April 7, 2000

Patsy Olivia Sump of Cordova died on Friday, April 7, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was 60.

Born in Easton on March 6, 1940, she was the daughter of Della Mae Erskine Vorwald of Easton and the late William J. Vorwald.

On October 27, 1956, she married Richard Herman Sump, Jr. and they made their home in Cordova.

She was a Talbot County Election Supervisor for over 25 years.

As a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cordova, she was a member and chairperson of the Dinner Committee.

She was also a member of the Saddle Friends Trail Club in Easton.

In addition to her husband, mother, and maternal grandmother, Sally Erskine of Easton, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Terri L. and Michael Hiner of Easton; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark R. and Vicki Sump of Cordova; a son, Darian L. Sump of Cordova; two brothers, William Vorwald, Jr. and Randy Vorwald, both of Easton; three sisters, Sylvia Roe of Easton, Vivian Brandon of Wittman, and Heidi Barnhart of Cordova; and four grandchildren, Michael Anne Hiner, Sherri Sump, Justin Hiner, and Courtney Sump.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cordova on Monday, April 10, 2000 at 11:00 AM.

Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Sunday from 6-9:00 PM.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 368, Cordova, MD 21625.

April 6, 2000

James Edward Thompson of Sudlersville, Md. died on April 6, 2000 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital. He was 73.

He was born in Queen Anne’s County, Md. on October 27, 1926, the son of the late Wilson and Edith Libey Thompson.

Mr. Thompson worked on a farm as a young man, for the first part of his working career.

He married Betty Louise Green in 1974.

Mr. Thompson worked as a truck driver for P.M. Brooks for 17 years; he then operated Heavy Equipment for Indian Acres until he retired after an injury in 1975.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Thompson enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Edith Smith of Centreville, Md. and Shirley Bussells of Lancaster, Va.; a son James Thompson III of Sudlersville, Md.; a brother: Willard Thompson of Chestertown, Md., 6 grandchildren: William Thompson, Melissa Hines, John Hollingsworth, Michael Jackson, Ralph Carpenter Jr., and Robert Carpenter. Along with 6 great grandchildren. 2 sons the late Robert Lee Thompson and Edward D. Thompson Sr. and a grandson the late Edward D. Thompson Jr. predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held on Monday April 10, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md. where relatives and friends may call on Sunday evening between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 P.M. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery Church Hill, Md. Memorial contributions may be made to Church Hill Vol. Fire Department 316 Main Street Church Hill, Md. 21623.

April 5, 2000

Helen Margaret Greene of Easton, formerly of Camden, NJ, died at the William Hill Manor in Easton on Wednesday, April 5, 2000. She was 100.

Born in Williamsport, PA on July 6, 1899, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Christina Saul Roegner.

She had worked for over 20 years as a collator at the Todd Company Bookbinders, which later became Burroughs Co., before retiring in 1964.

Prior to moving to Easton in 1982, she had lived in Camden, NJ where she was a member of the Christus Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizens Group.

Mrs. Greene is survived by two sons, Robert W. Greene of Lincoln, DE and Ernest G. Greene of McLean, VA; a sister, Kathryn Nardin of New York City; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at the Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken, NJ on Monday, April 10, 2000 at 1 P.M.

Paul A. Palmquist of Arnold, Md. died at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md. on Wednesday April 5, 2000. He was 88.

Born on April 14,1912 in East Pittsburgh, P.A., he was the son of the late Emil Palmquist and Mary Margaret Wagner.

He graduated from East Pittsburgh High School.

Shortly after graduation he married Pearl L. Palmquist were they lived in Monroeville, P.A.

Mr. Palmquist worked his whole career for Westinghouse Electric, as a supervisor , then retiring on May 1,1974.

Mr. Palmquist in his free time loved to paint and was well known for his artistic work.

He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mr. Palmquist was a member of the Westinghouse Foramens Association and the Prime Timers of Monroeville, P.A.

Mr. Palmquist is survived by his wife, Pearl L. Palmquist of Arnold, Md.; one daughter Gloria Pfisterer of Arnold, Md.; one sister , Margaret Hayes of Texas.; 3 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren.

All services are private.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Kidney Foundation at 402 Marvel Court, Easton, Md. 21601.

April 4, 2000

I. Simns Jacquette Sr. of Rock Hall, Md. died on Tuesday April 4, 2000 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital. He was 91.

Mr. Jacquette was born in Quaker Neck near Chestertown, Md. on April 24, 1908, the son of the late John A. and Anna Simns Jacquette.

He began working on the family farm in Quaker neck at a young age.

He moved to Rock Hall as a teenager.

In 1927 he married Elsie Mae Downey of Rock Hall, Md.

He owned and operated the families farm in Rock Hall, Md. and delivered the milk produced on the farm.

In 1984 Mrs. Elsie predeceased her husband.

Mr. Jacquette continued to operate the family farm with his son and did so well through his retirement.

In 1986 he remarried Leona Edwards.

Mr. Jacquette was a member of Chester Lodge #115, Kent and Queen Anne’s Gideon’s Camp, Rock Hall Senior Citizens, Rock Hall Promise Keepers, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and the Kent County Farm Bureau.

He enjoyed gardening, traveling, watching the orioles, and spending time on the water crabbing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 sons: Alfred Downey Jacquette, Charles Preston Jacquette both of Rock Hall, Md., Isaac Simns Jacquette Jr. of Smithfield, Va., and Anna Mae Wood of Grasonsville, Md.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

A son the late Thomas Byrd Jacquette predeceased him in 1993.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 8, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Rock Hall, Md.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday April 7, 2000 between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 pm at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where a Masonic service will be held at 8:00 pm.

Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Gideon’s Memorial Bible Plan P.O. Box 651 Chestertown, Md. 21620 or to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church P.O. Box 66 Rock Hall, Md. 21661.

Anna C. Michaluk of Chestertown, Md. died on Tuesday, April 4, 2000.

A graveside service will be held at Chester Cemetery on Friday April 7, 2000.

April 2, 2000

Louise F. Reid of Stevensville, MD. Died Sunday April 2, 2000 at Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville, MD. She was 85.

Born on June 13, 1914 in Trenton, N.J. She was the daughter of the late Charles William and Louise Geiser Heuck.

She was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Trenton, N.J.

In 1935 she married Parker Madden Reid.

Mrs. Reid was a homemaker in New Jersey until 1952 when they moved to Kensington, MD. And later to Silver Springs, MD.

Mr. Reid predeceased her in 1990.

In 1995 Ms. Reid moved to the Eastern Shore to resided with her family in Stevensville, MD.

She was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Wheaton, MD., St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Silver Springs, MD., a member of the University of Christian Church in Hyattsville, MD. and a member of the Aeolian Choir exclusively performing in nursing homes from 1968 ~ 1988.

She is survived by two daughters Lou Ann Martin of Grasonville, MD and Susie Reid of Stevensville, MD.

Two Grandchildren Will Martin and Scott Martin; and two Great grandchildren Madeline Martin and Parker Martin.

Services will be held graveside at Gate of Haven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD. on Wednesday April 5, 2000. at 1PM.

The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia Society of America 8600 La Salle Road Oxford Bldg Suite 602 Baltimore, MD. 21286.

Katherine Annetta Lomax of McDaniel, formerly of Tilghman, died on Sunday, April 2, 2000 at the Talbot Hospice House in Easton. She was 78.

Born in Tilghman on April 30, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Maude Scharch Cummings.

She worked at the Tilghman Packing Company and the Bridge Restaurant.

Her husband, John Barwick Lomax, whom she married in 1938, died in 1997.

Following his death, she moved to McDaniel to live with her sister.

Mrs. Lomax was a member of the Tilghman United Methodist Church, Tilghman, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 70, Easton.

Mrs. Lomax is survived by two sisters, Connie Haddaway of McDaniel, and Peggy Granger of St. Michaels; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Two sons, John G. Lomax and Charles "Bucky" Lomax, two brothers, John T. Cummings and Donald E. Cummings, and a sister, Anna Mae Cummings, are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at the Tilghman United Methodist Church in Tilghman on Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at 2:00 PM.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Tilghman Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601 or the St. Michaels Volunteer Fire Department, St. Michaels, MD 21663.

May 31, 2000

Colin Michael Macindoe, of Easton, died at The University Hospital, Baltimore, on Wednesday, May 31, 2000 of injuries received in a truck-bicycle accident on Route 50, Easton. He was 37.

Born in Easton, March 31, 1963, he was the son of Robert J. Macindoe of Trappe and Roxanna Walls Macindoe of Easton with whom he made his home.

He attended Talbot Co. Public Schools and later earned his General Education Diploma.

A lifelong resident of Talbot County, he had worked in the restaurant business. He enjoyed art and loved animals.

Mr. Macindoe is survived by his parents. A brother, Robert J. Macindoe, Jr., died in March of 1992.

Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton, on Saturday, June 3rd, at 11 A. M.

Memorial donations may be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, Md. 21601

May 30,2000

Charles E.Leager of Church Hill died at University of Maryland Hospital on Tuesday, May 30,2000. He was 79.

Born on Feb. 24, 1921, he was the son of the late Robert Emmitt and Anna Dulin Leager.

He married Louise Wright June 28, 1941.

Mr. Leager farmed in Queen Anne’s County all his life.

He was a member of Interstate Milk Producers Cooperative for 25 years; a member of Price Community Club; the Farm Bureau, and was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.

Mr. Leager also served as a trustee of the church for many years.

He is survived by his wife Louise; a daughter Margaret Ann Gretzinger of Chestertown; a son James Leager of Queenstown; and a son Dale Leager of Centreville. Also five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. one sister Dorothy Mccollister of Baltimore, Md.

He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Margaret Jjewell; Miriam Coppage and one brother, Wilson Leager.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2000 at Bethany United Methodist Church, Price, MD. at 11 a.m. Family and friends may call at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Sudlersville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the Price Bethany Church Memorial Fund, c/o Mrs. Sonia Taylor, 160 Cherry Blossom Farm Lane, Church Hill, MD. 21623
