Iva S. Martin

Iva S. Martin, 78, a resident of Mennonite Fellowship Home, 12349 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at the home.

Born May 11, 1919, near Reid, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ira D. and Mary A. Eshleman Martin.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church.

She is survived by her husband, Abel E. Martin, also a resident of Mennonite Fellowship Home, whom she married Dec. 21, 1940; one daughter, Dorcas E. Horst of Hagerstown; three sons, Dr. Enos D. Martin of Elizabethtown, Pa., Truman E. Martin and Joseph E. Martin, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Miriam A. Oberholzer of Maugansville; one brother, J. Leon Martin of New Jersey; 30 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Martin; one brother, Eston D. Martin; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church, 12403 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown. Ministers Maurice Martin, Landis Martin and Jacob Byers will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, today from 6 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Roscoe T. Cain

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Roscoe Tobias Cain, 69, of Berkeley Springs, died on Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at the home of his companion, Anna R. Michael.

Born Jan. 5, 1928, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Harley Wesley and Edna P. Merchant Cain.

He had been employed as a school bus driver in Morgan County, W.Va., for several years. He also was employed at Southern States in Hancock as an oil burner repairman; and in later years was self-employed.

He was a member of Johnsontown Bible Church, Hedgesville, W.Va.

He is survived by his companion, of 14 years, Anna R. Michael, at home; four daughters, Nancy A. Spielman, Linda K. Stotler, and Evelene Virginia Rhodes, all of Berkeley Springs, and Doris Jean Finn of Wilmington, N.C.; two sons, James L. Householder and Lenue Tobias Cain, both of Berkeley Springs; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. Pastor Jack Rudy will officiate.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, U.S. 522 South, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

John D. Benson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John D. Benson, 52, of 323 Warm Spring Road, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Jan. 17, 1945, in Kittanning, Pa., he was the son of the late Hiram and Florence G. Bell Benson.

He was a janitor with the Armstrong School District prior to his illness.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Condron Benson, whom he married June 15, 1968; three daughters, Donna Barber of Fort Loudon, Pa., and Sandy Benson and Amanda Benson, both of Chambersburg; two sisters, Louise Bell of Westminster, Md., and Evelyn Jewell of Rural Valley, Pa.; one brother, Thomas Benson of Gibsonville, N.C.; one granddaughter; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Frank Benson.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West in St. Thomas. The Rev. Bob Verno will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

William G. Collum

HANCOCK - William Garfield Collum, 67, of Hancock, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at his home.

Born Nov. 10, 1929, in Webster County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Carl William and Myrtle Irene Davisson Collum.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1962.

Following his military career, he founded and operated Montgomery Motors Inc. in Gaithersburg, Md. The business expanded to include recreational vehicles and, from the early 1970s until his death, he actively served as president of Triangle Outdoor World, Frederick, Md.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post 26, Hancock.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Trudy Scheiner Collum; two sisters, Susan C. Crumett of Burke, Va., and Wanda C. Lewark of Fairfax, Va.; three nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Edward Collum.

Private graveside services will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Salem, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hancock Rescue Squad, 57 E. Main St., Hancock, Md. 21750; or Hancock Volunteer Fire Co., 3 Fulton St., Hancock, Md. 21750.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

William P. Ruggiero

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William P. Ruggiero, 77, of 427 S. Seventh St., died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at 480 NE 47th St., Pompano Beach, Fla.

Born April 26, 1920, in St. Salvatore, Italy, he was the son of the late Albert and Pagqualina Donofrio Ruggiero.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Grogan Ruggiero, in 1979.

He was a logistics officer with the U.S. Army Materiel Command Logistics Systems Support Agency at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, retiring in 1972. In 1979, he began training race horses at Charleston, W.Va., and continued to do so until April of this year. Prior to being employed at Letterkenny, he had been employed at the Mt. Rainier Ordinance Depot, Tacoma, Wash., until being transferred to Letterkenny in 1963.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a life member of BPO Elks Lodge 600, Chambersburg; life member of Chambersburg Club; member of Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission; and Horseman's Association of Charleston.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Shimer Ruggiero, whom he married on Jan. 5, 1990; two daughters, Patricia A. Sites of Chambersburg and Geraldine A. Gipe of Fayetteville, Pa.; one sister, Inez Keller of Freehold, N.J.; two brothers, Morris Ruggiero of New Jersey and Richard Ruggiero of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive; or to Cancer Treatment Center, c/o Chambersburg Hospital Health Services, 260 North Seventh St., both of Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Harold L. Chamblin Jr.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Harold Livingston "Sonny" Chamblin Jr., 49, of Charles Town, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born Sept. 4, 1948, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Harold L. and Dorothy Elizabeth Gayhart Chamblin Sr. of Charles Town.

He was a 1966 graduate of Charles Town High School; and a graduate of Shepherd College with a double major in music and business administration. He received his master of administration degree from West Virginia University.

He served 25 years as the vocal music instructor at Jefferson High School. He formed and directed the Jefferson High School Pop Singers and taught photography at Jefferson High School. Under his direction, the Jefferson High School Pop Singers received numerous awards and honors. In 1984, the Jefferson High School Pop Singers received the West Virginia State Show Choir Championship Award.

He was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church, Charles Town.

He is survived by one sister, Susan Chamblin-Burston of New South Wales, Australia; one brother, Richard Lee Chamblin of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three nieces; and one nephew.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Charles Town Baptist Church, Charles Town. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson Vocal Music Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 220, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va. 25442.

Lillian Porterfield

Lillian "Queenie" Porterfield, 94, of 42 McKee Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 10, 1903, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ott.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dyson Burnett; and her second husband, Raymond S. Porterfield.

She was employed by the Bank of Charles Town for 20 years. After moving to Hagerstown, she worked part time for the Washington County Tax Office. She then became a bank teller at Hagerstown Bank and Trust Co. for 18 years. She retired in 1973.

She was a member of Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown. She taught Sunday school for many years and served on various committees.

She is survived by one son, Bob Porterfield of Hampstead, Md.; two grandsons, Tim Porterfield and Toby Porterfield; and two great-grandsons.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Ailstock and the Rev. Joseph Porterfield will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown, 20 S. Prospect St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Linda C. Davis

Linda Carol Davis, 48, of 401 Highland Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 6, 1949, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Sarah Carey Watkins of Colorado Springs, Colo., and the late Horace Nelson.

She was employed by Citicorp.

She was baptized at Asbury Methodist Church, Hillsboro, Va.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Honey Marshall of Martinsburg, W.Va.; five sons, Gerald Davis and Christopher Davis, both of Hagerstown, Wallace Davis and Christopher Marshall, both of Martinsburg, and Moe Davis of Virginia; three sisters, Debra Trammell of Fort Collins, Colo., Senora Jenks and Melissa Moss, both of Colorado Springs; five brothers, Thomas Nelson, Edgar Watkins and Sylvester Watkins, all of Colorado Springs, Michael Nelson of Winchester, Va., and Dwayne Watkins of Denver; 13 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Marshall Watkins; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John Allen and the Rev. Edgar Carey will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Peter R. Dominguez-Llamas

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Peter Ray Dominguez-Llamas, 34, of Route 5, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, in City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Jan. 19, 1963, in Gary, Ind., he was the son of Johnny E. Dominguez of Griffith, and Jeannette Drlich Llamas of Churubusco, Ind., and the stepson of Norma Dominquez of Griffith.

He was employed as a delivery and repairman for Dutch Brothers Furniture.

He served in the U.S. Marines Reserves.

He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120 and Loyal Order of Moose.

In addition to his parents and stepmother, he is survived by one sister, Sharon Llamas of Matteson, Ill.; one brother, John Llamas of Churubusco; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

A memorial service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Burial will be private.

Mary L. Daley

Mary L. Daley, 91, of Colton Villa Nursing Center, and formerly of 648 N. Prospect St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at the nursing center.

Born Jan. 12, 1906, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late William and Hattie Yost.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Oscar Daley, in 1985.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, William E. Daley Sr. of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Hutzell of Hagerstown; one grandson, William E. Daley Jr. of Hagerstown; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by three daughters, Ella Smith, Ruth Shaw and Emma King; and one son, Raymond Yost.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

At her request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Arrangements are by Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
