Erma G. Fermes

CLEAR SPRING, Md. - Erma Grace "Sissy" Fermes, 70, of 13330 Big Pool Road, formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Reeder's Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born Dec. 27, 1927, in Zullinger, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Clara Rowe Stover.

She was employed by Lena Darner Boutique and the Venice Inn.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her husband, James V. Fermes; four daughters, Elizabeth A. Butts, Shena M. Zellers, Paula Cline and Wilma E. Stull, all of Hagerstown; one son, Ronald E. Stover of Big Pool, Md.; three sisters, Leona M. Smith of Funkstown, Francis L. Henry of Hagerstown and Edith J. Cross of Waynesboro, Pa.; one stepbrother, Franklin E. Stull of Huntington, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Lorretta Stover and Yvonne Stover; one brother, James R. Stover; one granddaughter, Melissa Butts; and one grandson, Dustin Billman.

Services will be Monday, at 11 a.m., at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Larry D. Haarer

Larry Demoyne Haarer, 62, of 80 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home.

Born April 18, 1935, in LaGrange County, Ind., he was the son of the late Joseph Frank and Grace Mabel Beam Haarer.

He was a 1955 graduate of Shipshewana High School and attended Tri-State University in Angola Ind.

He is survived by two sisters, Miriam Wellington of Goshen, Ind., and Erma Eash of Burr Oak, Mich.; and four brothers, Harmon Haarer and Garlan Haarer both of LaGrange, Ind., Norman Haarer of Albion, Ind., and John W. Haarer of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by one brother Noble Haarer.

Services will be on Monday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 201 S. Main St., Middlebury, Ind. The Rev. Jerold Sims, Locust Grove Mennonite Church, Burr Oak, will officiate. Burial will be at Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Mary B. Howell

Mary B. Howell, 89, of 428 Belvedere Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at the Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.

Born Aug. 4, 1908, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Jennie Barnhart Howell.

She was a retired teacher. She taught at Pangborn Elementary and Paramount elementary schools and in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association.

There will be no services or viewing.

Arrangements by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Angelina T. Stefano

Angelina Theresa Stefano, 81, of 13628 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 7, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Nicholas and Theresa Vivano.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Stefano, who died in July 1979.

She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Joan Cannella of Tennessee, Theresa Abruzzo of Florida and Margaret Hagelberg of Hagerstown; one son, Frank Stefano Jr.; two sisters, Raye Piazza and Louisa Ceresia, both of Long Island, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, at 10 a.m., at St. Ann's Catholic Church. The Rev. Andrew Mohl will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Adeline B. Green

THURMONT, Md. - Adeline Bertha Green, 94, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at her daughter's home, 9 Radio Lane, Thurmont.

Born Jan. 1, 1904, in Garfield, Md., she was the daughter of the late Hanson C. and Mary Jane Weddle Draper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keiffer Guy Green, in 1966.

She was a member of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, Foxville, Md.

She is survived by two daughters, Martha E. Harbaugh of Thurmont and Virginia C. Miller, with whom she lived; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty J. Harbaugh.

Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Thurmont Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey & Son, 615 E. Main St. The Rev. George Tuggle will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Bethel Cemetery, Foxville.

Visitation will be today from 1 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to a church of one's choice.

Walter L. Douglas

HANCOCK - Walter Luther Douglas, 77, of North Pennsylvania Avenue, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at the home of his daughter, C. Lorraine Murray, Hancock.

Born April 30, 1920, in Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of the late Jacob and Catherine Hiett Douglas.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Florence Hinckle Douglas, in 1973.

He attended school in Ditch Run, Pa.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in Germany as a staff sergeant, with the 788th Tank Battalion receiving the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and three Battle Stars.

He retired in 1981 as service manager and mechanic from his brothers car dealership, Hancock Motor Co., Hancock.

He was a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26, American Legion, Hancock; and a member of Damascus Christian Church Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

He is survived by his second wife, Margaret Adele Resley Wheeler Douglas of Hancock, whom he married Jan. 25, 1981; two daughters, C. Lorraine Murray of Hancock and Carol Lee Gloyd of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; two sons, Walter Watson Douglas of Hancock and Garth Wayne Douglas of Needmore, Pa.; two stepsons, Richard Lawrence Wheeler of Wilmington, Del. and Maurice Resley Wheeler of Hancock; one sister, Marietta Zies of Hancock; one brother, Ellis Edward "Pappy" Douglas of Needmore; nine grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one half brother, Harold W. Douglas; and one granddaughter, Santana Renee Douglas.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, Pa. Pastor Robert D. Smith Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Damascus Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by Tri-State Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock; and at the church one hour prior to the services on Tuesday. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Monday from noon to 9 p.m.

Lynda L. Allen

TAMARAC, Fla. - Lynda L. Allen, 61, of Tamarac, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998.

She had worked for Florida Medical Center South in the radiology department for five years.

She is survived by two daughters, Terri Worrell and Lisa Davies, both of Sunrise, Fla.; one son, Mark Allen of Morrisville, Pa.; two sisters, Sandra Powell and Barbara Hill, both of Hagerstown; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be today at 7:30 p.m. at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, 7001 N.W. Four St., Plantation, Fla.

Memorial donations may be made to Waldenstrom's Disease Support Group, c/o Arnold Smokler, 8499 S. Tamiami Terrace, No. 272, Sarasota, Fla. 34238.

Thomas J. Delauter

RIVER PINES, Calif. - Thomas Jefferson Delauter, 72, of River Pines, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Sacramento, Calif.

Born Oct. 24, 1925, in Wolfsville, Md., he was the son of the late Elmer Joshua and Mary Alcinda Kline Delauter.

He was a retired carpenter.

He was a veteran of World War II and Korea.

He was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, Md.

He was a life member of VFW Post 11133; a member of Carpenters Union 642 and the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Angie Cordava Delauter; one daughter, Jeanne Rayford of El Sobrante, Calif.; two sons, Thomas Delauter and Ronald Delauter, both of El Sobrante; four sisters, Pauline Johnson and Dorothy Lewis, both of Wolfsville, Phyllis Bidle of Middletown, Md., and Beverly Delauter of Frederick, Md.; seven brothers, Paul Delauter of San Antonio, Texas, Joseph Delauter and Eugene Delauter, both of Myersville, Francis Delauter of Middletown, Donald Delauter of Whispering Pines, N.C., George Delauter of Jefferson, Md., and Clark Delauter of Wolfsville; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at the Methodist Church, El Sobrante, and Sunday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville.

Jeffrey L. Golden

Jeffrey Lynn Golden, 40, of Gossard Mill Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at his home.

Born Aug. 29, 1957, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Lee Edward Golden of Greencastle, Pa., and Marlene M. Johnson of Hagerstown.

He was employed by D&G Liquors Inc. and was self-employed.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Ellen Diane Rankin Golden; one stepson, Vaughn Ray Rankin of Marlowe, W.Va.; one legal guardian son, Mark Anthony Taylor, at home; one sister, Sharon Daniel of California; one half-sister, Kerry Golden of Greencastle; three half-brothers, William Riker of Smithsburg, Daniel Riker of Hagerstown and Lee Golden Jr. of Greencastle; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Alvin R. Shaffer will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maugansville Ruritan Club, P.O. Box 44, Maugansville, Md. 21767.
