H. Marie D. Rinehart

SMITHSBURG - H. Marie Dennis Rinehart, 83, of 14233 Rinehart Road, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at her home.

Born Aug. 25, 1914, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Hazel Karn Dennis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Rinehart, in 1980.

She was a 1932 graduate of Clear Spring High School. She was a 1935 graduate of Emergency Hospital in Washington, D.C., as a registered nurse.

She was employed by a hospital in Washington, D.C., and then at Washington County Hospital for a total of 10 years. She then worked with her husband on the family farm.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Clear Spring. She attended Ringgold Church of Christ and was a member of Good Neighbors Sunday School Class.

She was a member of Red Cross Nursing Service and the Navy Nurses Reserve Corps, both of Washington, D.C.

She was a member of Green Acres Homemakers Club, Smithsburg, and National AARP.

She was a volunteer at Blue Mountain Estates, Smithsburg.

She is survived by one son, Ronald A. Rinehart of Stevens, Pa.; three daughters, Rita M. Yeagy of Smithsburg, Rebecca D. Rinehart of Washington, D.C., and Ruth N. Tave of Glencoe, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Milton "Luke" Dennis.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Donald E. Conley will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of either St. Paul's Lutheran Church, c/o Matthew Chaney, 13746 National Pike, Clear Spring, Md. 21722; or Ringgold Church of Christ, 14420 Barkdoll Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Ruth B. Ecker

BOONSBORO - Ruth B. Ecker, 81, a resident of Fahrney Keedy Nursing Home, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at the home.

Born Aug. 16, 1916, in Carroll County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Dasie Bloom Barnes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester M. Ecker, in 1976.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.

She was a member of Fahrney Keedy Auxiliary.

She is survived by one sister, Helen M. Grimm of Westminster, Md.; and five nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, LaRue Stoner and Elva Haifley; two brothers, Curtis C. Barnes and Austin C. Barnes; and a devoted friend, John Hagenbush.

At her request, her body was donated to Maryland Anatomy Board. Her ashes will be buried at Pipe Creek Cemetery in Linwood, Md., at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Fahrney Keedy Nursing Home, Boonsboro, Md. 21713.

Arrangements are by Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, Westminster.

Joseph S. Plume

TIMONIUM, Md. - Joseph S. Plume, 74, of Timonium, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Baltimore.

Born in Security, Md., he was the son of the late Joseph Plume Sr. and Wanda Williams Plume Frank.

A veteran of World War II, he was a military policeman with the 97th Infantry Division.

He was employed as a Hagerstown city police officer. He retired from the state of Maryland in 1983 after six years with the Maryland State Police and 29 years as a field agent with the Motor Vehicle Administration.

He was a scout leader with Knights of Columbus Troop 362 in Bel Air, Md., for six years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Donegan Plume; one daughter, Brenda Witt of Westminster, Md.; three sons, Joseph M. Plume of Street, Md., Christopher B. Plume of Kingsville, Md., and Timothy D. Plume of Colora, Md.; one brother, Gilbert Plume of Hagerstown; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Monday, Jan. 26, at the Stella Maris Chapel in Timonium.

Arrangements were by Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Towson, Md.

Eleanor E. Leather

CHEWSVILLE - Eleanor Elizabeth Leather, 75, of 21202 Jefferson Blvd., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 31, 1922, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Susan Elizabeth Lesher Miller.

She was a 1940 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

She was a former employee of Fairchild Aircraft. She also was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service.

She was a member of United Church of Christ in Cavetown, where she taught Sunday school in the primary department. She was a former member of the Friendship Class.

She is survived by her husband, Harold L. Leather; one son, Sidney L. Leather of Hagerstown; two sisters, Florence Bailey of Hagerstown and Vera Butts of Williamsport; two brothers, Charles E. Miller of Williamsport and Morris Miller of Hanover, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Ellen Leather; and one sister, T. Amelia Miller.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ronald E. Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery, Smithsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Smithsburg Emergency Medical Service, P.O. Box 411, Smithsburg, Md. 21783.

Linda L. Shank

Linda Lou Shank, 56, of 18419 Showalter Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 23, 1941, in Rouzerville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Bernard Washington and Lena Marie Wiles Sanders.

She was a 1959 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her former husband, Nevin W. Shank of Hagerstown; two daughters, Sherry Shank of Hagerstown and Wendy Shank of Maugansville; two sons, Lynn Barefoot of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Gregory Shank of Hagerstown; four sisters, Vera Hartman and Nancy Lee Snyder, both of Hagerstown, Rose Marie Wiles of Ohio, and Shirley Jean Robinson of North Carolina; three brothers, Paul "Billy" Sanders of Hagerstown, Boyd Harvey Sanders of Tennessee, and Robert Bernard Sanders; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Gene Sanders.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don C. Evason will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Marvin W. Shupp

CLEAR SPRING - Marvin Warren Shupp, 41, of Clear Spring, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 25, 1956, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Waunita M. Mason Shupp of Clear Spring and the late John S. Shupp.

He was a 1974 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

He was the former general manger of Shady Bower Market, near Clear Spring. He had been employed as a correctional dietary supervisor at Roxbury Correctional Institution.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Clear Spring. He attended Mount Calvary Church of God in Clear Spring.

He was a life member of Clear Spring Ambulance Club, was chief for nine years, vice president for four years and chairman of the board of directors for three years. He was a life member of Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co. He served on the EMS Committee of Washington County. He served on the Medical Advisory Board for two years and on the Washington County Fire and Rescue Communications Advisory Board.

He was a member of Western Maryland Sportsman Club, National Rifle Association, Mercersburg Moose Lodge 17990 and Men's Major Bowling League.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sharon K. Thompson Shupp; one daughter, Jill Nichole Shupp, at home; one son, Andrew Thompson Shupp, at home; one sister, Carol J. DeLouney of Princess Anne, Md.; twin brother, Michael W. Shupp of Clear Spring and brother, Jeffrey L. Shupp of Chambersburg, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Timothy W. Shupp.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons and Darryl Lum will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the trust fund for Jill and Andrew Shupp, c/o Clear Spring Ambulance Club, P.O. Box 61, Clear Spring, Md. 21722.

Glen M. Craig

Glen M. Craig, 72, of 12031 Smithfield Farm Lane, Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at his home.

Born Feb. 2, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Mack R. and Effie C. Hoover Craig.

He was a retired employee of Fountain Head Country Club.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of American Legion Post 222, Clear Spring, and AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Julia L. Craig; two daughters, Peggy L. Shepherd of Hagerstown and Beverly J. Pine of Clear Spring; one stepson, Ernie Keck of Hagerstown; two stepdaughters, Mary Munson and Brenda Campbell, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert L. Craig of Hagerstown; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and Gary Lee Keck and Donna K. Palmer, both of Hagerstown, whom he raised.

Private services will be at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with military honors by Morris-Frock Post 42 American Legion. The Rev. C. Richard Masters will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.
