D. Craig Chronister

ARTEMAS, Pa. - D. Craig Chronister, 38, of RD 1, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born July 16, 1959, in Chevy Chase, Md., he was the son of the late Richard D. and Margaret Jean Carpenter Chronister.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Dalla Valle Funeral Chapel, 22 Main St., Everett, Pa. The Rev. Curtis Bryant will officiate.

Burial will be private.

Paul Q. Forney

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Paul Quinten Forney, 72, of 9627 Browns Mill Road, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at his home.

Born March 17, 1925, in Marion, Pa., he was the son of the late Lawrence A. and Ada V. Hartman Forney.

He was a 1943 graduate of Greencastle High School.

He was a production controller at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring after 42 years of employment.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle, and served as a church deacon.

He was a life member of Rescue Hose Company 1 of Greencastle, and a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and National AARP.

He served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in the Greencastle-Antrim area.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda E. Bonebrake Forney, whom he married April 16, 1949; two daughters, Kathy L. Johnson of Hagerstown and Pamela J. Gayman of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Gladys Miller of Greencastle; one brother, Harold B. Forney of Greencastle; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert A. Forney.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Donald L. McBride will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Miriam R. Rauth

Miriam R. Rauth, 96, of 945 View St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.

Born in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Markell Davis.

Her husband, J. Richard Rauth, died in 1986. He was formerly an editor of The Daily Mail.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member and past president of the Eugenia Harmon Sunday School Class.

She volunteered at Washington County Hospital for 27 years, and at Western Maryland Hospital.

She worked at the blood bank for 20 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Frances Bone of Syosset, N.Y.; and three grandsons.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Christopher Chantallau will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.

J. Merle Carbaugh

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - J. Merle Carbaugh, 81, of 12249 Shimpstown Road, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore.

Born Feb. 23, 1916, in Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas H. and Nellie Crider Carbaugh.

He was employed at the former Lowengart Co. in Mercersburg from 1950 until his retirement in 1981. During his career at Lowengart and prior to his death, he operated a farm at the Shimpstown Road address.

He was a former member of Pine Grove Cemetery Board.

For the past seven years, he provided equipment for the working displays of Two Top Ruritan Club's Gas and Steam Engine Show. He was recognized by the club for his help.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Atherton Carbaugh, whom he married Oct. 18, 1938; one daughter, Faith E. Carbaugh of Mercersburg; three sons, John T. Carbaugh of Mercersburg, Amos J. Carbaugh of Greencastle, Pa., and David H. Carbaugh of McConnellsburg, Pa.; three brothers, T. Reid Carbaugh, Linn Carbaugh and Roy Carbaugh, all of Mercersburg; 11 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, one sister, and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Maple Grove Church of God, Mercersburg, Pa. The Rev. Norman C. Hege, the Rev. Sterling C. Keeney and the Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Mercersburg.

A viewing will be held at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Oliver R. Gigous

Oliver Russell Gigous, 94, of 15802 National Pike, Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at Williamsport Retirement Village.

Born July 29, 1903, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Edward and Sadie Dommel Gigous.

He was employed by W.H. Reisner Organ Works for 25 years, and previously worked as an electrician.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Hagerstown and attended Cedar Lawn Missionary Church.

He was a member of American Legion Post 222 in Clear Spring and AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorcas H. Gigous.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard D. Gigous and Edward M. Gigous; and one niece.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson and the Rev. Robert J. Seek will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery in Hagerstown.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Albert E. Millichap

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Albert E. Millichap, 87, of 7577 Roxbury Road, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Cumberland Crossings Nursing Home in Carlisle, Pa.

Born Oct. 10, 1910, in Shenandoah, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas and Harriet Capper Millichap.

His wife, Ruth Turner Millichap, died in 1959.

He was a 1928 graduate of Shenandoah High School.

He was employed by The Shenandoah Herald until 1943. He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot from 1951 to 1975, retiring from civil service after 24 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in England, Germany and France.

He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg.

He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Ellis of Bloomington, Ind.; six nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Linda J. Jaymes will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Alexis H. Pultz

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Alexis Hope Pultz, infant daughter of Charles Pultz and Farrah Zentmyer of Harpers Ferry, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at University Hospital of Pennsylvania.

She is survived by one sister, Destany Zentmyer of Harpers Ferry; one brother, Steven Zentmyer of Harpers Ferry; one half-sister, Courtney Pultz of Inwood, W.Va.; maternal grandparents, Marshall Costell of Ranson, W.Va., Mike and Dessa McDonald of Charles Town, W.Va.; maternal great-grandparents, Bonnie Jenkins of Ranson, Holmes Ashwood of Middleway, W.Va.; maternal great-great-grandmother, Nel Fae Sinclair of Brunswick; paternal grandparents, Frank and Chris Worthington of Harpers Ferry, and Charles Pultz of Winchester, Va.; paternal great-grandmother, Pat Martin of Winchester; and paternal great-grandparents, Frank and Audrey Worthington of Harpers Ferry.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg.

There will be no visitation.

Marshall A. Hull

Marshall Aubrey Hull, 74, of 10836 Oak Valley Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 30, 1923, in Big Spring, he was the son of the late Harry David and Edna Velma Mellott Hull.

He was employed with Western Maryland Railway for more than 40 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He also was involved in the Normandy invasion and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ in Hagerstown.

He also was a member of Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion in Hagerstown; Hagerstown Lodge 378, BPO Elks; Medairy Lodge 140 A.F.&A.M. in Williamsport; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 95 in Hagerstown; Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Cumberland, Md.; Palestine Council 16 R&SM in Hagerstown; Ithiel RA Chapter 27 in Hagerstown; St. Bernard Commandry 9 Knights Templar in Hagerstown; Ali Ghan Shrine Temple in Cumberland; Hagerstown Shrine Club; Sayara Unit of Ali Ghan Temple in Hagerstown; Kentucky Colonels of Western Maryland; and Royal Order of Jesters, Cumberland Court 117.

He is survived by his wife, Laura O. Shirk Hull; two daughters, Linda E. Hull of New York, and Diane A. Stone of Williamsport; one son, Donald M. Hull of Hagerstown; one sister, Rosetta Apa of Long Island, N.Y.; one brother, Hermon A. Hull of Laurel, Md.; three grandsons; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn C. Gruber; and one grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Donald Evason will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Church Cemetery in Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., where Medairy Lodge 140 AF&AM will conduct services at 7 p.m. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today after 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Reformed Church, United Church of Christ, 201 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Esther L.M. Boward

Esther Louise Muth Boward, 82, of 21657 Leiter St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 5, 1915, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Grant C. Muth and Mae Robinson Muth King.

Her husband, Fred R. Boward, died in 1980. They were married April 23, 1932.

Early in life, she was a seamstress at Wayne Manufacturing in Waynesboro, later called Wayne Sportswear. Prior to retiring in 1976, she was a seamstress at Austin Hill Inc. in Waynesboro.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leitersburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Mina J. Feiser of Orlando, Fla., and Eleanora Y. Duffey of Waynesboro; one stepbrother, Donald King of Rouzerville, Pa.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two twin great-great--grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, her twin, Lois I. Welty, and Verminia Baker; one brother, Grant Muth Jr.; and her stepfather, Harry King.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Lans E. Alexis will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
