Patricia A. Schaeffer

Patricia Anne Schaeffer, 57, of Hagerstown, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at her home.

Born Aug. 24, 1940, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Franklin S. Phillips and Opal Montgomery Hammersla.

She was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

She was an operating room technician at Washington County Hospital; later, she worked for the U.S. Census Bureau, Hagerstown.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her stepfather, George O. Hammersla of Martinsburg; one daughter, Robin Lloyd of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren, Zachery Lloyd and Christopher Lloyd, both of Hagerstown.

Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg. The Rev. William E. Merki will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg.

Bobby E. Knable

Bobby Eugene Knable, 62, of 12024 Smithfield Farm Lane, Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Dec. 31, 1934, near Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Louis C. Knable and Olive Virginia Robinson Knable Alton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Genevieve Stevens Knable.

He retired from MCI with 26 years of service. He was previously employed with Hagerstown Shoe Co., Chatkins Pharmacy and Fishers Pharmacy.

He was a member of Germantown Bethel Church of God, Cascade.

He was a member of Williamsport Red Men Lodge 84; Knights of Columbus; Fraternal Order of Eagles 694; and NRA.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Repp of Hagerstown and Barbara Timmons of Seaford, Del.; four sons, Ronald Knable of Cascade, Timothy Knable of Clear Spring, Robert Knable and Rodney Knable, both of Hagerstown; three brothers, Louis Knable, Glenn Knable and Joseph Knable, both of Orchard Ridge, Md.; 12 grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a friend, Sharon Harris.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ned Alton.

Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Paul Tobias will officiate. Burial will be in Shanktown Cemetery, Big Pool, Md.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Germantown Bethel Church of God, 16924 Raven Road, Cascade, Md. 21719.

Donald W. Bowers Sr.

WILLIAMSPORT - Donald W. Bowers Sr., 64, of Williamsport, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Jan. 9, 1933, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Foster E. and Sarah Hoover Bowers.

He was employed as a mechanic with Certain-Teed.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Stilwell Bowers of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one daughter, J. Michele Long of Hedgesville, W.Va.; two sons, Donald William Bowers Jr. of Hedgesville and James S. Bowers of Martinsburg; two sisters, Sue Hoch and Phyllis Turner, both of Williamsport; six brothers, Orville "Whitey" Bowers, Philip Bowers, David Bowers, Foster Bowers and Joseph Bowers, all of Williamsport and Paul Bowers of Valley Forge, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Priscilla Cline; two brothers, Thomas Bowers and Norman Bowers.

Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Earl Litman will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lester A. Barnes

Lester Andrew Barnes, 68, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 25, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Andrew Jacob Barnes and Laura Iva Baker Barnes Banzhoff.

He was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He retired, in 1984, as vice president of manufacturing and corporate planning from JLG Industries in McConnellsburg, Pa. Earlier, he worked, for 18 years, at Pangborn Corp. He also was president of LCB Inc. T/A Gravely Lawn and Power of Hagerstown.

He was a member of BPO Elks 378 of Hagerstown; American Legion Post 211 of Funkstown; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6319 of Greencastle, Pa.; and Southern Engineering.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce McNairn Barnes; one daughter, Bonnie Belinda Owens of Hagerstown; two sons, Conway Stuart Barnes of Smithsburg and Lester Alan Barnes of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Virgil Eugene Banzhoff.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alvin D. Yeakle

MAUGANSVILLE, Md. - Alvin D. Pete Yeakle, 89, Village Mill Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.

Born April 21, 1908, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late George Cleveland and Anne Maude Foreman Yeakle.

He was employed by Sears, Fairchild Aircraft and Montgomery Ward.

He was a member of Christ's Reformed Church, Elks Lodge No. 378, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Western Maryland Sportsman's Club, all in Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. Riley Yeakle; two stepsons, Joe Stephens of Key West, Fla., and Harry Stephens of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Christ's Reformed Church, 130 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown, at the convenience of the family.

Family requests the omission of flowers and memorial donations may be sent to Christ's Reformed Church, 130 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Roger L. Shoop Sr.

BOONSBORO - Roger Lee Shoop Sr., 46, of 21318 Mount Lena Road, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 4, 1951, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Carrie V. Miley Shoop of Williamsport and the late Thurman A. Shoop Sr.

He was employed by AC&T Co. in Hagerstown.

He was a former member of the U.S. Army Reserves in Hagerstown.

He attended Tri-State Church of God in Boonsboro.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Griffith Shoop, whom he married May 9, 1971; one daughter, Rose Ann Shoop of Hagerstown; two sons, Roger L. Shoop Jr. and Michael T. Shoop, both of Mount Lena; two brothers, Donald L. Shoop of Hagerstown and Thurman A. Shoop Jr. of Clear Spring; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. James J. Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open after noon on Sunday.

Nancy J. Krouse

FUNKSTOWN - Nancy Jane Krouse, 75, of 122 Westside Ave., died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at her home.

Born Dec. 29, 1921, in Funkstown, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Helen L. Boward Reecher.

She was a 1939 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was employed at Southern Shoe Co. in Hagerstown, for 12 years. She also was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown, for 61 years, where she taught Sunday school for 21 years.

She is survived by her husband, Paul E. Krouse; one sister, Joann Elizabeth Johnston of Funkstown; and two nephews, David William Johnston and Timothy Paul Johnston, both of Funkstown.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Darrell Layman will officiate. Burial will be in Funkstown Cemetery.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Sunday School, 24 E. Baltimore St., Funkstown, Md. 21734; Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or the charity of one's choice.

Catherine E. Fowler

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Catherine E. Fowler, 89, of Asbury Methodist Home, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville, Md.

Born Sept. 25, 1908, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Adam L. and Ann F. Stuckey Parkinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Bud" A. Fowler, in 1987.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

She was a member of United Methodist Women; Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 69; and Auxiliary for the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

She is survived by one brother, Lee Parkinson of Martinsburg; one sister-in-law, Audrey Callahan of Martinsburg; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Parkinson, Pauline Parkinson Hipsley and Grace Parkinson; and one brother, Ralph Parkinson.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale Cemetery Road, Martinsburg. The Rev. Al Clipp and the Rev. Harry Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 2220 W. Burke St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.
