Ressie M. Mayes

MOUNT AIRY, Md. - Ressie M. Mayes, 77, of Mount Airy, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

Born May 2, 1920, in Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John and Emily Greene Jefferson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Mayes, in 1992.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ridgeville.

She is survived by seven children, Charlotte Cassini of Boonsboro, John Mayes and Douglas Mayes, both of Texas, Patricia Smelser of Union Bridge, Md., Vickie Leahy of Mount Airy, Loretta Dobbins of North Carolina and Lisa Tompkins of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Reece Jefferson and Denver Jefferson, both of Tennessee and William Jefferson of Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville, Md.

Burial will be in Laytonsville Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lawrence F. Locke

WINCHESTER, Va. - Lawrence Franklin Locke, 71, of Winchester, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center.

Born Sept. 12, 1926, in Clarke County, Va., he was the son of the late Maurice Franklin and Beulah Lee Edmonds Locke.

He was formerly employed by Stuart and Perry Quarry.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and received the American Area Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a member of VFW of Winchester.

He is survived by three daughters, Christine Goulet of Mt. Holly, N.J., Clara See of White Post, Va., and Bonnie Bozarth of Princeton, W.Va.; five sons, Larry Locke of South Hampton, N.J., Donald Locke of Glassboro, N.J., Ernest Harris of Mt. Holly, Robert Harris of Browns Mills, N.J., and Morris Harris of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Hilda Chapman of Berryville, Va., and Mary Louise Locke of Ohio; one brother, Arthur Locke of Franklin, W.Va.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and companion, Helen Vorous.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Mae Stanley; and a sister, Marie Lutz.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, 114 N. Mildred St., Ranson, W.Va.

The Rev. Kenneth W. Sencindiver will officiate.

Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Martinsburg Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Inez M. Hill

Inez M. Hill, 93, of 18427 Maugans Ave., died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Sunnyside, Jefferson, Md., she was the daughter of the late John T. and Janie C. Weedon Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin L. Hill, in 1994.

She was a retired employee of Bon Ton and had worked at Fairchild Aircraft.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Isabelle M. Johnson, Geraldine R. Hester, Patricia E. Johnson and Ginger R. Samuels, all of Hagerstown; one son, Earleston E. Hill of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Edith Wars of Frederick, Md., Mary Gross of Middletown, Md., and Edith R. Cook of Hagerstown; four brothers, Edward Neakins and George F. Brown, both of Frederick, John T. Brown Jr. of Brunswick, Md., and Edward Brown of Hagerstown; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown.

The Rev. Jack Fullen will be celebrant.

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m., with prayers at 6:30 p.m., at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Luther W. Reed

Luther W. Reed, 92, of 1048 Columbia Road, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Clearview Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born in Greensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late John W. and Clara E. Kunkle Reed.

He was a retired machinist with Fairchild Aircraft.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret B. Parks Reed; one daughter, Marjorie B. Wentz of Maugansville; three sons, Wayne E. Reed and Marvin P. Reed, both of Hagerstown and Wallace E. Reed of Knoxville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Leona R. Blonsay.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Vicar Marty Roberson will officiate.

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary A. Bolinger

HANOVER, Pa. - Mary Anderson Bolinger, 90, formerly of Wells Tannery, Pa., died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Hanover Hall Nursing Home, Hanover, Pa.

Born Nov. 15, 1906, in Broad Top City, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William R. and Jeanette Belle Horton Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred G. Bolinger, in 1986.

She had worked as a waitress at Gateway in Breezewood, Pa., for 10 years.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Wells Tannery.

She attended Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover.

She is survived by one daughter, Geraldine R. Zimmerman of Bellefonte, Pa.; one son, Frederick K. Bolinger of Hanover; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son; three sisters; and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, HCR 64, Harrisonville, Pa.

The Rev. Louis Barth will officiate.

Burial will be in Wells Valley United Methodist Cemetery, Wells Tannery, Pa.
