Edna P. Long
Edna Pauline Long, 90, formerly of 232 Daycotah Ave., died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.
Born March 7, 1907, in Cearfoss, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harvey O. and Lillian S. Pittenger Spickler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lewis Long, in 1987.
She was previously employed by Hoffman Quality Meats.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Jack D. Long of Owings Mills, Md.; one sister, Ethel Fiery of Hagerstown; two brothers, Harold Spickler of Smithsburg and Ross Spickler of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Shoemaker, Helen Eichelberger and Pearl Robinson; and a brother, Clinton Spickler.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Willard F. Rahn will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles A. Sanders
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Charles Anthony Sanders, 90, of Rocking Mountain Lane, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at Piney Mountain Nursing Home, Fayetteville, W.Va.
Born Oct. 31, 1906, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late John M. and Mary S. Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Dally Warren Sanders, in 1975.
He worked cutting ice off of Lake Royer, now Fort Ritchie. He also worked at Brookside Restaurant and service station in Fountaindale, Pa. He ran the basketball team in Fountaindale and the boxing and wrestling matches. He retired as a grinder, from Landis Machine Co., after 43 years of service. Prior to that he had worked in construction for both E.R. Warners Construction Co. and John Etler Construction Co. He also ran the water wheel at Pen Mar Park.
He was a member of St. Andrews R.C. Church.
He was a life member of Mechanics Steam Engine and Hose Co., with more than 60 years of service and was part of the original Firemen's Minstrel Show. He was a former member of Legion of Mary.
He is survived by three daughters, Darlene Taylor of Barnwell, S.C., Kathleen Mack of Fayetteville and Charlene Cyr of Middletown, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews R.C. Church, at the corners of North Broad and East Main Streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Thomas Hemler will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Andrews R.C. Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, at the corners of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro.
A Christian Wake Service will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, by the Rev. Thomas Hemler.

Bessie I. Socks
Bessie Irene Socks, 79, of 435 N. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born June 11, 1918, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Margie Miller Shockey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Francis Socks, in 1975.
She was employed with Hagerstown Leather Goods for 20 years, retiring in 1978.
She was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Delores Myers of Hagerstown; one son, Donald Socks of Smithsburg, three sisters, Gladys Weddle of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., Donna Rouzer of Waynesboro and Doris Martz of Hagerstown; one brother, Charles Robert Shockey of Rouzersville, Pa.; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Koons and Thelma Rouzer; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sylvia J. Knepper
RINGGOLD - Sylvia J. Knepper, 50, of Poplar Grove Road, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at her home.
Born Feb. 27, 1947, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Clifford M. Izer of Hagerstown and the late Lorraine C. Andrews Izer.
She was employed with Community Living Corp., Frederick, Md.
She was a member of Ringgold Church of Christ.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Edward L. Knepper; one daughter, Michelle D. Dietrich of Smithsburg; two sons, Patrick E. Knepper, serving in the U.S. Air Force in Guam, and Chad A. Knepper of Smithsburg; one sister, Bonnie L. Kinslow of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Clifford M. Izer Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ringgold Church of Christ, 14420 Barkdoll Road. Pastor Don Conley and Pastor Tim Lester will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg.

Edward L. Viar
WILLIAMSPORT - Edward Leon Viar, 75, of Williamsport, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 27, 1922, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late James Henry and Ida Pearl Lohman Viar.
He was retired from Serv-U-Vending Co., and had previously been employed with Better Homes, Coca Cola, and Smith Oil Co., all of Hagerstown.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church; and attended St. James Brethren Church.
He was a member of Red Men 84, Williamsport; and a life member of Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club.
He is survived by his wife, Flo M. Viar; three daughters, Sharon Snyder of Funkstown, Dolores Wagaman of Louisville, Ky., and Angie Powers of Fairplay; two sons, Eugene L. Viar and Ellis L. Viar, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Evelyn Nigh of Williamsport; two brothers, C. Richard Viar of Hagerstown and Paul R. Viar of Florida; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James H. Viar.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Juanita V. Barr
Juanita V. Barr, 76, of 148 East Ave., Hagerstown, who died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, was the daughter of the late Richard A. and Helen A. Munson Barr.
Anna Mitchem
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna Mitchem, 92, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Jan. 15, 1905, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Mary Ann Jack Mix.
She was a member of Moler Avenue Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by companion, Mary Baker of Martinsburg.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Mix and Mary C. Proctor; and a brother, John Mix.
Graveside services will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Eddie H. Edmonds will officiate.
Visitation will be Thursday at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.
Naomi J. Bock
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Naomi J. Bock, 89, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Nov. 18, 1907, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Harry Gantz and Jane Mentzer Bock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel D. Bock, in 1973.
She and her husband owned and operated Sam's End of the Trail Tavern at Pen Mar. She also did seasonal work at Musselman's in Biglerville, Pa., and was a nurse's aide at Fountaindale Nursing Home.
She is survived by one daughter, Connie A. Emory of York, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Isabel Redding, Harry D. Bock, and Frances Trzcinski; and one great-grandson.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Roger D. Cales will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.
Juanita M. Mowery
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Juanita Marie Mowery, 67, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Oct. 13, 1930, in New Hope, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Romanus and Ruth Riggleman Michael.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George R. Copeland, in 1974; and by her husband, Harry Wesley Mowery, on May 5, 1997.
She attended New Hope School, New Hope.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Wesleyan Chapel, Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by one daughter, Esther Lea Copeland Hileman of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one stepson, Kenneth Copeland of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Homer Michael; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one stepson, Dale Copeland; and one sister, Thelma Michael.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. William C. Swope and Pastor Robert Capplinger will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
