Louise R. Pringle

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Louise Riddleberger Pringle, 90, of 710 West Liberty St., died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at her home.

Born Oct. 7, 1907, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Sadie Kingan Riddleberger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Pringle, in 1977.

She and her husband owned and operated Riddleberger's Store in Charles Town for many years.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town.

She was a former member of Jefferson County Republican Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Louise "Billie" Propps of Charles Town; one son, William H. Pringle of Charles Town; one sister, Cecelia McBride of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond W. Riddleberger.

Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. at her residence, 710 W. Liberty St., Charles Town.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the organization or charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

Rikki I. Davis

Rikki I. Davis, 54, of 1204 Carroll Heights Blvd., died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 17, 1943, in Bath, N.Y., she was the daughter of Mary French Peacock, of Hagerstown and the late Percy Kenneth Peacock.

She specialized in free-lance artistry.

She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Hagerstown.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Russell Davis of Hagerstown; two sons, Scott Ireland of Pawhuska, Okla. and Robert Davis of Gaithersburg, Md.; two sisters, Linda Spann and Paula Naylor, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Chris Peacock of Greenwood, Ind.; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and one grandniece.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Peacock; and a brother, Edward Peacock.

A memorial service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Seventh-day Adventist Church, 11507 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown. Pastor Tim Roosenberg will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seventh-day Adventist Church, P.O. Box 1457, Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or American Heart Association, 322-324 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

John S. Knepp

John Shannon Knepp, 75, of 18320 Rench Road, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 30, 1922, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late George H. and Phoebe Coleman Knepp.

He was employed with the Maryland State Highway Administration for 39 years, retiring in 1983.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II in the South Pacific.

He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

He was a member of American Legion, Dixon Troxell Post 211 of Funkstown; VFW Post 6025, Mount Savage, Md.; BPO Elks Lodge 470 of Frostburg; Masonic Kemp Lodge 154, Mount Savage; Scottish Rite and Ali Ghan of Cumberland; Hagerstown Shrine; Mercersburg Sportsmen's Club; Eagles of Waynesboro, Pa.; and Redmen of Conococheague Tribe 84.

He is survived by his wife, Helen B. Knepp; one son, John B. Knepp of San Jose, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Johnson and Marguerite Lashley.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg. The Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Cemetery, Corriganville, Md.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown; and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg. There will be a Masonic service Monday at 7 p.m. at Durst Funeral Home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church, 17805 Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, Md. 21713.

Carl V. Smith

Carl Vernon Smith, 82, of 822 Lanvale St., died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at his home.

Born Dec. 18, 1914, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Vernon N. and Ida M. Kriner Smith.

He was employed in flooring and tilework with Jones Flooring and Hoffman Flooring. He was previously employed with Hagerstown Shoe Co. for 10 years.

He served in the U.S. Army, Co. B, 35th Armored Infantry Division. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Unit Award, the American Theater Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. He served in the campaigns of the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was wounded in Belgium and Germany.

He was a member of Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Idella Shank Smith; two daughters, Carla M. Sweeney of Hagerstown and Sherry J. Hays of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Carter, Mable Clippenger, and Margaret Young; three brothers, Donald Smith, Earl Smith and Harold Smith; and a grandson, Douglas M. Sweeney.

Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Betty D. Jones will officiate.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Frances L. Bennett

INWOOD, W.Va. - Frances Lucille Bennett, 70, of Route 2, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Sept. 17, 1927, in Ridgeway, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Susie McFillin Barrow.

She attended the House of the Lord.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald H. Bennett, at home; two daughters, Linda L. Leonard of Martinsburg and Kitty S. Horner of Inwood; a son, Randy L. Stewart of Inwood; three brothers, Max Barrow of Ranson, W.Va., Paul Douglas Barrow of Inwood, and Fred Barrow of Martinsburg; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Mary Barrow and Helen Mae Barrow; and three brothers, Kenneth W. Barrow, Marion Barrow and Robert E. Barrow.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Austin J. Caplinger will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hilda M. Bailey

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Hilda M. Bailey, 58, of Hedgesville, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at her home.

Born Nov. 12, 1938, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of Beulah Hite Anderson of Route 5, Martinsburg, W.Va., and the late Lee Anderson.

She was employed at Perfection Garment Co. for 25 years.

She was a member of Wesleyan Bible Chapel.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Robert L. Bailey, at home, whom she married March 30, 1957; a daughter, Darlene Bailey Kesecker of Hedgesville; a son, Allen Dean Bailey of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Joyce Miller and Eleanor Vance, both of Martinsburg; three brothers, Danny Anderson of Hedgesville, Richard Anderson and Tim R. Anderson, both of Martinsburg; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth E. Anderson.

A memorial service will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Bennie T. Durr will officiate. Burial will be private.

Walter F. Misner

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Walter Francis Misner, 83, of 208B Elder Ave., died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Quincy United Methodist Home.

Born Nov. 11, 1913, in Tomstown, Pa., he was the son of the late Almay and Rebecca Welsh Misner.

He attended Quincy area schools.

In his early years, he worked on a farm and then he worked as an electrician. He worked most of his life as an orderly at many of the area's hospitals. He last worked for Waynesboro School District as a janitor at Waynesboro Area High School, retiring in 1976.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, joining in 1947.

He is survived by his wife, Ina Gardenhour Misner of Quincy, Pa., whom he married Nov. 25, 1933; one daughter, Frances Tate of Waynesboro, three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is the last of his immediate family.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, corner of South Church and West Second Streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Roger Cales will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the funeral services.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

John W. Fitz Jr.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - John William Fitz Jr., 77, of 14324 Harbaugh Church Road, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, in Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1920, in Washington Township, Franklin County, Pa. on the family farm, he was the son of the late John W. Sr. and Nora B. Hess Fitz.

He was a 1938 graduate of Washington Township High School.

He worked on the family farm in his early life; he then worked at Beck and Benedict Hardware, Waynesboro; L.E. Beck and Sons, Greencastle, Pa. He worked at Frick Co., Waynesboro, for 15 years as a stockroom clerk, leaving in 1983. Prior to retiring in 1993, he worked in the maintenance department at Sears in Hagerstown for five years. He also was the Harbaugh Church Cemetery caretaker for more than 30 years.

He was a member of the former Harbaugh Reformed Church near Rouzerville, Pa., where he served as Sunday School superintendent, taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and served on the consistory. He was a member of Incarnation United Church of Christ, Emmitsburg, Md., where he sang on the church choir and served on the consistory.

He is survived by his wife, Leone R. Martin Fitz, whom he married on Oct. 24, 1943; one son, Richard W. Fitz of Chambersburg, Pa.; three sisters, Fannie Harbaugh of Rouzerville, Arlene Patterson of Waynesboro and Jennie Harbaugh of Greencastle, Pa.; two brothers, Andrew Fitz and Ralph Fitz, both of Waynesboro, four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth L. Fitz; two half sisters, Ruth Heffner and Naomi Carson; and one half brother, Merle Fitz.

Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Harbaugh Reformed Church on Harbaugh Church Road, near Rouzerville. The Rev. Sharon Forbes and the Rev. Thomas Burns will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 South Broad St., Waynesboro.

Memorial contributions may be made to Incarnation United Church of Christ, 124 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, Md. 21727; or Dr. John R. Marsh Cancer Fund, c/o Washington County Hospital, 251 East Antietam St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Mabel B. Miller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mabel B. Miller, 83, a resident of Menno-Haven, and formerly of 14586 Locust Level Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at Menno-Haven.

Born Feb. 1, 1914, near Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Horatio and Susan Elizabeth Johnson Stouffer.

Her husband, J.T. Miller, died in 1993.

She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm.

She was a lifelong member of Upton Church of the Brethren, where she was former president of the Ladies Aid Society of the church.

She also was a former member of Franklin County Farm Womens Group.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Louise Hykes and Darlene Ball, both of Greencastle; two sons, J. Donald Miller of Greencastle, and Richard S. Miller of Mercersburg; one sister, Ruth Grove of Mercersburg; one brother, Howard H. Stouffer of Greencastle; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Angle; and three brothers, J. Luther Stouffer, Paul Stouffer and Fred Stouffer.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Upton Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Kenneth Frey and the Rev. Roy Hawbaker will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be made to Camp Joy-El, 3741 Joy-El Drive, Greencastle, Pa. 17225; or to Menno-Haven Auxiliary, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
