April 17, 2000

Mary Barbara Ammer of Centreville formerly of Baltimore, MD. died Monday April 17, 2000 at the Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville, MD. She was 94.

Born on September 28, 1905 in Budapest, Hungary. She came to the United States when she was seven with her family and settled in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1941 she moved to Baltimore, MD. with her husband Sylvester Ammer, who predeceased her in 1968. Ms. Ammer worked as a switchboard operator for Lutheran Hospital and later for Baltimore Gas & Electric. She retired in 1970.

She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Baltimore, MD., Catholic Daughters of America, was a volunteer for the Baltimore U.S.O. and enjoyed crafts and making dolls and other baby things for friends.

She is survived by a daughter A. Amelia “Millie” Eufemia of Easton, MD.

Graveside services will be held 11AM on Wednesday April 19, 2000 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Annapolis, MD.

Eleanor Malvina Lauzon Hamilton of Chester, MD died at the Anne Arundel Medical Center on Monday, April 17, 2000. She was 78.

Mrs. Hamilton was born in Bristol, CT on November 28, 1921, the daughter of the late Andrew S. and Gertrude Plante Lauzon. Mrs. Hamilton was raised in Montreal Canada, where she later received her nursing degree at St. Joseph Hospital. She married James William Hamilton of Baltimore, MD on April 4, 1946. After raising her family in Baltimore and Stevensville, she helped her husband in the Sunpaper delivery business. In January 1966 they moved to Stevensville, MD, where the delivery business grew to include the Baltimore New American. They retired in 1983. Mr. Hamilton predeceased her on January 10, 1993.

Mrs. Eleanor Hamilton is survived by: three sons; James William Hamilton, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Michael Wayne Hamilton of Stevensville, MD and Robert Wesley Hamilton of Idaho; a daughter, Kathleen Glynn of Queenstown, MD; two sisters Denise Brooks of Swanton, VT and Madeleine Lacoste of Tehachap, CA and two brothers, Andrew Lauzon of Montreal, Canada and Henry Lauzon of Swanton, VT. As well as four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the home of Michael Hamilton in Stevensville, MD on Friday, April 21, 2000 at 5:00 PM.

Memorial contributions can be made to Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department c/o Ambulance Fund P.O. Box 27 Stevensville, MD 21666.

Evelyn Louise Bain of Stevensville died on Monday, April 17, 2000.
She was 77.

Born October 7, 1922 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Ethel Plummer Heddinger. She attended school in Baltimore, MD. Ms. Bain worked as a waitress for various restaurants in the Baltimore area, until moving to Stevensville, MD in 1984 to reside with her brother, the late John F. Heddinger, Jr.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2000 at 11:00 AM at Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore, MD. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to American Heart Association, Queen Anne’s Co. Chapter, 300 Hope Rd. Centreville, MD. 21617.

Memorial Service Saturday, April 22, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 408 South Liberty Street, Centreville, MD, 21617 (410-758-1151)

Interment at Church Hill Cemetery following the service.

Reception for family, friends and colleagues at her home following interment.

April 16, 2000

A funeral liturgy for Edna Elizabeth Dyer of Easton will be celebrated at the St. Michaels Catholic Chapel in St. Michaels on Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at 10:00 AM. She died on Sunday, April 16, 2000 at the William Hill Manor, Easton. She was 93.

Born on July 27, 1906 in Mechanicsville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Wade Murphy. In 1927, she married John S. Dyer and thay made their home in Washington D.C. until moving to Camp Springs. Mr. Dyer died in 1976. In 1979, she moved to Easton where she was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Easton.

Mrs. Dyer is survived by three daughters, Doris M. Buckler of Easton, Catherine M. Edelen of Royal Oak, and Janet D. Fulcher of Mechanicsville; 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A grandson, Ronald Alan Edelen, is deceased.

Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Tuesday, April 18, 2000 from 7-9:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

April 15, 2000

Doris A. Macneal, of Easton, formerly of Silver Springs, FL died at the Wm. Hill Health Care Center, Easton, on Saturday, April 15, 2000. She was 88.

Born in Baltimore, MD, June 30, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Charles Martin and Adele V. Letcher Struven. After graduating from Forest Park High School in 1930 and the Brubaker Business College, she worked for ten years for the family fish by-products business in Baltimore known as the Charles M. Struven Company. Following the close of this business, she worked for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. from 1941 until 1954. She then cared for a family member before moving to Florida where she worked for the Tommy Bartlett Deer Ranch until 1964. In 1965, she was again employed by the Federal Government until shortly before her marriage to Burgess C. Macneal in 1973. They made their home in Reston, VA until 1975 when he retired and they moved to Silver Springs, Fla. where he died in 1989. While living in Silver Springs, she was active in hospital work and the Civic Theatre. In May of 1997, she moved to Easton where she was a member of the AARP.

Mrs. Macneal is survived by two step-sons, LeRoy C. Macneal of Chester, MD and Burgess C. Macneal, Jr. of Gold Bond, VA and two step-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Auditorium of the Wm. Hill Manor, Easton, on Saturday, April 29th at 2 P.M.

Private burial will be at Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ocala Civic Theatre, 4337 East Silver Springs, Blvd., Silver Springs, FL 34478.

Elizabeth Short of Chestertown, Md. died April 15, 2000 at the Kent & Queen Annes Hospital, Chestertown, Md. She was 68.

Mrs. Short was born in W. Marlboro, Pa., the daughter of the late Howard and Josephine Hilton Short. Mrs. Short worked as a clerk for the Ames Department store for several years before retiring in 1990. She enjoyed the outdoors and traveling around to different yard sales. She enjoyed her friends and family and loved to play board and card games. She also loved to work in her garden and caring for her flowers. Mrs. Short is pre-deceased by her husband Paul Edgar Short in 1990.

Mrs. Short is survived by 1 sister, Susie Miller and her husband Robert from West

Grove, Pa. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday April 21st 2000 at 11 am from the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress Street Millington, Md. Friends may call one hour prior.

Interment will follow services and will be held at the Camden cemetery in Camden, De.

In Lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Kent & Queen Annes Rescue Squad Box 126 Chestertown, Md.

April 14, 2000

David Leroy Bremer of Westover, MD died on Friday, April 14, 2000 at the Perry Point Medical Center, Perry Point, MD. He was 56.

Born in Jacksonville, FL on January 7, 1944, he was the son of the late Rev. Frederick L. and Ruth Trask Bremer. Following high school he graduated from Anderson College in South Caroline in 1964. He attended Stillman College in Alabama before entering the U.S. Navy. Following his release from active duty, he worked in several job capacities including the Mayors Office of Cultural Affairs in Boston, MA, the Jacksonville Navy Credit Unit, the Editor of the Crisfield Times and for the Princess Anne Reality.

Mr. Bremer is survived by two sisters, Karen B. Chatham of Preston and Janice B. Miller of Westover; a brother, Mark F. Bremer of Riverside, CA and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Hurlock on Thursday, April 20, 2000 at 1:00 PM.

Burial will be private in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1306, Easton, MD 21601 or to the Wicomico Presbyterian Church, Broad Street, Salisbury, MD 21801.

Paul E. Graybeal, of Easton, died at The University Hospital, Baltimore, on Friday, April 14, 2000 of a pulmonary hemorrhage . He was 80.

Born in Winston-Salem, NC, May 31, 1919, he was the son of the late Glenn H. and Cora Wells Graybeal. He grew up on a farm in Cecil County, Maryland. After graduating from Rising Sun High School in 1936 and from Tome School in Port Deposit in 1937, he graduated from Yale University in 1941 with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Mr. Graybeal joined Hercules Incorporated where he worked until his retirement in 1983. During the war years, he worked in Ordnance Plants in Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Kansas. Following the war, he worked at plant locations in Virginia, New Jersey and Mississippi until he moved to Wilmington, DE in 1962 where he held several management positions.

In 1983, Mr. Graybeal and his wife moved to Talbot County where he was very active in St. Mark's United Methodist Church, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, the Miles River Power Squadron, the Eastern Shore Council of the U. S. Navy League, the Talbot Country Club, the Easton Rotary Club, the Poplar Island Yacht Club, St. Mark's Home for the Aged and the Easton Day Care Center.

Mr. Graybeal is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Grizzard whom he married in 1947; a daughter, Carolyn Graybeal and her husband, Gregory Chetel and their two children, Lauren and Daniel, of West Newton, MA and a son, David P. Graybeal and his wife, Alice Kung, and their three sons, Alexander, Christopher and William of Scarsdale, NY.

Other survivors include two brothers, Dr. C. Edward Graybeal of Milford, DE and John C. Graybeal of Hampstead, MD and three sisters, Vivian G. Rash of Wilmington, DE, Dorothy Fishel of Arbutus, MD. and Ruby Hickman of Dover, DE.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Easton, on Monday, April 17th, at 1 P.M. Burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, Md. 21601

April 13, 2000

Mrs. Dorothy Jane Pizzi, of Salisbury, MD, formerly of College Park, MD died on Thursday, April 13, 2000 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Calvert, Jr. of Oxford, MD. She was 81.

Born in Scottsdale, PA, September 19, 1918, she was the daughter of the late David Hayes and Nellie Stuart Baker Wingrove. After graduating from Brownsville High School in 1937, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked as a secretary for the Dept. of Transportation at the Pentagon. In November of 1946, she married Vincent Pizzi and they made their home in Lewisdale, Md. before moving to College Park. In 1967, she was employed as a secretary for Catholic University, a position she held until retiring in the mid-1980's.

A member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Salisbury and a former member of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in Hyattsville, she was a member and past President of the D.C. Auxiliary Chapter of the 42nd Infantry (Rainbow) Division Assoc. and a past Chairman of the National Reunion of the 42nd Infantry Division Association Auxiliary.

Her greatest joys in life were her husband, children and grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Vernon David Pizzi and his wife, Susan of Davidsonville, MD; two daughters, Patricia Jane Green and her husband, John, of Issue, Md. and Barbara Anne Calvert and her husband, Dr. Gordon Calvert, Jr. of Oxford, Md.; a sister, Ruth Wingrove Gordon of Warwick, R. I. and nine grandchildren, Julie M. Pizzi, David V. Pizzi, Joseph F. Pizzi, Alyson M. Green, John V. Green, Brittany J. Green, Cristina M. Calvert, Jessica A. Calvert and Andrew G. Calvert.
