Hazel P. Hayes
Hazel Poole Hayes, 73, of 17703 Woodcrest Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 1, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur L. Poole and Rhoda M. Scheller.
She received her associate's degree from Hagerstown Junior College; bachelor's degree from Shepherd College; and master's degree from Shippensburg University.
She taught business education at Williamsport High School; and retired from Washington County Board of Education after serving as a guidance counselor at Smithsburg High School.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Hagerstown.
She is survived by her husband, Clayton A. Hayes of Hagerstown; two sons, Clayton A. Hayes III of Hagerstown and Larry A. Hayes of Waynesboro, Pa.; two brothers, Arthur L. Poole Jr. of Ocala, Fla., and Norman Poole of Hagerstown; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Viola G. Bloyer
WILLIAMSPORT - Viola Grace Swope Bloyer, 104, of 16505 Virginia Ave., Homewood Retirement Center, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born June 5, 1893, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Hester A. Kline Swope.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, G. William Bloyer, in 1970.
She was a 1914 graduate of Washington County High School.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of Lutheran Church Women.
She was a member of Dry Run Homemakers Club; and Clear Spring Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one daughter, Mildred M. Powell of Clear Spring; one son, W. Robert Bloyer of Hagerstown; four granddaughters, Linda R. Bloyer of Upper Marlboro, Md., Dr. Rebecca B. Masters of Hershey, Pa., Dana M. Powell of Richmond, Va., and Wendy S. Fraker of Williamsport; one grandson, Jason W. Powell of Laurel, Md.; and three great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evalyn Miles and Beulah Bachtell; and one brother, Harry Swope Sr.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 14106 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Steven Amundson and the Rev. Willard F. Rahn will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring.
Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Lucy May Rohrer, 71, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Potomac Towers, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 23, 1926, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Edward and Florence Elizabeth Sharer Young.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by five daughters, Leah Suzanne Detwiler and Doritta Helen Bloom, both of Hagerstown, Linda Lou Anderson of Greencastle, Pa., Mary Christine Hoff of Mercersburg, Pa., and Joel Darlene Marshall of Sharpsburg; two sons, Philip Henry Rohrer Jr. of Smithsburg and Micaiah Rohrer of Five Points, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Easterday and Fay Boward; and four brothers, Edward Young, Charles Young, Ned Young and Jack Young.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. The Rev. John Angle will officiate.

Katherine E. Braidy
Katherine Elizabeth Braidy, 93, of Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born June 5, 1904, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Sadie Ellen Cline Chaney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Benjamin Braidy.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Frances E. Braidy of Westampton, N.J.; one sister, Madeline Chaney of Hagerstown; two brothers, Henry Chaney of Hagerstown and Roy Chaney; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Percy Griffith; five sisters, Lenora Chaney, Lola Chaney, Ethel Chaney, Mary Chaney and Sally Chaney; and six brothers, Carl Chaney, Albert Chaney, Bill Chaney, Harry Chaney, Howard Chaney and Raymond Chaney.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Walter Clark will officiate.

Wilmer J. Oberholzer
Wilmer Jacob Oberholzer, 77, of 32 S. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 9, 1920, in Paramount, he was the son of the late Aaron and Vallie Barkdoll Oberholzer.
He was a graduate of Hagerstown Business College.
He was employed by Pangborn Corp. and retired in 1985 after 41 years of employment.
He was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 378 and Eagles Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Bond Oberholzer; three sisters, Vada Henesy of Hagerstown, Inez Culp of Goshen, Ind., and Rachel Horst of Chambersburg, Pa.; and one brother, Raymond Oberholzer of Shady Grove, Pa.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Josephine Grove.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean Miller and the Rev. Nelson L. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

THURMONT, Md. - Mildred Evelyn Dennis Willhide, 80, of Kelbaugh Road, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Michael Manor Nursing Home, Gettysburg, Pa.
She was born Oct. 21, 1917, in Frederick County, Md.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John R. Bowers and Walter Joseph Willhide.
She was a retired nurse's aide at Mount St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, Md.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Shrine Parrish and Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Emmitsburg.
She was a member of Thurmont American Legion Post 168 Auxiliary.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Lorraine Wivell of Rocky Ridge, Md., and Shirley M. Little of Emmitsburg; one brother, Russell Dennis of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; and 32 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Robert Bowers; and one grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Shrine Parrish, Emmitsburg. The Rev. Leo R. Tittler will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Shrine Cemetery, Emmitsburg.
Friends may call at Skiles Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m., where a Christian wake will be at 8 p.m.
The family will meet at the funeral home Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. to go to the church.
