Stella A. McLymond

WILLIAMSPORT - Stella Allen McLymond, 99, of Williamsport, and formerly of Hancock, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Williamsport Nursing Home.

Born May 29, 1898, in Parish, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Loretus H. and LaPearl Allen McLymond.

She attended school in Parish. She was a graduate of Atlantic Union College, South Lancaster, Mass., majoring in education.

She taught grammar school for 48 years in public and private schools in Elmira, N.Y., and South Lancaster.

She was a member of Berkeley Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and was life member of the Seventh-day Adventist faith.

She and her sister moved to the White Oaks Center in the Timber Ridge area east of Hancock 19 years ago to be part of their church's health and reconditioning retreat center.

She was an active supporter of Berkeley Springs Seventh-day Adventist School.

She is survived by her sister, Urlla Letha McLymond of Williamsport, with whom she lived.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at Berkeley Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church, Berkeley Springs. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Berkeley Spring Seventh-day Adventist School, Route 1, Box 44, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.

Robert K. Tritt

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Robert Kenneth Tritt, 64, of 23 Fox Rock Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at his home.

Born Aug. 14, 1933, in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Russell and Erma Wolfe Tritt.

He was a 1951 graduate of Lemoyne High School, Lemoyne, Pa. He was a 1960 graduate of Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pa.

After college, he was employed by the Internal Revenue Service and retired in 1988. He received Maryland CPA certification in 1971. For the past six years, he worked part time for W.F. Park and Co. and Bachtel and Co., certified public accounting firms in Hagerstown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in Asmara, Eritrea, Africa, for two years as a member of the Army Security Agency.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, Md. He was a member of the Spiritual Enrichment Sunday School Class, Christian Fellowship Committee and Bible Study group. He was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Myersville, where he served as the church treasurer for 12 years.

He was an active member of Myersville Lions Club since 1963 and served in all of its governing offices. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American State Board of Public Accountancy and Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Hagerstown. He also was a member of Beaver Creek Golf Club and Middletown Golf League.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alice M. Rafftesaeth Tritt; one daughter, Andrea Tritt Shears of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; two sons, Robert Tritt Jr. of Charles Town, W.Va., and Benjamin Tritt of Salem, Va.; one sister, Marjorie Tritt Lehman of Millersville, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 107 W. Main St., Middletown. The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Visitation will follow. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 306, Middletown, Md. 21769.

Arrangements are by Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville.

Homer W. Palmer

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Homer Washington Palmer, 73, of 8888 Triumphent Court, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born May 12, 1924, in Thurmont, Md., he was the son of the late Albert Charles and Naomi Catherine Ridenour Palmer.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Marie Burgess Palmer, in 1970.

He retired from IBM in 1990. He then was employed by Tim May Security Co. and later by St. Moritz Security Co. until the time of his death.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater.

He was a member of Emmanuel Alliance Church of Frederick.

He was a member of Francis Scott Key Post 11 American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Ernest Palmer, whom he married on March 24, 1974; one son, Christopher S. Palmer of Concord, N.C.; one grandson, Brendon C. Palmer; two nieces; one nephew; and three great-nieces.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Emmanuel Alliance Church, New Design Road at Ladd Lane, Frederick. The Rev. Stephen M. Kroh will officiate. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Park Cemetery, Linden Hills, Frederick.

The family will receive friends at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, today from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 9 p.m. and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Gerry A. Smith

Gerry Ann Smith, 58, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Apt. 715, Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 14, 1939, in Athens, Ga., she was the daughter of Paul C. Northcraft of Cumberland, Md., and the late Margaret Elizabeth Fuller Northcraft.

She was an employee of Jim's Always Restaurant for 14 years.

She was a volunteer for National Little League Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Thurman L. Smith; two daughters, Louann M. Ewanick of Boonsboro and Melissa K. Crabtree of Hagerstown; one son, Robin L. Smith of Savannah, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Pastor Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, SanMar.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for her medical expenses, c/o Melissa K. Crabtree, 17 Bethlehem Court, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Phyllis D. Eves

Phyllis Derr Eves, 77, of 11828 Linbar Drive, Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 3, 1920, in Duffields, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Ames and Sophia Derr Kibler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson H. Eves, in 1989.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one brother, Charles A. "Jack" Kibler, of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Terelyn Norman.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Christopher J. Chantelau will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.

M. Norma Hayes

M. Norma Hayes, 67, of South Potomac Street, Hagerstown, and formerly of Cavetown, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 5, 1930, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Senor Reisher and Devonna Caroline Hornbecker Everetts.

Her husband, Harold W. Hayes, died in 1987.

She retired from Maryland Ribbon Co. in Hagerstown after 27 years, and was employed by Charlotte's Home in Boonsboro for the last five years.

She worked as a volunteer for Washington County Hospital Auxiliary for the last eight years.

She is survived by one son, Eddie Kuhn of Montana; one stepdaughter, Linda Kline of Cavetown; one step-granddaughter, Tammy Magaha of Fort Myers, Fla.; nieces and nephews; and a friend, Robert Artz of Hagerstown.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. Pastor Paul Heefner will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, 251 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

J. Fred Caton

BIG POOL, Md. - J. Fred Caton, 80, of 11203 Big Pool Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 10, 1917, in Brandonville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Walter and Mary Alice Younkin Caton.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Edith Rasley Dean Caton, in 1989.

He had been employed by Fairchild Aircraft for 25 years. He also owned and operated Caton Grocery Store, Big Pool, for 19 years. Later, he retired as a forest ranger from Maryland State Department of Forest and Parks.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Clear Spring.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Lee Caton-Miles and Bonnie Rae Lucas, both of Big Pool; four grandsons, Darren Lucas and Devin Lucas, both of Big Pool, and Jim Snyder and Chuck Snyder, both of Orlando, Fla.; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Gallagher; and a brother, Howard Caton.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 14106 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Steven Amundson and the Rev. Mary Amundson will officiate. Burial will be in Shanktown Cemetery, Big Pool.

Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Ina D. Spade

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Ina Daisy Spade, 86, of 3387 Red Oak Court, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her home.

Born March 15, 1911, in Bedford County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late J. Albert and Mary Gordon Clark.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Stanley Spade, in 1979.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Frederick, Md.; and attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Burkittsville, Md.

She was a member of Middletown Senior Citizens; and Burkittsville Food and Friends. She also was the author of several books.

She is survived by children, Stanley A. Spade of Friendswood, Texas, John R. Spade of Ozark, Ala., Charlotte I. Robbins of Grand Junction, Colo., Patsy A. Luhn of Boonsboro, Helen D. Hildebrand of Frederick, Pearl N. Ingram of Kitzingen, Germany, Beulah S. Bidle of Middletown, Sandra M. Gowen of Bloomington, Ill., Hope E. Lewis of Wolfsville and Perry G. Spade of Glencoe, Ky.; three foster children, Rick Socks of Myersville, Md., Karen Miller and Terry Bunch; two sisters, Minerva Eichelberger of Everett, Pa., and Nettie Hammond of Chambersburg, Pa.; one brother, Blair Clark of Chambersburg; 26 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond Charles Spade and Harry Spade; a daughter, Betty Ruth Spade; a grandson, Nathan Spade; and four brothers, Harvey Clark, Henry Clark, Ellis Clark and Glenn Clark.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Burkittsville. The Rev. George M. Harpel will officiate. Burial will be in Little Rose Hill Cemetery, Clear Spring.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
