Mayme V. Weller

HANCOCK - Mayme V. Weller, 79, of Myers St., died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Born Oct. 17, 1918, in Round Top, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Rosalie Munday Maconaughey.

Her husband, Benjamin Edward Weller, died in 1970.

She retired from E.J. Fennell Inc. in Hagerstown, and was a former employee of Jacob Brothers in Hancock.

She was a member of Hancock United Methodist Church.

She also was a member of Hancock Lioness Club and Hancock Senior Citizens.

She is survived by three daughters, Doreen Swisher of Hancock, Gloria Carter of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Carolyn Murfin of Hagerstown; two sons, Donald Weller of Hancock, James Weller of Ellenwood, Ga.; three sisters, Alice McBee, Shelvy Yost and Hattie Lineweaver, all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one brother, Thomas Maconaughey of Berkeley Springs; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Lou Weller; one son, John Wayne Weller; two sisters, Jessie Kyne and Anna Stotler; five brothers, Elvey Ambrose, Henry Ambrose, Willard Maconaughey, Doug Maconaughey and Charles "Darly" Maconaughey; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Jack Hiles will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Hollow Road, in Hancock.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open from noon to 9 p.m. today.

Joan L.G. Marshall

HYATTSVILLE, Md. - Joan L. Griffith Marshall, 47, of 6000 42nd Ave., Apartment 109, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Va.

Born Jan. 21, 1950, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late William E. and Mary Ellen Marshall McCoy.

She was employed as office manager for Moving Masters in Cheverly, Md.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Marshall Jr.; three stepsons, Jason M. Swartzback of Silver Spring, Md., John R. Swartzback and Joseph R. Marshall III, both of Ridgely, W.Va.; three sisters, Betty Parson of Fredericksburg, Va., Susie Williams of Easley, S.C., and Mary Ellen Eaton of Brookville, Md.; one brother, Roger L. McCoy of Mount Airy, Md.; seven nieces; five nephews; six great-nieces; and eight great-nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Samples Manor Church of God, in Sharpsburg. The Rev. Gary Getridge will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. However, for the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Inova Fairfax Hospital Heart Center, 3300 Gallows Road, Falls Church, Va. 22042-3300.

Dora L.L. Eakle

Dora Lee Litten Eakle, 81, of Ontario Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 23, 1916, in Quicksburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Elsie Newland Litten.

Her husband, George Albert Eakle, died in 1972.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Downsville Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn M. Hartle of Keedysville; five sisters, Frances Litten of Williamsport, Ruth Martin of Martinsburg, W.Va., Mary Eikelberger of Chattanooga, Tenn., Hazel Long of Williamsport, and Lila Mae Haywood of Hagerstown; three brothers, Ben Litten of Boonsboro, Rowland Litten and Norman Litten, both of Hagerstown; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Leila Litten; and four brothers, Claude Litten, Sidney Litten, John Litten and William Litten.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Stanley Barkdoll will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bakersville, Md.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ethel V. Lauffer

Ethel Viola Lauffer, 93, of 33 W. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 18, 1904, in South Fork, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William B. and Nora E. Swartzentruver Lewis.

Her husband, George F. Lauffer Sr., died in 1981.

She attended St. James Brethren Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Baker of Hagerstown; one sister, Bernadine Smith of Brunswick, Md.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, George F. Lauffer Jr., and Bruce V. Lauffer; one sister, Evelyn C. Urban; and one brother, William H. Lewis.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road, St. James. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Manor Cemetery in Tilghmanton.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road, St. James, Md. 21781.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Edna R. Hoover

Edna R. Hoover, 66, of 18510 Sherbrook Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 4, 1931, in Columbus, Ga., she was the daughter of the late David and Evelyn R. Yarbrough Braswell.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph C. Hoover Sr.; two daughters, Dawn C. Beckley of Hagerstown and Peggy Barnes of Raleigh, N.C.; three sons, D. Mark Hoover of Williamsport, D. Clark Hoover of Smithsburg, and D. Keith Hoover of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Casandra Railey of Suwanne, Ga.; one stepson, Gregory A. Hoover of Hagerstown; one stepbrother, Gerald Bedgood of Columbus; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ralph C. Hoover Jr.

Services will be today at the convenience of the family. The Rev. James R. Stauffer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Paramount Brethren in Christ Church, 19106 Long Meadow Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Granville T. Easterday Sr.

BOONSBORO - Granville T. Easterday Sr., 94, of Greenbrier Road, in the village of Mount Lena, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at his home.

Born July 9, 1903, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Jacob and Edna Reeder Easterday.

He was employed by Marquette, retiring in 1967. He farmed for many years in Washington County.

He was a member of Church of Christ and Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Easterday, whom he married March 3, 1929; three daughters, Shirley Schroyer, Catherine Moser and Beverly Weigand, all of Boonsboro; four sons, Granville T. Easterday, Leonard Easterday, Jacob Easterday and Ronald Easterday, all of Boonsboro; one sister, Mildred Martz; one brother, John Easterday; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Minister Bryan Bailey and Pastor Keith Acker will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Edward J. Sharon

Edward James Sharon, 63, of 10838 Oak Forest Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 18, 1934, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Mary Ann Colbert Sharon of Williamsport and the late Edward Fripo Sharon.

He was a 1952 graduate of St. Mary's High School..

He retired from Mack Trucks Jan. 2, 1987, where he was a production coordinator. At the time of his death, he was a realtor with ERA Pro Realty.

He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 26, 1956 to Jan. 30, 1962.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He was president of Williamsport High School Booster Club from 1980 to 1997. He was president of Junior League Football Washington County.

He was a member of Management Club of Mack Trucks, American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro and AARP.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joann E. Flanagan Sharon; one daughter, Andrea K. Smith of Hagerstown; one son, Joseph C. Sharon of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Charles M. "Mickey" Calhoun of Salisbury, Md., and Duane D. Calhoun of Frederick, Md.; five grandchildren; and a number of cousins.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Fullen will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 322-324 E. Antietam St., Suite 306-B, Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Carl V. Bowman

Carl Victor Bowman, 85, of 1213 Pinecrest Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 10, 1912, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clarence Roy and Hazel Knepper Bowman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea Elizabeth Maugans Bowman, in 1985.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 39 years.

He was a life member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

He was a member of AARP; and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandra Anderson of Spring Grove, Pa.; one sister, Martha LaRue Delosier of Las Vegas; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; nieces and nephews; and a friend, Helen Baker of Hagerstown.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David B. Kaplan will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to the charity of one's choice.

Rush L. Wright Jr.

A Memorial Mass for Rush L. Wright Jr., who died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Reeders Memorial Home, Boonsboro, has been rescheduled. It will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Main and Ford streets, Boonsboro, with the Rev. George A. Limmer as celebrant. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Ruth V. Hoffman

HANCOCK - Services for Ruth Virginia Hoffman, 78, of National Pike, who died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, will be today at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Robert G. Brennan Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas' Episcopal Cemetery, Hancock.
