Laura E. Ambrose

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Laura Edith Ambrose, 87, of 501 Ninth Ave., died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at her home.

Born March 10, 1910, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George H. and Bertha A. Michael Bohrer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wilson Ambrose, in 1981.

She was a member of New York Hill United Methodist Church, Brunswick.

She is survived by one son, Ralph T. Ambrose of Brunswick; one sister, Hazel Pearl Crowl of Fairbanks, Alaska; seven grandchildren, Eddie Ambrose of Brunswick, Crystal Hinman, Melissa Ambrose and Richard Ambrose, all of Frederick, Md., Kenny Ambrose of Fort Worth, Texas, Karen Adams of Arkansas and Ronald Ambrose of Dale City, Va.; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Lea Ambrose; two sons, George "Bunky" Ambrose and Shannon "Roonie" Ambrose; one sister, Odessa Lloyd; four brothers, Hubert Bohrer, Woodrow Bohrer, Sam Bohrer and Shannon Bohrer; and one grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The Rev. Robert A. McCullough will officiate. Burial will be in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Robert C. Triesler III

PASADENA, Md. - Robert Charles Triesler III, 52, of Pasadena, and formerly of Dover, Del., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at his home.

Born Jan. 25, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Robert C. Triesler Jr. and Winifred B. Triesler of Dover.

He was a 1963 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

He was employed as a facilities management specialist with the U.S. Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command and retired in October 1997.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.

In Hagerstown, he was a member of the Boy Scouts, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 19 years, Pamala Jane Keller Triesler; one daughter, Sarah Kathleen Triesler of Pasadena; one son, John Patrick Triesler, at home; one sister, Donna C. Weidler of Georgia; two brothers, Maj. Kim C. Triesler of Dayton, Ohio, and William C. Triesler of Dover; nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, Md. 21108.

Arrangements are by Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena.

Gladys E.D. Smith

Gladys Elizabeth Dement Smith, 104, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Cabin John, Md., died of heart failure, Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at Ravenwood Lutheran Home, Hagerstown.

She was born Dec. 24, 1892, in Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reginald "Reggie" Smith, in 1977.

During World War II, she worked at the U.S. Navy David Taylor Model Basin, where she remained until 1957 when she retired from government service.

She was one of the original organizers of the Cabin John Park Citizens' Association. She was a charter member of Potomac Valley Homemakers Club and a life member of Order of the Eastern Star, Kensington Chapter. She also was involved in local church activities and numerous antique and classic car clubs, along with her husband.

She is survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by two daughters, Charlotte Smith Bortz and Jean Smith Summerlin; and two sons, Charles R. "BeeBee" Smith Jr. and William Donald Smith.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Viers Mill Drive, Rockville, Md. The Rev. Thomas L. Brunkow will officiate.

Visitation will be at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m.

Harold B. Lowe

KEEDYSVILLE - Harold Benjamin Lowe, 80, of 99 N. Main St., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 29, 1917, in Bakersville, Md., he was the son of the late Raymond B. and Lula Miller Lowe.

He was employed for 22 years by Fairchild Corp. He retired from Mack Trucks Inc. after 17 years of employment.

He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Church in Keedysville, where he served as a member of the church council, a choir leader, a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent.

He previously served as a council member for Town of Keedysville.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Pauline Hines Lowe; one daughter, Carol A. Jordan of Keedysville; one son, Terry A. Lowe of Frederick, Md.; one sister, Edna Alexander of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Carroll L. Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Co. 69, P.O. Box 7, Boonsboro, Md. 21713.

Robert C. Triesler III

PASADENA, Md. - Robert Charles Triesler III, 52, of Pasadena, and formerly of Dover, Del., who died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, was a 1963 graduate of Dover High School.

Franklin J. Shifflett

KEEDYSVILLE - Franklin J. Shifflett, 66, of Mount Hebron Road, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born Jan. 30, 1931, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jack Snow and Julia Pierce.

He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc., retiring in 1987.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served during the Korean War.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a member of Mack Retirees Chapter; Clopper Michael American Legion Post 10, Boonsboro; past president of Central Maryland Bowling Association; member of Darrell Witte Commercial Wednesday Nite Major Bowling League; Major Scratch League Wednesday Nite; and Tuesday Morning Duffer's Golf League.

He is survived by his wife, Connie J. Shifflett; four daughters, Sandy Jacobs of Germany, Laura Marshall of Keedysville, Cheryl Bair of Barton, Md., and Kim Wallace of Panama City, Fla.; three sons, Michael Swiger of Keedysville, Ed Swiger of Sharpsburg, and Joe Shifflett of Waynesboro, Pa.; one sister, Virginia Mills of Vanville, W.Va.; three half-sisters, Irene Snow, Ella Snow and Virginia Smeltzner, all of Martinsburg; three half-brothers, Herman Snow, Lloyd Snow and Bubby Snow, all of Martinsburg; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, James Shifflett; and one grandson.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 30, at 4 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Keedysville. The Rev. Carroll L. Boyer will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Edgar E. Jones

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. - Edgar Enough Jones, 58, of Lexington Park, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at Tucson Medical Center, Tucson, Ariz.

Born Jan. 25, 1939, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Edgar and Helen Shaw Jones.

He was veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was employed by Hall's Trucking of Hagerstown, where he worked for 28 years. In 1984, he moved to Southern Maryland and became the manager for the maintenance shop of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department of the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Lovalene Estelle Kennedy Jones; three children, Christopher Lee Jones of Sharpsburg, Kelly Sue Brown of Virginia and Julie Lynn Habel of Lexington Park; two stepchildren, Vickie K. Hill and Kathy Regina Mizell, both of Hagerstown; three sisters, Alice "Sis" Sweigert and Doris "Dee" Thomas, both of Hagerstown, and Elva Byrn of Dameron, Md.; two brothers, Jobie Lewis "Sonny" Jones and Donald Jones, both of Hagerstown; one stepsister, Cathy Sue Johnson of Hagerstown; and 10 grandchildren.

Services were Monday, Nov. 24, at Brinsfield Funeral Home, Leonardtown, Md. Pastor Daniel Moore officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Lexington Park.

Memorial donations may be made to the Tylar Ke-Von Habel Trust Fund.

Edith G. Reynolds

Edith G. Reynolds, 86, of 11022 Roessner Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.

Born June 12, 1911, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ella Brown Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Issac K. Reynolds, in 1983.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Funkstown.

She was a member of Halfway Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Delores Dola and Nancy Reinhard, both of Annapolis; one sister, Alice M. Eckstine of Smithsburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Samuel L. Reynolds.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. and 30 minutes prior to the service Wednesday.

Robert E. Clapp Jr.

FREDERICK, Md. - Judge Robert Earle Clapp Jr., 87, of 4632 Araby Church Road, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born April 28, 1910, in Kannapolis, N.C., he was the son of the late Robert E. Clapp Sr. and Bessie Hargett Clapp.

He attended schools in Frederick. He was a 1930 graduate of Washington and Lee University and a 1933 summa cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School.

He served in the Maryland Attorney Generals Office as assistant Maryland attorney general. He also served as in the Maryland House of Delegates in 1939. During World War II, he served with the Judge Advocate General's Office in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of captain.

He returned to Frederick in 1945 and practiced law until his judicial appointment. He was appointed circuit court judge in 1964 and retired in 1980 as chief judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit. He remained as counsel to the law firm Shoemaker, Horman and Clapp.

He was a member of Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ.

He served on the Hood College board of trustees and the C. Burr Artz Library board of trustees. He was a member and former commander of Francis Scott Key Post 11 American Legion, Frederick. He was vice president of the Maryland Bar Association.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Routzahn Clapp; four sons, Robert E. Clapp III of Laurel, Md., Richard T. Clapp of Madison, N.J., James H. Clapp of Middletown, Md., and John R. Clapp of Frederick; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, 11 W. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Frederick A. Wenner will officiate. Private burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to C. Burr Artz Library, 110 E. Patrick St., Frederick, Md. 21701; or to the charity of one's choice.
