Betty J. Oberholzer

Betty Jane Oberholzer, 66, of 538 N. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, who died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, is survived by a sister, Josephine E. Divelbiss of Hagerstown.

Edna M. Smith

Edna Mae Smith, 92, of 11944 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at the home of her caregiver, Betty L. Verdier of Smithsburg.

Born Aug. 4, 1905, in Wolfsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Laura E. Gaver Harshman.

Her husband, Earl Max Smith, died in 1986.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville and Bethel N.M.S.S. Friendship Class.

She was a member of Chewsville Senior Citizens.

She is survived by three sons, Thomas H. Smith of Springfield, Va., Nevin L. Smith and Donald E. Smith, both of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Arthur Smith; one sister, Grace Harp; and two brothers, Harry Harshman and Albert Harshman.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Md. The Rev. John Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Myersville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 37, Chewsville, Md. 21721.

Maude K. Ambrose

Maude Kidwiler Ambrose, 99, formerly of 346 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Reeder Memorial Home, Boonsboro.

Born Nov. 24, 1898, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Newton Emmanual and Ida Estelle Moore Kidwiler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ercelle F. Ambrose, in 1963.

She was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Virginia L. Barger of Hagerstown; two grandsons, Barry L. Barger of Independent Hill, Va., and Darryl K. Barger of Elkridge, Md.; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Keplinger.

Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Harold P. Atkins will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Ruth C. Frenier

KATY, Texas - Ruth C. Frenier, 85, of Katy, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, in Houston.

Born in Spokane, Wash., she was the daughter of the late Milton V. Collins and Nellie A. Thorman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Frenier, in 1985.

She graduated from Eastern High School, Washington, D.C.

She retired from the Federal Housing Authority.

She was a member of Blue Ridge Nutrition Center, Smithsburg; and Senior Citizens of St. Camillus.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne Frenier of Katy and Dennis Frenier of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Camillus Catholic Church, Silver Spring, Md. Father Alban officiated. Burial was in Washington National Cemetery, Suitland, Md. Graveside services were conducted by Brother Henry of St. Camillus Catholic Church, Silver Spring.

Visitation was Friday, Jan. 9, at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Md. 20904.

Mildred A. Schlotterbeck

Mildred Arlene Schlotterbeck, 81, of 94 Park Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her home.

Born June 22, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry Victor and Ruth Souders Smith.

She was a member of VFW 1936 of Hagerstown; American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary; and Eagles 694 of Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband, William R. Schlotterbeck; one son, Ronald Lee Schlotterbeck of Hagerstown; two sisters, Betty French of Brunswick, Md. and June Smith of Hagerstown; one brother, William Smith of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jack Eugene Schlotterbeck.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James B. Adams

James Byron Adams, 83, of 10617 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at 10611 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown.

Born April 24, 1914, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John and Mary Ann Rees Adams.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah A. Adams, in 1985.

He was a retired farmer.

He was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.

He was a member of Woodmen of the World; and a former member of Washington County Taxpayers Association.

He is survived by five daughters, Wanda Winner, Althea Rase and Ora Lee Clark, all of Hagerstown, Marilyn Upchurch of Reston, Va., and Kay Barilla of Baltimore; one foster daughter, Sheryll Kees of Clear Spring; three foster sons, Greg Snyder, Charles Snyder and Harold Snyder, all of Hagerstown; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Adams and Margaret Butts; and one brother, John Adams.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Jaum F. Kline

Jaum Frances Kline, 83, of 729 Security Road, Hagerstown, who died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Francesca Novelli Prosperi.

James P. Winghart

James P. Winghart, 69, of 19826 Bennie Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at his home.

Born July 16, 1928, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Lutcenkercher Winghart.

He was a graduate of Perry High School, Pittsburgh.

He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1995.

He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean War.

He had attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 171 Retirees.

He is survived by his wife, Esther K. Winghart; one daughter, Gloria J. Martin of Hagerstown; one son, Jack W. Martin of Chewsville, Md.; one sister, Ruth Carlson of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Robert Winghart of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters; and two brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Thomas J. Stottlemyer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Garnet W. Reilly

Garnet William Reilly, 76, of 622 George St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 13, 1921, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late William Frank and Mary Catherine Ridgely Reilly.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Emma Reilly, in 1994.

He was retired from Craig's Paving.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Ragland of Hagerstown; one son, Thomas E. Reilly of Hagerstown; two sisters, Martha Steward of Winona, Miss., and Helen Carson of Stephenson, Mich.; one brother, Paul Reilly of Kingsport, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Angela Denise Reilly, in 1986.

Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. James Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be provided at the cemetery by American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sarah V. Jennings

WILLIAMSPORT - Sarah Virginia Jennings, 87, of 16709 Hampton Road, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.

Born July 13, 1910, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Bertha Hoffmaster Cronise.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Milburn Jennings, in 1991.

She was a 1929 graduate of Boonsboro High School; and a 1930 graduate of Columbia Business College.

She retired in 1978, after 44 years, with Creasey Co. in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, where she was a member of Grace and Grit Sunday School Class.

She is survived by one niece and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth C. Benner; and two brothers, Bud Cronise and Paul N. Cronise.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open after noon on Sunday.
