Maxine H. Martin
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Maxine H. Martin, 72, of 200 N. Main St., and formerly of St. Thomas, Pa., died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at her home.
Born Aug. 8, 1925, in Leidig, Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Leslie and Mary Newman Garland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Benjamin Martin, in 1988.
She was a employed by Knouse Foods for many years and retired as an inspector.
She was a 46-year-member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church.
She was active at Chambersburg and Fort Loudon senior centers.
She is survived by two sons, Parker E. Martin of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Rodney L. Martin of Smithsburg; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul F. Crawford Jr. will officiate. Burial will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wolfsville, Md.
Visitation will be at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.

May C.H. Baer
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - May C. Hess Baer, 93, a resident at Penn Hall Nursing Center, and formerly of 4848 Molly Pitcher Highway, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at Penn Hall Nursing Center.
Born Sept. 27, 1904, in Marion, Pa., she was the daughter of the late A.L. and Hettie K. Horst Hess.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry S. Baer, in 1989.
She had been employed at the former Dixie Restaurant, Kauffman, Pa., and also in the dietary department of Chambersburg Hospital.
She was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ, Marion. She had been active in various church activities in her early years at the church.
She is survived by three sons, Henry H. Baer and Lowell S. Baer, both of Chambersburg, and Leon R. Baer of Greencastle, Pa.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John D. Bonebreak and the Rev. Darrell Baer will officiate. Burial will be in Marion Mennonite Church Cemetery, Marion.
Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to the service.

Robert L. Fox Sr.
Retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Robert Lee Fox Sr., 68, of 16909 Warbler Court, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at his home.
Born March 21, 1929, in Elkins, W.Va., he was the son of the late Martin Everett Fox and Ethel Josephine Thomas Fox Weese.
He retired from the U.S. Army in 1968. He was in the first class to graduate from the U.S. Army Artillery and Missile School, Fort Sill, Okla., in 1958. He served seven years in Germany as a Hawk radar maintenance technician with the 2nd Battalion 333rd Artillery. He served one year in Taiwan as a military adviser with the Guided Missile Advisory Group. He received several commendations from the MAAG Republic of China, received five Good Conduct Medals and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed by General Motors Parts Division in Martinsburg, W.Va., and retired in 1987.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1936 and DAV Chapter 14, Hagerstown; member of Red Men Williamsport Post 84 and Moose Lodge 1483, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Jean Seilhamer Fox; one daughter, Brenda Jo Hughes of Hagerstown; two sons, Robert Lee Fox Jr. and Donald Martin Fox, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Emily Brambly of Crystal Springs, Pa., and Luveria O'Rourke of Breezewood, Pa.; three brothers, Fred Fox of Cleveland, Leonard Fox of Crystal Springs and Dorsey Fox of Everett, Pa.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Letitia Lahman.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John C. Koontz Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Shirley G.B. Osborne
Shirley Genva Bowers Osborne, 93, of 21619 Black Rock Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village, Boonsboro.
Born Feb. 2, 1904, in Beaver Creek, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Carrie E. Fulton Bowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry E. Osborne.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Black Rock Bible Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by one son, Jack E. Osborne of Hagerstown; four sisters, Irene L. Snyder and Helen L. Stouffer, both of Hagerstown, Ethel M. Newcomer of Kentucky and Miriam W. Haden of Sun City, Ariz.; two brothers, George F. Bowers and Sterrling L. Bowers, both of Hagerstown; one granddaughter; one grandson; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Flora E. Bowers and Ruth N. Kendall; and three brothers, Arthur F. Bowers, David J. Bowers and Charles L. Bowers.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Black Rock Bible Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Paul W. Heefner and the Rev. Dwight Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
M. Mae Johnson
HANCOCK - M. Mae Johnson, 85, of Fleming Drive, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born March 24, 1912, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Albert Roy and Dessie Lynch Wink.
Her first husband, Alonza E. Brakeall, died in 1955.
Her second husband, David C. Johnson, died in 1983.
She retired from the former Silco in Hancock, where she was a manager.
She was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Hancock.
She is survived by one daughter, Flossie E. Everts of Warfordsburg, Pa.; one son, Edward Otis Brakeall of Hancock; two stepsons, David G. Johnson and Rudd Johnson, both of Johnstown, Pa.; one brother, Carl C. Wink of Hancock; four grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and a number of step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Jill Johnson Moors; one sister, Ada V. Eader; and one brother, George A. Wink.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St., Hancock. The Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Cemetery
in Needmore, Pa.
Friends will be received at the church parish hall after the service and burial in the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St., Hancock, Md. 21750.

Clarence H. Anderson
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Clarence H. "Junior" Anderson, 70, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Dec. 29, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the son of Nannie Ellen Mason Anderson of Berkeley Springs and the late Clarence Henry Anderson Sr.
He attended Spohrs Crossroads School, Morgan County, W.Va.
He was employed by the B&O Railroad in the Hancock station during the late 1940s. He then worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, beginning in the 1950s. He also worked with the West Virginia Department of Highways, Berkeley Springs, in 1974. He worked at Mack Trucks, Hagerstown, from 1974 until his retirement due to disability in 1985. He also worked with several contractors, including the construction of the General Motors plant in Martinsburg.
He was a member of Berkeley Springs Church of Christ.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 45 years, LeEsta Rankin Anderson; three daughters, Karen Darlene Anderson and Shari Robin Brown, both of Berkeley Springs, and Janice Diane Payne of Falls Church, Va.; one sister, Goldie Marie Hovermale of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Charles Glendon Anderson of Berkeley Springs; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Berkeley Springs Church of Christ, 509 S. Green St., Berkeley Springs. Edwin Floyd, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery, Morgan County.
The family will receive friends at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Kathryn L. Daugherty
BLUEFIELD, Va. - Kathryn L. Daugherty, 86, of Westwood Health Care Center, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997 in Bluefield.
Born Aug. 13, 1911, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Daisy I. Harr Beard.
Her husband, Lewis S. Daugherty, preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Kathryn Watson Burton of Bluefield;; one brother, Harry L. Beard of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three granddaughters, Kathy B. Wilson of Covington, Va., Rebecca B. Kersey and Elizabeth J. Burton, both of Bluefield; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William C. Beard and Marshall V. Beard.
A memorial service and burial will be Monday at Rest Haven Cemetery
in Hagerstown.

Ethel B. Stouffer
MARION, Pa. - Ethel B. Stouffer, 84, of Marion, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at the home of her daughter, Louise E. Payne, 5042 Main St., Marion.
Born Dec. 12, 1912, in Quincy Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ambrose R. and Mary Alice Binkley Wagaman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther H. Stouffer, in 1993.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Harbor Light Temple, Chambersburg, Pa.
She is survived by three daughters, Louise E. Payne and Gladys R. Hill, both of Marion, and Ruby M. Stouffer of Chambersburg ; two sons, Wayne L. Stouffer and Joseph Wagaman, both of Waynesboro, Pa.; three sisters, Ada Stouffer of Clay Hill, Pa., Ruth Snider of Chambersburg, and Louise Heckman of St. Thomas, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister; three brothers; and a great-grandson.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Walter G. Smith and the Rev. Daniel H. Kelchner will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Gladys P. Taylor
SHARPSBURG - Gladys Pauline Taylor, 92, of 2313 Dargan Road, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1905, in Pleasantville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles Augustus and Anna Sylvia Snyder Peacher.
She was employed by Maryland Ribbon Co. until her retirement in 1973. She was also employed by Fairchild Aircraft Corp.
She was a member of Samples Manor Church of God.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane L. McGowan and Mary Lou Grim, both of Dargan; one son, Dallas W. Taylor of San Diego; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Peacher, Vernon Peacher, Lewis Peacher and Paul Peacher.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Samples Manor Cemetery, 2430 Chestnut Grove Road, Dargan. The Rev. Ernest E. Witmer will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
