Mary M. Reeder
ADAMSTOWN, Md. - Mary Marceline Reeder, 84, of 5329 Mountville Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born May 19, 1913, in Broad Run, she was the daughter of the late Carlton and Florence Boyer Beachley.
She was employed as a sewing operator at Sagner's in Frederick until her retirement.
She was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Burkittsville, Md.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd M. Reeder; two sons, Sherman B. Reeder of Jefferson, Md., and R. Marlin Reeder of Arlington, Va.; one sister, Evelyn Younkins of Marriottsville, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in Burkittsville. The Rev. Terry Greiser will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from noon to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Jack M. Eichelberger
Jack Mervin Eichelberger, 66, of 15 Avalon Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 26, 1931, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Richard Derr and Lenna Bowers Eichelberger.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was employed with Beaver Mechanical Contractors Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 1991.
He is survived by a friend, Evelyn Mull of Hagerstown; two daughters, Carmen Potts of Williamsport and Brenda Denne of Orlando, Fla.; one son, Richard Eichelberger of Orlando; four stepchildren, Mary Everett, Debra Shank and Robert Ragland, all of Hagerstown, and Gary Ragland of Marlowe, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jack M. Eichelberger Jr.; and one stepgrandson, Nelson Everett.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Arnold A. Staubs
Arnold A. "Arnie" Staubs, 71, of 34 Moller Parkway, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home.
Born in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alvin L. and Mary Virginia Grove Staubs.
Prior to his retirement, he was president of Mathias-Miller Co. General Insurance Agents and Brokers.
He was president of Washington County Independent Insurance Agents Association; member of State Independent Insurance Agents board of directors; and president of various insurance company agent advisory boards. In 1975, his was the representing agency for Maryland at the National Executives Meeting of Aetna Casualty Co.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a member of the senior choir for more than 40 years.
He was a member of Fountain Head Country Club, Elks Cub 378 and American Legion Post 42.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Starky Staubs; two sons, Kevin Starkey Staubs of Palm Beach, Queensland, Australia, and Matthew Arnold Staubs of Hagerstown; one sister, Estelle Brantner of Hagerstown; and three grandsons.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Jessie I. Welch
Jessie I. Welch, 82, of 1421 Kensington Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born May 5, 1915, in Emporia, Va., she was the daughter of Harry and Annie Bryant Cobb.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Bowen of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Kristin Bowen of Hagerstown; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Cobb; and two sisters, Virginia Bullifant and Doris Dewell.
Services will be announced at a later date.

Brent A. Bowers Sr.
Brent Allen Bowers Sr., 76, of 1038 Westport Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 6, 1921, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jacob Henry and Betty Jane Basore Bowers.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Catherine Regina Bowers, on Jan. 23, 1998.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft for 33 years, retiring in 1985. Previously, he had been employed by Hagerstown Rubber Co.; and Brandt Cabinet Works.
He was a member of Hagerstown Salvation Army; Men's Fellowship Club; and Second Wind Club. He was a Hospice of Washington County recipient.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet K. Brown of Raleigh, N.C., and Kathy S. Bowers-Baylor of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, Brent A. Bowers Jr. and Terry L. Bowers, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Mildred Albright of Hagerstown; two brothers, John Bowers of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Hunter Bowers of Hagerstown; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Bowers.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. Maj. Robert S. Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Larry D. Haarer
Larry D. Haarer, 62, of 80 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home.
Born April 18, 1935, in Indiana, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Grace M. Beam Haarer.
He was a member of a chess club in Hagerstown.
He is survived by two sisters, Erma Eash of Burr Oak, Mich., and Miriam Wellington of Goshen, Ind.; four brothers, John W. Haarer of Hagerstown, Harmon A. Haarer of Lagrange, Ind., Norman E. Haarer of Albion, Ind., and Garland V. Haarer of Howe, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be held in Middlebury, Ind., at the convenience of the family.
Helen M. Ovelman
Helen M. Ovelman, 87, of 29 Belview Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born June 26, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. and Mary Koberstine Clopper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Ovelman, in 1977.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was a member of NARF, AARP, Democratic Club of Washington County, Golden Ballroom Dancers and American Legion Auxiliary Post 42.
She is survived by two nieces, Priscilla C. Greiner and Helen Tracy, both of Hagerstown; and one nephew, Herbert L. Greiner of Amarillo, Texas.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Adelia May Greiner.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m.
Alma W. Swartzbaugh
Alma W. Swartzbaugh, 84, of 13320 Hunter Hill Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Clearview Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 15, 1913, in Black Mountain, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Deward Edgar and Blanche Pickens Walker.
She was employed at Washington County National Bank, Williamsport; and had retired from the Washington County Board of Education.
She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church.
She was a former member of Beaver Creek Homemakers Club; Hagerstown Lioness Club; and Hagerstown Zonta Club.
She is survived by her husband, Harry E. Swartzbaugh; one daughter, Susan Rowe of Hagerstown; one sister, Lois Francis of Leesburg, Va.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Larry Rickard will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Amy I. Knode
WILLIAMSPORT - Amy Irene Knode, 88, formerly of 440 S. Artizan St., who died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, was the daughter of the late Carlton C. and Anna Elizabeth Metcalfe Mentzer.
Hazel A. Knight
Hazel Annabelle Knight, 84, formerly of 228 W. Howard St., Hagerstown, and Charlotte's Home, Maugansville, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 9, 1913, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lyman and Alice Bingaman Tosten.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ellsworth H. Henson, in 1971; and by her second husband, Roy N. Knight, in 1986.
She was employed by Hagerstown Shoe Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizen group.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by three daughters, Delores M. Snyder of St. James, Juanita J. Souders of Hagerstown, and Deborah C. Prue of Olney, Md.; one stepdaughter, Nancy Neikirk of Ohio; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Orville Tosten.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
