B. Josephine Kiracofe

WILLIAMSPORT - B. Josephine Kiracofe, 91, of 2750 Virginia Ave., died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.

Born Nov. 29, 1905, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William O. and Mary A. Kidwell Kiracofe.

She was a graduate of Washington County School of Nursing.

She was a retired teacher at the Maryland Medical Secretarial School, in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, for 87 years.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. The Rev. Robert S. Barton and the Rev. Darryl Zoller will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Elevator Fund of Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W. Church St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Jack R. White

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jack R. White, 56, of 12970 Old Forge Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Jan. 30, 1941, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Jack W. and Janet M. Royer White.

He was a 1959 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He was employed for 31 years as a Class A lineman with West Penn Power Co., now Allegheny Power System.

He was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Waynesboro.

He was a member of Utility Workers Union of America Local 102.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Ann "Sue" Barnhart White, whom he married on March 18, 1961; two daughters, Lorie L. White of Waynesboro and Suzee C. White of Quincy, Pa.; one son, W. Wyatt White of Quincy; one sister, Connie L. Martin of Frederick, Md.; and three nieces.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro. Pastor Roger K. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro and one-half hour prior to the services Saturday morning at the church.

Harry A. Holsinger Jr.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Harry A. Holsinger Jr., 79, of Arbutus Park Retirement Community, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997.

Born June 30, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Fonzie Brown Holsinger.

He retired from the Maryland State Police with the rank of lieutenant after 29 years of service.

He was a member of Church of the Brethren, Hagerstown.

He was executive director of Maryland State Sheriff's Association for four years and was instrumental in the formation of the Association's Boys Town.

He is survived by his son, Charles Holsinger of Davidsville, Pa.; one grandson; and three great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Holsinger.

A memorial service will be Friday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Franklin Street United Methodist Church, Johnstown. The Rev. Jeffrey Miller will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Outreach Program of the Franklin Street United Methodist Church, 510 Locust St., Johnstown, Pa. 15902.

Arrangements are by John Henderson Funeral Home, Johnstown, Pa.

Henry E. Best

WEVERTON, Md. - Henry Etzel Best, 69, of Weverton, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born Dec. 9, 1927, in Yarrowsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Ernest McClellan and Mary Etta Miller Best.

He was a retired employee with Amtrak in Washington, D.C. and formerly employed at Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown.

He was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren, Brownsville, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan Coulter Best; one daughter, Lori S. Dagenhart of Frederick, Md.; one sister, Betty B. Gaither, of Weverton; four brothers, Linford Best of Brownsville Heights, Md., Lee Best of Weverton, Thomas Best of Mount Airy, Md. and Robert Best of Knoxville, Md.; one aunt; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Md. 21715.

Harry P. Smith

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harry P. Smith, 56, of 2889 White Church Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.

Born Feb. 12, 1941, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Clyde R. and Modena T. Shaffer Smith Sr.

He had worked as a furniture salesman at the former P. Nicholas Sons and the former Famous Furniture Store, both of Chambersburg. He had most recently been employed in construction with Martin Building, Hagerstown.

He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

He was a member of Wesley Yeager Post 606 American Legion, Fort Loudon, Pa.; and AARP.

He is survived by one daughter, Jane L. Cline of Chambersburg; two sons, Gary L. Smith Sr. and Terry L. Smith, both of Chambersburg; four sisters, Dorothy Shumate of Gettysburg, Pa., Catherine Clark and Maxine Barthalow, both of Chambersburg and Gladys Carter of Baltimore, Md.; five brothers, Clyde R. Smith Jr. of Frederick, Md., Leroy Smith of Fairfield, Pa., Boyd Smith of Fayetteville, Pa., William Smith of Wichita, Kan., and Donald Smith of Topeka, Kan.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Smith.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Arnold Goodon will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert L. H. Burtner

FREDERICK, Md. - Robert Lee H. Burtner, 70, of 5705 Woodlyn Road, died on Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born May 31, 1927, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Lloyd W. and Carrie Huffer Burtner.

He was a 1944 graduate of Frederick High School.

Prior to his retirement, he was a co-owner of Burtner Brother's Custom Farming in Frederick County.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick.

He is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Faye Troupe Burtner; one daughter, Patricia Ann Knill of Myersville, Md.; two sons, Ronnie Lee Burtner of Hacienda Heights, Calif. and Steven J. Burtner of Jefferson, Md.; three brothers, David Burtner of Middletown, Carroll Burtner and Raymond Burtner, both of Frederick; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be private. The Rev. Larry W. Fogle, associate pastor of Frederick Church of the Brethren, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church St., Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in the names of his grandchildren to Middletown Elementary School, 201 E. Green St., Middletown, Md. 21769; or Middletown Middle School, 100 High St., Middletown, Md. 21769; or Broadoaks Childrens School of Whittier College, P.O. Box 634, Whittier, Calif. 90608.

Mary E. Higgins

CLEAR SPRING, Md. - Mary Elizabeth Higgins, 77, of Blairs Valley, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Indian Springs, she was the daughter of the late Cletus B. and Edith V. Hetzer Dick.

She attended Clear Spring High School.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her husband, Willard "Tuck" Higgins; two daughters, Cleta Vale Higgins Cox of Charleston, S.C., and Dona Marie Higgins Humphries of Middletown, Md.; three sons, Raymond Wilson Higgins of Clear Spring, Willard "Jack" Higgins of Hagerstown, and Samuel Lee Higgins of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one brother, Bruce Dick of Hagerstown; two granddaughters; four grandsons; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Eugene Higgins; one sister, Lula Kesecker; and two brothers, Ralph Dick and Perry Dick.

Private graveside services will be held at Parkhead Cemetery, Big Pool, Md.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Lester D. Keckley

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lester D. "Buck" Keckley, 70, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born Jan. 9, 1927, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late Dudley and Emma Bennett Keckley.

He retired from the VA Medical Center after 35 years.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a life member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Ann Putman Keckley; two daughters, Judith Ann Reynolds of Inwood, W.Va., and Tammy Sue Hayslip of Kings Bay, Ga.; one son, Lester D. Keckley Jr. of Martinsburg; one brother, Ray Keckley of Martinsburg, two half sisters, Helen Clemmons of Martinsburg and Goldie Fritts of Charles Town, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a half sister, Eloise Albright.

Services will be Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Raymond R. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW and Berkeley Post 15, American Legion.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
