James E. Thomas

BOONSBORO - James Ellsworth "Jim" Thomas, 78, of 7 Schoolhouse Court, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at his home.

Born March 2, 1919, in Monroe, Md., he was the son of the late Harry S. and Margaret Anna Shifler Thomas.

He retired in 1982, after 35 years of service with Shindel and Rohrer Hardware Store, Hagerstown. Earlier, he farmed in the Monroe area.

He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Keedysville, where he was a member of the men's class.

He is survived by one brother, Gerald W. Thomas of Hagerstown; one niece, Barbara S. Baker of Boonsboro; one nephew, Michael L. Thomas of Boonsboro; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. John W. Zsittnik will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 25, Keedysville, Md. 21756.

Brenda J. McAfee

Brenda Joyce McAfee, 46, of 219 N. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 25, 1951, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Fred and Marie Price Seville of Smithsburg.

She was employed by Roy Rogers.

She was a member of Smithsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Thomas E. McAfee; one daughter, Susan Boppe of St. Thomas, Pa.; one son, Timothy McAfee of Fayetteville, Pa.; two sisters, Cathy Brown of Hagerstown and Peggy Seville of Smithsburg; three brothers, Wayne Seville of Cascade, Fred Seville of Smithsburg and Jimmy Seville of Mont Alto, Pa.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Vickie Seville.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Allen Youngbar will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kathleen D. Rager

MAUGANSVILLE - Kathleen Dolores Rager, 55, of 13907 Green Mountain Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at her home.

Born Aug. 19, 1942, in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Bert and Ida Kloss Rosenbaum.

She was employed as a health care provider for many years.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Howard C. Rager; two daughters, Gwen L. Alger of Severn, Md., and Karen L. Keener of Hagerstown; one son, Steven M. Rager of Maugansville; six sisters, Anna Miller, Betty Yorena, Mildred Gore, Amelda Penrod and Mary Goas, all of Johnstown, and Barbara Angelo of Las Vegas; and one brother, Paul Rosenbaum of Johnstown.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert Rosenbaum Jr. and Phillip Rosenbaum.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Andrew S. Mohl as celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.

A viewing will be at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Ronald L. Kline Sr.

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Ronald Lee Kline Sr., 44, of 3429 Brethren Church Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at his home.

Born April 20, 1953, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of Helen E. Cline Kline of Middletown, Md., and the late Charles C. Kline Sr.

He was employed with Huffer and Huffer Construction in Broad Run, Md., for the last 25 years.

He was a member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club in Smithsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Delauter Kline; one daughter, Angie Kline, at home; one son, Ronald Lee Kline Jr., at home; two stepsons, Richard Lewis of Myersville and Brian Lewis of Smithsburg; three brothers, Charles C. Kline Jr. of Frederick and Thomas W. Kline and Jerry A. Kline, both of Middletown; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Harmony Church of the Brethren, Brethren Church Road, Harmony, Md. The Rev. Tracy Wiser and the Rev. Larry Fogle will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., in Myersville, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ronald Lee Kline Sr. Memorial Fund, c/o First United National Bank and Trust, P.O. Box 89, Myersville, Md. 21773.

Weston E. "Jack" Kendall

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - Weston E. "Jack" Kendall, 73, of Zephyrhills, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, in Zephyrhills.

Born Nov. 4, 1924, in Rockhall, Md., he was the son of the late Herman and Edith Kendall.

He retired from Mack Trucks in 1987.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Shank Kendall; four daughters, Alice Morrell of Williamsburg, Va., Linda Kendall of Centerville, Md., Beverly Danner of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Sherrie Davis of Hedgesville, W.Va.; five sons, Wes Kendall and Jack Dofflemyer of Hagerstown, Lonnie Dofflemyer of Zephyrhills, Kenneth Kendall of San Diego, and Gary Kendall of St. Ignace, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Services will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. Pastor Gregg Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Allan M. Creed

FREDERICK, Md. - Allan Marcel Creed, 89, of Frederick, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born April 15, 1908, in Montpelier, Vt., he was the son of the late William R. and Mary Guevin Creed.

He was a graduate of Northeastern University in Massachusetts.

He was the former comptroller of Potomac Edison Co., retiring in 1972. He had served as an accountant with Allegheny Power Systems, the parent company of Potomac Edison, before assuming the position of comptroller in 1958.

He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Frederick.

He had been active in community service, including United Way and League of Women Voters.

He is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Katherine Sackett Creed; two daughters, Mary Ellen Rhoderick of Frederick and Carol Anne Creed of Columbia, Md.; one son, David W. Creed of New York City; three grandsons; and one granddaughter.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Charles G. Beekley, associate pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Private burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, at a later date.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Naomi G. Fulmer

FREDERICK, Md. - Naomi Grace Fulmer, 74, of 327 S. Market St., died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 13, 1923, near Middletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late John Wilbur and Mary M. Shank Fulmer.

She worked at Frederick Tailoring Co. and Muse Tailoring Co. In 1984, she retired as a dormitory counselor from Maryland School for the Deaf.

She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Feagaville, Md.

She is survived by three sisters, Helen Snyder and Annabelle Cannon, both of Frederick and Viola Golden of Hancock; seven nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Fulmer; and one brother, William Fulmer.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. John F. Bromhal, pastor of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lukes Lutheran Church, 5524 Feagaville Lane, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Rush L. Wright Jr.

KEEDYSVILLE - Rush Lee Wright Jr., 90, of Keedysville, and formerly of Gaithersburg, Md., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born Aug. 2, 1907, near Gaithersburg, he was the son of the late Rush Lee and Rachel Ella Rawlins Wright Sr.

He was retired from the floor finishing trade. Earlier, he had been a dairy farmer near Gaithersburg.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Boonsboro.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Albright Wright, whom he married Oct. 15, 1933; four daughters, Ann W. Cole of Woodbine, Md., Nancy E. Higgins of Shade Gap, Pa., Claire E. Wright of Keedysville and Christina M. Wright of Medford, Ore.; four sons, Rush L. Wright III of Mount Airy, Md., A. Joseph Wright of Salisbury, Pa., Stephen A. Wright of Boonsboro and David C. Wright of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six sisters; four brothers; and two grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James Catholic Church, Main and Ford Streets, Boonsboro, Md. 21713.

Arrangements are by Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
