Mary C. Jacobs

Mary Charlotte Jacobs, 73, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born April 9, 1924, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Albert David and Mary Alice Norris Bartlett.

She was a member of Independent Bible Church of Martinsburg, W.Va.

She is survived by her husband, Donald M. Jacobs; two daughters, Martha Jane Gosnell and Mary Alice Hull, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Janet Bartlett Grove of Tennessee; one brother, J. Donald Bartlett of California; one granddaughter; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. at Independent Bible Church, W.Va. 9 West, Martinsburg. Pastor Mark Johnson will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Missionaries Al and Duke Butkavich or Missionaries Alvin and Kristen Hull, c/o Independent Bible Church, Route 6, Box 403, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Leroy N. Wise

Leroy Nelson Wise, 77, of 334 N. Cannon Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 12, 1920, in Hanover, Pa., he was the son of the late Ernest and Violet Knicely Wise.

His wife, Violet Moore Wise, preceded him in death.

He was a self-employed painter.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown.

He also was a member of Goodwill Athletic Club, Hagerstown.

He is survived by one stepdaughter, Gloria Crawford of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Jack Moore of Paw Paw, W.Va., and Harry Moore of Hagerstown; two sisters, Patricia Keefer and Peggy Garrett, both of Hanover; one grandson, Terry Moore of Hagerstown, whom he raised; one granddaughter; nieces and nephews; and a friend, Betty L. Dunkle of Hagerstown.

Services will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Fullen will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

Memorial donations may be made to Washington County Chapter of American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Lawrence L. Stottlemyer

Lawrence L. "Larry" Stottlemyer, 72, of Brinker Drive, Hagerstown, and formerly of Baltimore, Ferndale, Md., and Glen Burnie, Md., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 13, 1925, in Wolfsville, Md., he was the son of the late Calvert C. and Maude L. Eccard Stottlemyer.

His wife, Geneva Stottlemyer, died in 1979.

He retired from Whiting and Turner Construction Co. in Baltimore.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

He was a member of the Masons, Glen Burnie Coin Club, AARP and Teamsters Union.

He is survived by four sisters, Reba J. Shank, Ellen Baker, Margaret Lynch and Nancy Klick, all of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Bachtell and Alice Nuckles; and one brother, David Stottlemyer.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate. Burial will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park, Elkridge, Md.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., where a Masonic service will be conducted by Mediary Lodge 140 of Williamsport at 7:30 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 322 E. Antietam St., Suite 306B, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Leo M. Miller

FREDERICK, Md. - Leo McClelan Miller, 72, of 5030 Witmer Lane, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at Frederick Healthcare Center.

Born Nov. 6, 1925, in Westminster, Md., he was the son of the late Bradley Claude and Lillian Pauline Taylor Miller.

His first wife, Lois J. Kemp Miller, preceded him in death.

He was employed as a truck driver with Mitchell Transport in Union Bridge, Md., until his retirement.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Feagaville, Md.

He also was a member of AMVETS Post 2 of Frederick, and Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11, Frederick.

He was the last surviving member of the band The Legionnaires, which played in the Frederick area. He played the piano.

He is survived by his wife, Marcelene Long Miller; three children, Leona M. Dodson of Walkersville, Md., Linda A. Loun of Frederick, and Leo M. Miller Jr. of Middletown, Md.; one brother, Kohlman F. Miller of Frederick; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Miller; and one brother, Kenneth Miller.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St. in Middletown. The Rev. Kenneth Stalls will officiate. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Middletown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4 to 9 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home today.

Camille M. Robbins

GARRETTS MILL, Md. - Camille Maggie Robbins, 90, of Garretts Mill, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born July 10, 1907, in Garretts Mill, she was the daughter of the late Peter T. and Cicely Anderson Harris.

Her husband, Russell Robbins, died in 1987.

She was a graduate of Storer College in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education.

She was a retired school teacher with Brunswick Elementary School and previously with Frederick Elementary School. She also taught in several other counties in Maryland and West Virginia.

She was a member of Storer College Alumni Association and was honored by the National Park Service in Harpers Ferry with a special ceremony.

She was a lifelong member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Garretts Mill.

She was a member of Maryland State Teachers Association, a lifetime member of NAACP, and a member of Pleasant Valley Senior Citizens.

She is survived by one son, Russell Lee Robbins of Columbia, Md.; two grandchildren, Justin Robbins and Jenifer Robbins, both of Columbia; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Graham, Janette Norman and Ida Cartnail; and two brothers, Richard Harris and Alvin Harris.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Garretts Mill. The Rev. Eugene Holmes will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Garretts Mill.

The family will receive friends at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, today from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Donald L. Moser

Donald Lee Moser, 69, of 929 Linwood Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 23, 1928, in Zittlestown, he was the son of the late Raymond K. Moser and Beatrice S. Moser Spalding. He was the stepson of the late Carlton G. Spalding.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 30 years, retiring in 1985.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of National Association of Letter Carriers 443; Disabled American Veterans; Junior Fire Co. since 1949; and AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Erma A. Moser; four daughters, Martha J. Crouse of Appling, Ga., Tina L. Buratty of Germantown, Md., Donna L. Warrenfeltz and Kimberly D. Turner, both of Hagerstown; one son, Donald L. Kelley of Arizona; one stepdaughter, Victoria L. White of Pottstown, Pa.; one stepson, Donald L. Grove Jr. of Waynesboro, Pa.; one sister, Doris Jane Stoner of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Aranda Drury.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Marcus A. Earp will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Zella V. Shifler

BOONSBORO - Zella V. Shifler, 93, of Boonsboro, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Michael Manor Nursing Home, Gettysburg, Pa.

Born April 28, 1904, in Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late John Hamilton and Sadie E. Schildtnecht Kepler.

Her husband, Atlee A. Shifler, died in 1986.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church, Boonsboro.

She is survived by one son, Lee K. Shifler of Boonsboro; one brother, Cyrus R. Kepler of Boonsboro; one granddaughter, Deanna L. Nalley of Hagerstown; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sarah Lou Shifler; one sister, Olive Angle; and four brothers, John L. Kepler, Harold M. Kepler, Russell L. Kepler and Wheeler W. Kepler.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. John W. Zsittnik will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open after noon on Sunday.

Pauline Wasserman

Pauline Wasserman, 85, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Detroit, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at her daughter's home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1912, in London, England.

Her husband, Jack Wasserman, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane Silas of Hagerstown; and one brother, Max Silverman of California.

Services were held Sunday, Dec. 28, at the Hebrew Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Hebrew Memorial Park.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to Northwest Fellowship, B. Bonner, 19463 Lancashire, Detroit, Mich. 48223.
