Mabel J. Hornbecker
SMITHSBURG - Mabel J. Hornbecker, 84, of 24 Grove Creek Circle, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at her home.
Born in Keymar, Md., she was the daughter of the late George C. and Maude J. Stahl Naylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. Hornbecker, in 1981.
She retired from Fairchild Aircraft after 37 years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Smithsburg, where she was a member of Wednesday Circle.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of North American Rod and Gun Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Virginia J. Lindsay of Smithsburg; one son, Thomas E. Hornbecker of Smithsburg; one sister, Anna Sullivan of Providence, R.I.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles R. Hornbecker.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. F. Mark Walters will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday 30 minutes prior to the services at the funeral home.

Donna L. Stipe
Donna Lee Wagaman Stipe, 48, of 11106 Shadybrook Court, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Oct. 12, 1949, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Elvin C. and Margaret M. Peiffer Wagaman, of Mont Alto, Pa.
She was a 1969 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.
She made baked goods to give to others.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Carl J. Stipe Jr., whom she married May 27, 1983; two daughters, Kimberly S. Sheffler of Waynesboro, and Hope M. Duble of Grapevine, Texas; one son, Samuel H. Waters Jr. of Arendtsville, Pa.; two sisters, Carol Foose and Ellen Kinley, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, Joel Wagaman of Waynesboro and Brian Wagaman of Harrisburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Waynesboro Bible Church, 8216 Stottlemyer Road, Waynesboro. Pastor Robert Fitz will officiate.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
Anna K. Newcomer
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Anna K. Rock Newcomer, 89, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 8117 Mentzer Gap Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born May 27, 1908, in Quincy, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Calvin S. and Elizabeth Monn Rock.
She attended Quincy Schools.
She worked at Mont Alto Shirt Factory and Mont Alto Shoe Factory.
She was a member of Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, where she belonged to Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
She was a former member of Women of the Moose Lodge 1191, Waynesboro, where she went through all chairs.
She is survived by her husband, Robert R. Newcomer, whom she married Dec. 24, 1928; and two sons, Donald R. Newcomer and Ardon L. Newcomer, both of Waynesboro.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ardon "Ted" Rock.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Jaye M. Bartle will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruthellen F. Shillinger
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ruthellen F. Shillinger, 68, of 1318 W. King St., and formerly of 1410 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville, Va.
Born in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Virginia M. Boemermann Fitzgerald.
She majored in music at Peabody Conservatory and was a nursing student at Women's Hospital in Baltimore, Md.
She was a teacher's aide at St. Joseph's School in Martinsburg.
While a resident in Hagerstown, she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Frederick W. Shillinger; three daughters, Dr. Kathleen E. Culler of Hopkinton, Mass., Freda Shillinger Sutton of Evergreen, Colo., and Dr. Amy Shillinger Capps of Staunton, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Monsignor Robert S. Passarelli will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

E. Pauline Bell
LEITERSBURG - E. Pauline Huff Bell, 87, a resident of Ravenwood Lutheran Nursing Home, Hagerstown, formerly of Leitersburg, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born June 26, 1910, in Spotsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of the late William M. and Olive Ponten Huff Sr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin A. Bell Sr., in 1985. They were married in October 1932.
She was employed, for 14 years, by the former G.W. Pryor Co., a printing company in Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leitersburg, where she served on various committees, and was a member of the church Altar Guild.
She was a member of Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Co., and Leitersburg Elementary School PTA.
She is survived by one daughter, Nadine Annette Patonai of Venice, Fla.; one son, Franklin A. Bell Jr. of Dunkirk, Md.; one brother, William M. Huff Jr. of Coseytown, Pa.; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Louring F. Huff, Walter J. Huff, Willis E. Huff, and Harry C. Huff.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 21513 Leitersburg-Smithsburg Road, Leitersburg. The Rev. Lans E. Alexis will officiate. Burial will be in Leitersburg Lutheran Cemetery.

John F. Mellott
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - John F. Mellott, 95, of HCR 75, Box 57, and recently a resident of Extended Care Unit of Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at the medical center.
Born July 31, 1902, in Ayr Township, Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of the late Bert and Glenna Mellott Mellott.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella Maude Hann Mellott, in 1989.
He was a sawmiller and thresherman in the area for many years. He was self-employed.
He was a member of Freedom Worship Center.
He was a lifetime member of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by three daughters, Goldie Henry and Esta Pittman, both of McConnellsburg, and Dolly Keith of Chambersburg, Pa.; four sons, Preston Mellott, Frank Mellott, and Stanley Mellott, all of McConnellsburg, and Chalmer Mellott of Hustontown, Pa.; one sister, Sylvia Culler of Fayetteville, Pa.; one brother, Blair Mellott of Chambersburg; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Lee Mellott and James Mellott; one sister, Abby Tritle; two brothers, Lewis Mellott and Rankin Mellott; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kevin Wade and Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.
The family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Monday. The church will be open Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m.

Isabel M. Holland
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Isabel M. Holland, 70, of 611 S. Coldbrook Ave., died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at her home.
Born Oct. 19, 1927, in Bellwood, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Fred E. and Pearl E. Shunk Snyder.
She was a 1945 graduate of Bellwood High School, Bellwood, Pa. and a graduate of Altoona School of Commerce, Altoona, Pa.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, where she had served on Church Council, Social Ministry Committee and was a member of Lutheran Church Women.
She was a member and past president of Auxiliary of the Pennsylvania Prison Warden's Association.
She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Holland; three daughters, Constance M. Cullison of Fayetteville, Pa., Beth L. Holland of Chambersburg and Alicia L. Holland of Lancaster, Pa.; three sons, Robert C. Holland II of Orrtanna, Pa., Kimberling E. Holland and Matthew K. Holland, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Kenneth E. Snyder of Hawthorne, N.J.; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Miller Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Warren C. Heintzelman Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg; and Sunday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Harry S. Rowe
Harry S. "Snub" Rowe, 85, of Daycotah Avenue, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 22, 1912, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Ruth Elizabeth Russell Rowe.
He retired from Hagerstown Shoe Co.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
In his early years, he was a well-known baseball player in the area. He was the manager of Boonsboro Yellowjackets baseball team in the 1940s.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline E. "Alice" Burger Rowe; two grandchildren, the Rev. Michael Rowe of South Carolina and Michelle Greco of Annapolis; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Harry E. "Butch" Rowe and Tommy E. Rowe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 226 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Fullen will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., where prayers will said at 7 p.m.
