Lynford C. Ridenour

Lynford Cecil Ridenour, 82, of 718 Chestnut St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at his home.

Born April 18, 1915, in Mount Lena, Md., he was the son of the late David and Minnie Bowman Ridenour.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Ridenour, in 1993.

He retired in 1980 from Fairchild Aircraft, after 40 years of service.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He was a member of Faith Chapel.

He was a member of AARP; Eagles Club; RSVP; Disabled American Veterans; and a life member of Morris Frock Post 42 of the American Legion.

He is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Barron; one son, Robert E. Ridenour; one grandson, Scott Barron, all of Hagerstown; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Pastor Robert P. Ridenour will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Chapel, 38 S. Locust St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or Gideon International, c/o Carl Springer, 11301 Greenberry Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Bobby E. Knable

Bobby Eugene Knable, 62, of 12024 Smithfield Farm Lane, Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Dec. 31, 1934, near Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Lewis C. Knable and Olive Virginia Robinson Knable Alton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Genevieve Stevens Knable.

He retired from MCI with 26 years of service. He was previously employed with Hagerstown Shoe Co., Chatkins Pharmacy and Fishers Pharmacy.

He was a member of Germantown Bethel Church of God, Cascade.

He was a member of Williamsport Red Men Lodge 84; Knights of Columbus; Fraternal Order of Eagles 694; and NRA.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Repp of Hagerstown and Barbara Timmons of Seaford, Del.; four sons, Ronald Knable of Cascade, Timothy Knable of Clear Spring, Robert Knable and Rodney Knable, both of Hagerstown; three brothers, Lewis Knable, Glenn Knable and Joseph Knable, both of Orchard Ridge, Md.; 12 grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Sharon Harris.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ned Alton.

Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Paul Tobias will officiate. Burial will be in Shanktown Cemetery, Big Pool, Md.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Germantown Bethel Church of God, 16924 Raven Road, Cascade, Md. 21719.

Clayton G. Moreland

Clayton Granville Moreland, 59, of 16956 Shadybrook Terrace, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at his home.

Born Feb. 24, 1938, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clayton Franklin and Roberta May Moyer Moreland.

He was employed with Athey Trucking Co. in Stephens City, Va.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Wetzel Moreland; three daughters, Christie Moreland and Pamela Jenkins, both of Funkstown, and Kimberly Moreland, at home; four sons, William Moreland of Funkstown, Clayton Moreland Jr., at home, Stewart Githens and Thomas Githens, both of Hagerstown; three sisters, Margaret "Rita" Deshong of Big Pool, Ruby Kline and Verona Smith, both of Hagerstown; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, James Franklin Moreland.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Charles J. Barney will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Bud Crouse

Bud Crouse, 69, of 144 Buttercup Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at his home.

Born Sept. 4, 1928, in Whitacre, Va., he was the son of the late John Thomas and Eva May Peas Crouse.

He owned and operated Crouse's Auto Repair.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Crouse; three daughters, Patti Martin of Hagerstown, Teresa Sweigert of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Donna Munson of Williamsport; eight sisters, Ruby Boden of Hancock, Elsie Long of Hagerstown, Darlene Maupin and Madline Lofford, both of Martinsburg, Sue Semler and Willdadean Miller, both of Hagerstown, Marie Mahoney of Inwood, W.Va., and Kathy Householder of Hedgesville; one brother, Wilson Crouse of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Thomas Crouse.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Steven S. McCullough will officiate. Burial will be in Parkhead Cemetery in Big Pool.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Bethel Assembly of God, 515 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Carrie E.R. Smith

BALTIMORE - Carrie Elizabeth Row Smith, 93, formerly of 3234 Magnolia Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at Caton Manor Genesis Elder Care in Baltimore.

Born Nov. 20, 1904, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Lilly Mae Mundey Row.

She was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Baltimore.

She is survived by two sons, Andrew R. Smith of Baltimore, and Roy Elden Smith of Mount Airy, Md.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Clarence Edward Smith.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Catherine E.W. Wachter

IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Catherine Eileen Wolfe Wachter, 79, of Old National Pike, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born March 13, 1918, in Garfield, Md., she was the daughter of the late Walter A. and Bessie Himes Wolfe.

Her husband, Mehrle N. Wachter, died in 1984.

She was a member of the 1934 class of Middletown High School.

She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in the New Market area, and Wachter Paving Co. for 30 years. In addition, she was a public sale clerk.

She was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church.

She was a charter member and past president of New Market Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, and formerly cooked meals for banquets and dinners for the fire company. She also was past secretary of County Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 347 of Frederick, Md., AARP, and an honorary member of New Market District Lions Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Halsey of Berlin, Md., and Beverly Hubble of Ijamsville; two sisters, Freda Zajic of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Oneita Brandenburg of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Goldie Kuhn, Evelyn Lewis and Ruth Harne; and four brothers, Oden Wolfe, Clifford Wolfe, Truman Wolfe and Willie B. Wolfe.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Harold Bell Wright II will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.; however friends may call at the funeral home between noon and 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Market Volunteer Fire Co., 90 W. Main St., P.O. Box 113, New Market, Md. 21774; or to the charity of one's choice.

Leila I. Stouffer

BOONSBORO - Leila Inez Stouffer, 92, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at the home.

Born Nov. 19, 1905, near Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late Daniel W. and Lettie Virginia Eakle Michael.

Her husband, Harry F. Stouffer, died in 1959.

She retired from Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church near Boonsboro.

She is survived by one daughter, Anita S. Worley of Bethesda, Md.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Kefauver; and two brothers, Austin Michael and Earl Michael.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Carolyn Boyce will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Randy L. Dick

WILLIAMSPORT - Randy Leroy Dick, 42, of 428 S. Artizan St., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 19, 1955, in Williamsport, he was the son of Agnes Marie Obitts Dick and the late Ellis Richard Dick.

He was employed by Lowe's of Hagerstown.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Nancy Jane Hartle and Kathy Susan Dick, both of Williamsport, and Abbie Marie Rhodes of Hagerstown; one brother, Ellis Eugene Dick of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 127 Britner Ave., Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate.

Friends may call at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
