Mary E. Householder

FREDERICK, Md. - Mary Elizabeth Householder, 65, of Butterfly Lane, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at her home.

Born Oct. 30, 1932, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth Bowers Deater.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Eugene Householder Sr., in 1986.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by A&P Grocery store in Frederick for 16 years. She later was employed by IGA Food Market in Frederick. She also worked for the Montevue Home.

She was a charter member of South End Baptist Church, Frederick.

She is survived by one son, Samuel E. Householder Jr. of Jefferson, Md.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Etchison Memorial Chapel, Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the kitchen fund at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, Md. 21701.

Robert E. Brown

FREDERICK, Md. - Robert Emanuel Brown, 77, of 891 Butterfly Lane, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at his home.

Born May 5, 1920, in Knoxville, Md., he was the son of the late Robert E. and Anna Hardy Brown.

He was employed by St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and School for more than 20 years. He also worked for Western Maryland Railway.

He was a veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Brown of Hagerstown; one daughter, Joyce Hendry of Hagerstown; one son, Wayne Brown of Frederick; two sisters, Dorothy Proctor of Point of Rocks, Md., and Agnus Brown of Willingboro, N.J.; three brothers, Daniel Brown of California, Leo Brown of Willingboro, and William Brown of Knoxville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one aunt; one uncle; nephews and cousins.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 116 E. Second St., Frederick. The Rev. Wayne G. Funk will be celebrant. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family will receive friends at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick, on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. A viewing will be from noon to 8 p.m at the funeral home.

Harold N. Blickenstaff

FREDERICK, Md. - Harold N. Blickenstaff, 93, of Jefferson Pike, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at Reeders Memorial Home, Boonsboro.

Born April 12, 1904, in Wolfsville, Md., he was the son of the late Harry G. Blickenstaff Sr. and Rebecca Kline Blickenstaff.

He was formerly employed by Ox Fiber Brush Factory, Frederick.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of West Frederick Congregation of Jehovah's Witness Church.

He is survived by one sister, Judith Bussard of Hagerstown; one brother, Harry G. Blickenstaff Jr. of Wolfsville; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Moser, Loretta Himes and Pauline Wolf; and three brothers, Toncilla Blickenstaff, Samuel Blickenstaff and Hugh Blickenstaff.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Md. Tom Nicke will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery, Wolfsville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 13, Myersville, Md. 21773.

Kenneth L. Uppercue Jr.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Kenneth Lugher Uppercue Jr., 48, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, in Charleston.

Born Oct. 16, 1949, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Kenneth Lugher Uppercue Sr. and Elizabeth Boyd Uppercue.

He attended McDonogh and the University of Maryland, both of Baltimore.

He is survived by his wife, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 226 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George Limmer will officiate.

Herbert W. Jones

CAMBRIDGE, Md. - The Rev. Herbert W. Jones, 78, of Cambridge, and formerly of Mercersburg, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at Glasgow Nursing Home, Cambridge.

Born Aug. 17, 1919, in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Ludford Cahoon and Gertrude Neal Jones.

He was raised and attended public schools in Baltimore.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.

He received a bachelor of science degree from West Texas State University in 1949. He also earned bachelor of divinity and master of divinity degrees from Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa.

From 1956 until his retirement in 1985, he was affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He served churches in Maryland, Indiana and Pennsylvania. He spent most of his retirement in Mercersburg.

He was a member and a former chaplain of Eureka Masonic Lodge in Sharpsburg. He was a member of Lions Club in Sharpsburg. He was honored for his service to the Jaycees of Winchester, Ind.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Williams Jones, whom he married on March 4, 1945; one daughter, Carroll E. Margulies of Arnold, Md.; one son, Stephen W. Jones of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Shirley Callahan of Baltimore; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Upton, Pa. The Rev. Alan R. Wilson will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are by Thomas Funeral Home, 700 Locust St., Cambridge.

Norma F. Waggoner

Norma Fauley Waggoner, 68, of 17320 Diane Drive, Hagerstown, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at her home.

Born July 5, 1929, in Grafton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Merle L. Stark Fauley.

She was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., until 1955. She worked for several years as a teacher's aid for the Washington County Board of Education. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband, Paul C. Waggoner; one daughter, Paula Ann Kendle of Hagerstown; one brother, Wilbur Fauley of Grafton; and two grandsons.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. C. Richard Masters and the Rev. Janis W. Dorsey will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Lynn K. Brugh III

CLIFFORD, Va. - Lynn Kanaga Brugh III, 64, of Clifford, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at his home, The Brick House.

Born Oct. 22, 1933, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Mary Stuart Brugh and Lynn Kanaga Brugh Jr.

He was a graduate of Lawrenceville School and earned bachelor of arts and bachelor of law degrees at Washington and Lee University.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea.

He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Clifford.

He was a member of the Virginia Bar Association and Winton Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Landon Smith Brugh; three daughters, Carter Mason Brugh Slaughter of Richmond, Va., Anne Spencer Brugh Woolford of Chesapeake, Va., and Mary Stuart Brugh Hardy of Columbia, S.C.; two sons, Lynn Kanaga Brugh IV of Richmond and Mason Smith Brugh of Clifford; two sisters, Anne Spencer Brugh Kenney of Hagerstown and Mary Stuart Brugh Uhl of Easton, Md.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Clifford. The Rev. Charles C. Carman will officiate. Burial will be Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Lappans Crossroads.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Friends of the Amherst County Public Library or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst, Va.

Carole H. Little

FREDERICK, Md. - Carole Howard Little, 62, of 8129 Runnymeade Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at her home.

Born Jan. 14, 1935, in Lebanon, N.H., she was the daughter of Florence Tracy Howard of East Montpelier, Vt., and the late Harold F. Howard.

She grew up in the Northeast and attended both Mary Washington College and George Washington University. While attending George Washington, she was an avid basketball player.

She was a member of the altar and Rosary Society of various Catholic churches while stationed in various Army posts throughout the United States and Europe.

She was a member of Fort Detrick Roman Catholic Church and the choir.

While stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., she was a volunteer leader in the Girl Scouts of America. She served as a Red Cross volunteer at Fort Detrick's blood drive. She was a Silver Life Master. She was a member of Frederick Bridge Club.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Donald C. Little; three daughters, Tammy Myra Miller of Pittsburgh, Tracey Ellen Little-Beath of Crofton, Md., and Trena L. Kirk of Frederick; two sons, Gregory Harrington Little of Dale City, Va., and Michael Loren Little of Turnersville, N.J.; three sisters, Jan Goodall of British Columbia, Canada, Gail Bradford of Prattville, Ala., and Marilyn Ackenhausen of Lake Oswego, Ore.; two brothers, Thomas Howard and Harold Howard; 12 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, 2nd Lt. Donald Cubbison Little III.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at Fort Detrick Chapel, Frederick. The Rev. Luis Picazo will be celebrant. Burial will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Those wishing to attend the graveside services are asked to meet at the administration office at the cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Frederick County Hospice, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702-1799.

Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Svend D. Sheppard

WESTERNPORT, Md. - Svend David "Shep" Sheppard, 76, of 26009 Rock St., and formerly of Hagerstown, who died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, is survived by a brother, Russell Sheppard of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one grandson.
