Mildred A. Glass
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mildred Alice Alexander Glass, 79, a resident of River Garden Hebrew Nursing Home, Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Waynesboro, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born May 23, 1918, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Flora Connor Alexander.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Glass, in 1996. They were married on July 9, 1938.
She was a 1936 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Cocoa, Fla.
She was a charter member of Bata-Y Gradale Sorority, Waynesboro, for more than 50 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Eleanore I. Black of Jacksonville, Fla. and Karen E. Bingaman of Greencastle, Pa.; one son, Russell E. Glass of Frederick, Md.; one sister, Evelyn Murray of Miami, Fla.; one brother, Lawrence Alexander of Chicago; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 South Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clair R. Baughman
MOUNT AIRY, Md. - Clair R. Baughman, 71, of 2258 Mullinix Mill Road, and formerly of McConnellsburg, Pa., died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Montgomery General Hospital, Olney, Md.
Born Sept. 23, 1926, in Hopewell, Pa., he was the son of the late Paul Ira and Sally Hanna Chaney Baughman.
He was a heavy equipment operator for road construction.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two daughters, Sally Boswell and Kathy Sowers, both of Mount Airy; two sons, Clair "Buddy" Baughman of Chambersburg, Pa., and Michael Baughman of Erie, Pa.; two sisters, Mildred Foster of Waterfall, Pa., and Edna Morris of Everett, Pa.; five brothers, John Baughman of New Grenada, Pa., Robert Baughman of Three Springs, Pa., Roy Baughman of Tonawanda, N.Y., Paul Baughman Jr. of Frankville, N.Y., and Michael Baughman of Breezewood, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers and one grandson.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Toby Mellott will officiate. Burial will be in Steele Cemetery, Hopewell, Pa. Graveside military services will be conducted by Fulton Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.
James L. Tobin
ABERDEEN, Md. - James Lawrence Tobin, 78, of Aberdeen, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Perry Point VA Maryland Health Care System, Perry Point, Md.
Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Alfred F. and Dena Charlotte Jobson Tobin.
He retired in 1981 as a mechanic; he owned Tobin Chevron, on West Bel Air Avenue in Aberdeen. He also worked part-time at Aberdeen Police Department.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
He was a member of American Legion of Aberdeen; former member of Aberdeen Moose and Volunteer Fire Department; and Swan Creek Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Jones Tobin, to whom he was married for 56 years; one daughter, Roberta A. Demarest of Aberdeen; two sons, Robert L. Tobin of Hagerstown and James L. Tobin Jr. of Royal Oak, Md.; one sister, Theresa M. Tobin of Havre de Grace, Md.; one brother, Joseph Tobin of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be today at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Father Kevin Schenning will be celebrant. Burial will be in Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, with honors by American Legion.
Arrangements are by Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, P.A., 333 South Parke St., Aberdeen.
Bessie I. Socks
Bessie Irene Socks, 79, of 435 North Mulberry St., died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born June 11, 1918, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Margie Miller Shockey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Francis Socks, in 1975.
She was employed with Hagerstown Leather Goods for 20 years, retiring in 1978.
She was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Delores Myers of Mercersburg, Pa.; one son, Donald Socks of Smithsburg, three sisters, Gladys Weddle of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., Donna Rouzer of Waynesboro and Doris Martz of Hagerstown; one brother, Charles Robert Shockey of Rouzersville, Pa.; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Koons and Thelma Rouzer; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruthellen F. Shillinger
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ruthellen F. Shillinger, 68, of 1318 W. King St., and formerly of 1410 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, is survived by one son, Maj. Michael F. Shillinger, stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga.
Phillip A. Rauth Jr.
NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. - Phillip A. Rauth Jr. of New Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at his home.
He was the son of Evylon D. Rauth of Hancock.
He retired from IBM.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Catherine Newman Rauth; four daughters, Evylon Dougherty of New Cumberland, Lucinda Kontos of Houston, Leslye Singh-Anand of Chamberlain, S.D., and Amanda Haar of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; one sister, Louise Purcell of Katonah, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Lower Paxton Township, Pa.
Eleanor M. Merritt
TOWSON, Md. - Eleanor Mary Merritt, 89, of Towson, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Hermansdorfer of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Terri Baker and Michael Hermansdorfer, both of Hagerstown; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church, Long Green, Md. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at Evans Chapel of Memories, Parkville, Md., Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

William T. Huff
William Thomas Huff, 80, of 904 Dewey Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1916, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry Martin and Hattie Cramer Huff.
He retired from Hoffman Chevrolet after 25 years of service.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army, Hovercraft Fleet.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by one daughter, Glory L. Huff of Hagerstown.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Bernadine L. Mowen
Bernadine Louise Mowen, 75, of 10915 Clinton Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 3, 1922, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Isabell Uhler Fisher.
Her husband, William Eugene Mowen, died in 1990.
She was employed by J.J. Newberry in the credit department, Maryland Correctional Institution for five years, and Fairchild Aircraft for 20 years.
She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class.
She was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary, Halfway Senior Citizens and AARP.
She is survived by two sons, Michael E. Mowen of Hagerstown, and Kevin J. Mowen of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Olive Mowen and Carol Kridler.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
