerstown, Sandra L. Howes of Silver Spring, Md.; three sons, Alvey F. Ford Jr. and Francis E. Ford, both of Waynesboro, and Garry M. Ford of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; two adopted daughters, Lorna J. Ellis of Waynesboro, and Susan C. Godlove of Hagerstown; one brother, Wheeler Ford of Hagerstown; 28 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Summers; one brother, Cyril Ford; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard Mose will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

George F. Myers

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Memorial donations in the name of George F. Myers, 83, of 123 W. Walter Ave., who died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or to the building fund of First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Hugh N. Jackson

SUMMIT POINT, W.Va. - Hugh N. Jackson, 77, of Summit Point, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born April 23, 1920, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Leslie N. and Louise M. Jackson.

He was formerly employed by Charles Town Race Track as a groom.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by four daughters, Beatrice Jackson, Patricia Jackson, Leslie Jackson, and Louise Jackson, all of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Donald B. Jackson of Charles Town, W.Va.; one nephew; and two great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Georgia Mae Jackson; one son, Hugh Jackson Jr; one sister, Marjorie Jackson; and four brothers, Allen Jackson, Elwood Jackson, Carl Jackson and Melvin Jackson.

Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery. Chaplain Jerry W. Mehaffey will officiate. Military services will be conducted by Newton D. Baker Post 896 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va.

L. Mae Bowles

Lucy Mae Bowles, 70, of 847 Dewey Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 1, 1927, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John David and Sylvia Barger Compton.

Her husband, Albert Riley Bowles, died in 1995.

She was employed with Watkins Johnson in Gaithersburg, Md., for 17 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Ricketts and Patricia Jenkins, both of Hagerstown; three sons, John Bowles of Rockville, Md., Albert Bowles Jr. of Middletown, Md., and Ray Bowles of Virginia; two sisters, Edna Etman of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Janice Kline of Fairplay; four brothers, Lawrence Compton of Mobile, Ala., Buddy Compton of Clear Spring, Howard Compton and Melvin Compton, both of Sharpsburg; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Boward and Janet Tibbs; one son, Ronnie Bowles; and one brother, John R. Compton.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Arvel J. Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Frank H. Parrott Jr.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ret. Chief Petty Officer Frank H. Parrott Jr., 58, of 11287 Woodside Drive, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Oct. 12, 1938, in Chattanooga, Tenn., he was the son of the late Frank H. Parrott Sr. and Ione Puryear Parrott. He lived his early life in Miami.

He was a 1956 graduate of North Miami High School, where he served as class president. He received his associates degree from Olympia College, Bremerton, Wash.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years in the military. He served during the Vietnam War abroad and various parts in the U.S. He retired in 1979. He was employed as a civilian contractor at Fort Meade for Lockheed-Martin and retired in 1995.

He was a member of Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church, Gambrills, Md.

He was a member of the Fleet Reserve and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne V. Bryant Parrott, whom he married on Dec. 21, 1962; one daughter, Sheila K. Parrott of Ellicott City, Md.; one son, Tony T. Parrott of Gambrills; two sisters, Mary Howe of LaFayette, Ga., and Barbara Williams of Atlanta; one brother, Raymond Parrott of LaFayette; two aunts; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Parrott.

Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Robin Shefflett will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Randolph A. Alger

RANSON, W.Va. - Randolph Alfred Alger, 77, of Ranson, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at his home.

Born April 10, 1920, in Staunton, Va., he was the son of the late Lynwood Lee and Amanda Jane Franklin Alger.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, L. Jeannette Alger, in 1942.

He was the founder of Alger's Auto Recycling Inc. and retired in 1978.

He was of the Pentecostal faith.

He was veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline I. Garrett Alger, whom he married in 1946; seven daughters, Bonnie J. Dunn of Middleway, W.Va., Barbara J. Stevens of Martinsburg, W.Va., Linda J. Higgs of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Jean A. Painter and Sharon L. Hardy, both of Ranson, Joan A. Underwood of Charles Town, W.Va., and Shirley M. Alger, at home; five sons, Jerry L. Alger of Ranson, James R. Alger of Shepherdstown, David L. Alger, Kenneth W. Alger and Frankie W. Alger, all of Ranson; two sisters, Josephine Judy and Lorraine "Gin" Watts; one brother, Kenneth "Pete" Alger of Ranson; 23 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Nettie Yost; and three brothers, Harry Alger, Frank Alger and Luke Alger.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bolivar Pentecostal International Church of Christ, Bolivar, W.Va. The Rev. Aaron Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Bolivar Pentecostal International Church of Christ, Route 3, Box 1286, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. 25425.

Josephine O. Grove

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Josephine Oberholzer Grove, 79, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at the Presbyterian Hospital, North Carolina.

She was born in Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Grove.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce G. Giggs of Charlotte and Jean G. Cranshaw of Lexington, S.C.; three sisters, Vada Henesy of Hagerstown, Inez Culp of Goshen, Ind., and Rachel Horst of Chambersburg, Pa.; two brothers, Wilmer Oberholzer of Hagerstown and Raymond Oberholzer of Shady Grove, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Joanne Spidel; and one son, Don Grove.

Services were held in Charlotte.

Memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 1915 Oakdale Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28216.

Kathleen H. Jones

LANCASTER, Pa. - Kathleen H. Jones, 85, of 1800 Village Circle, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Rileyville, Va., she was the daughter of the late John D. and Ollie Mae Miller Huffman.

She was a 1930 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and the Iris Club. She also was active in her church and the YMCA in earlier years.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John W. Jones; two sons, J. Christopher Jones of Fairport, N.Y., and Timothy W. Jones of Lancaster; and three grandsons.

Arrangements are by Fred F. Groff Inc. Funeral Services, 234 W. Orange St., Lancaster.

Alice F. Miller

ROUND HILL, Va. - Alice Faye Miller, 45, of Round Hill, and formerly of Charles Town, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at her home.

Born Feb. 7, 1952, in Leesburg, Va., she was the daughter of Anna E. Clatterbuck of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and the late John Rex Miller.

She was employed as a dietary manager by Knott Nursing Home, Charles Town.

She attended Loudoun Valley Church of the Nazarene.

She was a member of Dietary Managers Association.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Candy Miller of Round Hill; one son, James Miller of Charles Town; two sisters, Barbara Lee Howard of Hagerstown and Sylvia Ann McKinney of Harpers Ferry; five brothers, Robert E. Miller of Leesburg, Va., William Miller of Marion, Va., Thomas L. Miller of Harpers Ferry, Harry A. Miller of Hagerstown and James F. Miller of Round Hill; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Athan Burch and the Rev. Franklin Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Knott Nursing Home, 115 W. Congress St., Charles Town, W.Va. 25414.

Donald L. Thompson

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Donald Lee "D.T." Thompson, 48, of 119 North St., died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 11, 1949, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Ruth Thompson Roberts of Sharpsburg. Early in life he lived in Hagerstown and Leitersburg. He was raised by his late grandparents, Claire and May Lowman Thompson.

He was by Regency Thermographers, Waynesboro, and worked 13 years for the Waynesboro Construction Co. He later was co-owner and co-operator of the Royer and Thompson Construction Co. in Waynesboro. He later worked as a self-employed contractor. He most recently was employed by Gruber Builders and Restoration, Williamsport.

He was a member of Order of the Owls Nest 1073 and Eagles Club Inc., both of Waynesboro. He was an outdoorsman.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Dustin L. Thompson of Waynesboro; one half-sister, Donna Robertson of Marlowe, W.Va.; seven half-brothers, Rodney Roberts, Bret Roberts and William Roberts, all of Sharpsburg, Bart Roberts of Williamsport, Ernie Roberts of Smithsburg, Woodrow Roberts of Hagerstown and Jeffery Roberts of Marlowe; one granddaughter; two aunts; one uncle; and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Alan N. Clingan will officiate.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematory, Waynesboro.

Marie A. Smith

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Marie Alice Smith, 70, of 4453 Gary Way, died of heart failure Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at Methodist Hospital, in Houston.

Born Jan. 27, 1927, in Portertown, Md., she was the daughter of the late David Lee and Mae Ruth Lumm Keyfauver. She lived her early life in the Keedysville area.

She was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, in the electrical department for 24 years. She retired on disability in 1985.

She was a member of the Zullinger, Pa., congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

She is survived by her husband, Harry E. Smith III; one son, Dennis Keyfauver of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Jean Snyder of Oceanside, Calif., and Goldie Fries of St. Thomas, Pa.; five brothers, Ellis Keyfauver of Sharpsburg, Frank Keyfauver of Mesa, Ariz., Austin Keyfauver of Cheyenne, Wyo., Robert Slick of Hagerstown and Harry Keyfauver of Afton, Wyo.; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Greggi and H. Louise Thomas.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
