Aubrey N. Herring

Aubrey Newell Herring, 57, of 335 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 20, 1941, in Thornton, Texas, he was the son of Lela Joene Bassett Herring of Hagerstown and the late Aubrey Lavoy Herring.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by three daughters, Amy Herring of Hamilton, Ala., and Amy Rose and Donna Ferruzza, both of Hagerstown; three sons, Matthew Herring and Alan Herring, both of Hamilton, and Brian Herring of Texas; one sister, Carla Tabler of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and a close friend, Judy Kemp.

He was preceded in death by one son, Wesley Dale Herring.

Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Claude L. Crawford

Claude L. Crawford, 84, of 12925 Cathedral Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Jan. 26, 1914, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Roy Crawford and Cora Byers Crawford Brandt.

He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 378; Fountain Head Country Club; Hagerstown Lions Club; Masonic Lodge 217 AF&AM; Hagerstown and Washington County Sportsman Club; and past president of Hagerstown Traffic Club.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Crawford; two daughters, Karen M. Crawford Kelly of Hagerstown and Kaye Ellen Crawford of Baltimore; one son, Lee Crawford of Fayetteville, Pa.; one sister, Doris Hull of Hagerstown; one grandson; three stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Crawford; and one brother, Earl Crawford.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, 3551 N. Broadstreet, Philadelphia, Pa. 19140.

Arrangements are by Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

Diane L. Benner

WILLIAMSPORT - Diane Louise Benner, 56, of 103 S. Vermont St., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 11, 1942, in New Kensington, Md., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy Dagan Kerr.

She was employed with Jewells and Jewells Used Appliances and Furniture, Williamsport.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She worked with Brown Bag Program of the Williamsport Food Bank.

She is survived by her husband, William Benner; three daughters, Barbara Louise Miller of Chambersburg, Pa., Dorene Waldren of Grapeville, Pa., and Kayla Tack, at home; four sons, Kevin Lewis Tack and Keith George Tack, both of Butler, Pa., Kirk Armand Tack of Grapeville and J.R. Tack at home; one sister, Dorene Mickelow of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Robert Porter of Altoona, Pa.; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Kayla Tack and J.R. Tack Trust Fund, c/o William J. Benner, 103 S. Vermont St., Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Louis E. Binkley Sr.

Louis E. Binkley Sr., 75, of 1914 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, who died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, is survived by two sisters, Mary Alice Anderson of Hagerstown and Florence Martin of Baltimore.

Russell E. Weaver

Russell Edward Weaver, 73, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, who died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, is survived by one foster sister, Betty Lou Wilson of Falling Waters, W.Va., and cousins.

Nellie H. Daugherty

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Nellie Hargett Daugherty, 100, formerly of Frederick, Md., Washington, D.C., Silver Spring, Md., and Asbury Methodist Home, Gaithersburg, Md., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Wilson Health Care Center, Gaithersburg.

She was born April 24, 1897, in Frederick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. "Doe" Daugherty, in 1958.

She was an elementary school teacher in Frederick.

She was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Lillian Leslie of Lakeland, Fla., Susan Ford of Charlotte, N.C., and Louis W. Sornson Jr. of San Diego; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty D. Sornson.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Md.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Mary A. Williams

SUNRISE, Fla. - Mary Agnes Williams, 80, of Sunrise, and formerly of Charles Town, W.Va., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va.

Born Aug. 22, 1917, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late William T. and Katherine Agnes Schroen Burroughs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Williams, in 1980.

She retired after 33 years with Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. in Maryland.

She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Maryland.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Hicks of Portsmouth, and Donna M. Rivette of Moab, Utah; four sons, Donald L. Williams of Morgantown, W.Va., Robert E. Williams of Falls Church, Va., Gary W. Williams of Luray, Va., and Richard A. Williams of Sunrise; five sisters, Teany Veihmyer of Bladensburg, Md., Frances Fuss of Alexandria, Va., Regina Adomanis of Bowie, Md., Dorothy Bernard of Holidaysburg, Pa., and Patricia Cecil of Haines City, Fla.; two brothers, William Burroughs of Orlando, Fla., and Robert Burroughs of Conway, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Charles L. Williams Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, South George Street, Charles Town. The Rev. T. Matthew Rowgh will be celebrant. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town.

Charles L. Korrell

FREDERICK, Md. - Charles L. Korrell, 74, of 5720 Shookstown Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born March 29, 1923, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Gideon and Effie Anna Mary Shank Korrell.

He retired from Fort Detrick, where he had worked as a ground maintenance supervisor.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was a member of Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11; John R. Webb, VFW Post 3285, Frederick; a life member of Valley Memorial AMVETS Post 9, Middletown; Yellow Springs Lions Club; and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks 684, Frederick.

He was a member of Columbia Lodge 58 AF&A Masons; Philanthropic Lodge 168 AF&AM; Frederick Forest 132; Tall Cedar Life Foundation of North America; Supreme Forest Tall Cedar Foundation Trustee District 21, Ali Ghan Shrine AAOMS, Cumberland, Md.; Hagerstown Shrine Club; and past Grand Tall Cedar, Frederick Forest 132; Keystone Kopps; Shepherds Unit Ali Ghan Temple; Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, SJ, USA; and honorary member of Algonquin Forest 140, Cumberland.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Honeycutt Korrell; five children, Terry E. Korrell, Deborah Culler and Charles W. Korrell, all of Frederick, Lisa Wolfe of Wolfsville, Md., and Sonya Hewitt of Thurmont, Md.; one brother, Ronald Korrell of Frederick; two sisters, Mary E. Blank and Annabelle Masser, both of Frederick; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ricky L. Korrell, in 1974.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 217 Dill Ave., Frederick. Larry L. Eubanks, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Burnis D. Barrett, former pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Rocky Springs Cemetery, Frederick.

Friends may call today from 3 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. The masons will conduct a memorial service today at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital, Ali Ghan Temple, AAONMS, P.O. Box 1416, Cumberland, Md. 21501-1416.

Lena W. Waldow

THURMONT, Md. - Lena Winifred Speakes Waldow, 81, of 12 Hammaker St., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at her home.

Born Nov. 14, 1916, in Clifton Station, Va., she was the daughter of the late Moses and Irene Moch Speakes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Waldow, in 1985.

She worked as a nurse's aide in several hospitals including Frederick Memorial Hospital. Earlier, she was employed at Leland Memorial Hospital, Hyattsville, Md.

She is survived by nine children, Eric Waldow of Upper Marlboro, Md., William Foster of Hagerstown, Shirley A. Myers of Fayetteville, Pa., Clyde Foster of Deerfield, Fla., Alice J. Amaya of Whittier, Calif., Thelma McGuire of Cavetown, Margaret L. Slusser of Monrovia, Md., Winnifred Payne of Thurmont and Carl R. Waldow of Emmitsburg, Md.; one sister, Lora Cooper of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, Alfred Speakes of Chesapeake Beach, Md., and Ralph Speakes of Greenbelt, Md.; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Foster; two grandchildren, Gary McGuire Jr. and Pam Stevenson; a great-grandson, Shawn Sanchez; one sister, Helen Lee; and one brother, Leonard Speakes.

Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Thurmont, 7 Sunny Way, Thurmont. The Rev. James L. Rousey will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to First Baptist Church of Thurmont, 7 Sunny Way, Thurmont, Md. 21788; or to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Thurmont Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey and Son, Thurmont.

Donald E. Stimmel

Donald Edwin Stimmel, 72, of 133 Devonshire Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at his home.

Born July 12, 1925, in Thurmont, Md., he was the son of the late Morris B. and Carrie B. Moser Stimmel.

He retired from Western Maryland Railroad in 1986 after 44 years.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.

He was a member of Williamsport American Legion Potomac Post 202. He was a past master and member of Friendship Lodge 84 AF&AM; and a member of Washington County Hospital Auxiliary.

He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Stimmel of Hagerstown; one daughter, Darlene K. Dietrich of Hagerstown; one son, Richard L. Stimmel of Westminster, Md.; one brother, Wilbur F. Stimmel of Thurmont; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.
