Jean L. Wilhide
MAUGANSVILLE - Jean L. Wilhide, 75, of 14109 Maugansville Road, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at her home.
Born Oct. 25, 1921, in Maugansville, she was the daughter of the late Clyde O. and Orpha G. Glesner Morningstar.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Buck" Wilhide, in 1996.
She was employed by Ward Leonard Corp. and The Bon Ton.
She was a member of Salem Reformed Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna K. McCauley of Hagerstown; one son, C. Michael Wilhide of Hagerstown; two sisters, Virginia Chambliss of Sarasota, Fla., and Rhae Keadle of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Clark Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services Thursday.
Delbert H. Davisson
FAIRFIELD, Pa. - Delbert Harold "Dave" Davisson, 80, of 544 Harbaugh Valley Road, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 29, 1917, in Lewis County, W.Va.
He retired from Fort Detrick, Frederick Md., where he was employed for more than 40 years. In his younger years, he was employed by East End Service Station in Thurmont, Md.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Edwin C. Creeger Jr. Post 168 American Legion, Thurmont.
He is survived by an aunt, Mary G. Smith of Elkins, W.Va.; a special friend, Catherine Sounders of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, Thurmont. The Rev. Terry Folk will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 3 to 9 p.m.
Erma B. Sanders
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Erma Beatrice Sanders, 84, of Charles Town, and formerly of Livingston, Texas, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at the home of her son, Marvin Sanders.
Born Feb. 17, 1913, in Joplin, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Homer Jack and Rosa Etta Jones Snow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lawrence Sanders, in 1996.
She was a retired seamstress for Joe Franks of Houston.
She was of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Eva Faye Cumbow of Livingston; two sons, Marvin L. Sanders of Charles Town and Billy L. Sanders of Lindale, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Hill; and one grandson.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Cochran Funeral home, Livingston. The Rev. Areola will officiate. Burial will be in Pebbles Cemetery, Goodrich, Texas.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles A. Frazier
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Charles Alan Frazier, 35, of 90 N. Main St., died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Born Aug. 29, 1962, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Odell M. Frazier. In his early life, he lived in the Hagerstown and Chambersburg areas.
He was a 1980 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1981 to 1984.
He was employed for various local businesses.
In his early life, he attended Antrim Faith Baptist Church, Waynesboro, Pa.
He is survived by two daughters, Carrie Frazier and Tiffany Frazier, both of North Carolina; two sisters, Rebecca L. Gilbert of Mississippi and Susan D. Lowans of Waynesboro; one brother, Kenneth L. Frazier of Chambersburg; four nieces; and one nephew.
Private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematory, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
Laura V. Kountz
Laura Virginia Kountz, 89, of 1186 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at her home.
Born April 12, 1908, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Fred H. and Laura B. Brandenburg Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Kountz, in 1968.
She owned and operated Elm Tree Kennels for 28 years and retired in 1968. Prior, she was employed by Meyers and Berkson Furniture Co. and Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
She was a charter member of Mason Dixon Kennel Club.
She was the last of immediate family.
She is survived by one cousin, Dale C. Hicks of Martinsburg.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David B. Kaplan will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Dale F. Staubs
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Dale Franklin Staubs, 64, of Charles Town, and formerly of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at her home.
Born March 10, 1933, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert Carroll and Leona Pearl Everhart Staubs.
His wife, Nina Lorraine Sagle Staubs, died in 1973.
He was a graduate of Harpers Ferry High School.
He was a retired maintenance worker with Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
He served with the U.S. Army.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1136 in Brunswick, Md., Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948 and Jacksons-Perks Post 71 of the American Legion, both in Charles Town.
He is survived by three daughters, Brenda Hooper and Terry Smallwood, both of Charles Town, Linda Young of Knoxville; one sister, Eva Stoneberger of Harpers Ferry; one brother, Floyd L. Staubs of Harpers Ferry; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Ballenger, Dorothy Rutherford, and Geraldine Staubs; and five brothers, Leftridge Staubs, Patrick Staubs, Harding Staubs, Charles Staubs and Edward Staubs.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Samples Manor Church of God in Samples Manor. The Rev. Russell W. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Samples Manor Cemetery
in Samples Manor.

Mary J. McDaniel
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Mary Joan McDaniel, 56, of Charles Town, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born June 23, 1941, in Ranson, she was the daughter of the late Robert B. and Mary "Hun" Whitmore Ballenger.
She was a 1959 graduate of Charles Town High School.
She was employed for 18 years by 7-Eleven, Ranson.
She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, Ranson.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Herbert G. "Herbie" McDaniel Sr.; one daughter, Carla D. Kelican of New Oxford, Pa.; one son, Herbert G. McDaniel Jr. of Charles Town; two brothers, Norman Ballenger and Donald Ballenger, both of Charles Town; three grandchildren; 19 nieces; 20 nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Ballenger; and two brothers, Burwell "Buddy" Ballenger and Robert Ballenger.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church, Ranson. The Rev. William Reed and the Rev. Lee Robertson will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

Layton L. Coy
Layton Leroy Coy, 70, of 15920 National Pike, Hagerstown, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at his home.
Born July 8, 1927, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey F. and Cora M. Carey Coy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene McCauley Sprecher Coy, in 1991.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa. He then was employed by Hagerstown Speedway.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on USS Monongahela, USS Shasta and USS Pecatonica. He was discharged in 1960 and was an engineman second class.
He was a life member of VFW Post 6241, Mercersburg, Pa.; member of American Legion Joseph C. Herbert Post 222, Clear Spring; Moose Lodge 1790, Mercersburg; past president and secretary of Wilson Ruritan, Hagerstown; member of Medairy Lodge 140, Williamsport, since 1962; NRA; Washington County Street Rods; and Hagerstown Speedway.
He is survived by one daughter, Lucinda L. Beard of Boonsboro; one son, Allen Beard, at home; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Dyarman, Sarah Ostera and Violet Clough; and four brothers, George Coy, Fred Coy, James Coy and Ernest Coy.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Clear Spring. The Rev. Richard P. Yates will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Edna H. Merrill
KEYSER, W.Va. - Edna H. Merrill, 88, of Route 2, Box 19-F, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, Md.
Born March 13, 1909, in Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Maude A. Greenwalt Kline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse E. Merrill.
She was a retired lathe operator, with 27 years of service, at Fairchild Aircraft Industries, Hagerstown; and was formerly employed with Dunkin Donuts, Hagerstown.
She was a member of Chapter 738, Women of the Moose, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Ladies Auxiliary of Keyser Volunteer Fire Department; Ladies Auxiliary of Post 200, American Legion, Satellite Beach, Fla.; Ladies Auxiliary of Post 4643, VFW, Satellite Beach; Ladies Auxiliary of Aerie 1758, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Waynesboro, Pa.; and the AARP.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Churchey of Keyser, and Jerri Lee Stanley of Melbourne, Fla.; three sisters, Virginia McMasters, Magdalene Green, and Avis Jones, all of Hagerstown; one brother, Junior L. Kline of Hagerstown; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.
At her request, there will be no public viewing or funeral service.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser.
