Robert N. Stottlemyer

WILLIAMSPORT - Robert Nelson Stottlemyer, 70, of 16725 Buford Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 31, 1927, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Ira Scott and Martha Amanda Norris Stottlemyer.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School; Hagerstown Junior College; Shepherd College, where he graduated cum laude; and the University of Maryland, where he received his master's in social work.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a technical sergeant in Germany.

He was employed as assistant director of Washington County Department of Social Services; and previously worked with Dominici Tire Co.; TB Woods & Sons; and Victor Products.

He was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity.

He was past president of Hagerstown Suburban Kiwanis Club; a member of American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42; chairman of the Board of Homewood Retirement Center for 13 years; chairman of the advisory board for home care management at Career Studies Center; a member of advisory boards at Hagerstown Junior College and for the State of Maryland; and president of Casa Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Zeigler Stottlemyer; three brothers, Kenneth Lee Stottlemyer and Joseph Elwood Stottlemyer, both of Hagerstown and Roland Scott Stottlemyer of Washington, D.C.; one niece; and four nephews.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jan Dorsey will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Irvin M. Crawford Sr.

WILLIAMSPORT - Irvin Monroe "Shorty" Crawford Sr., 74, of 8054 Avis Mill Road, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 16, 1923, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Blanche Edna Miller Crawford.

He was employed as a custodian by John Wesley United Methodist Church for 24 years, retiring in 1991. He was previously employed by Martin Marietta Cement Co., Hagerstown.

He attended John Wesley United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Kershner Crawford; three daughters, Carolyn L. Plotner of Hagerstown, Aletta J. Scott and Bonnie L. Cunningham, both of Williamsport; seven sons, Irvin M. Crawford Jr. of Williamsport, Irvin L. Crawford and Ralph E. Crawford, both of Hagerstown; Larry L. Crawford of Fairplay, David L. Crawford of Clear Spring, Donald W. Crawford of Downsville and Earl E. Crawford, at home; two sisters, June E. Thomas of Halfway and Betty M. Kendle of Hagerstown; one brother, Glen R. Crawford of Halfway; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria J. Crawford; one son, Timothy P. Crawford; two grandchildren, one great-grandson; one sister, Frances Grimes; and two brothers, John Crawford and Fred Crawford.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Marcus Earp, the Rev. Brian Moore and the Rev. Arnold Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Edith S. Thomas

Edith Svea Thomas, 85, of 11524 Green Valley Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 23, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Renaldo S. and Edith Kiderling Coon.

Her husband, Russell H. Thomas, died in 1984.

She was employed by Washington County Board of Education at E. Russell Hicks Middle School as a lunch room aide. She was previously employed with Washington County Hospital, Lockheed Aircraft Co. in New Jersey as a switchboard operator, and Currier New, also in New Jersey.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline S. Rand of Hagerstown, and Florence M. Zhelesnik of New Jersey; one brother, Russell H. Thomas Jr. of New Jersey; four granddaughters; and three grandsons.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Alice M. Capezuto

Alice Marie Capezuto, 50, of 50 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at her home.

Born Oct. 17, 1947, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Adelaide A. Kopp Capezuto and the late William Capezuto.

She is survived by three sisters, Ann Croghan of Carlisle, Pa., Pat Walter of Hagerstown, and Christina Contreras of Burke, Va.; two brothers, William Capezuto of Edgewater, Fla., and Louis Capezuto of Clear Spring; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Catherine L. Levi

BERRYVILLE, Va. - Catherine Lorena "Rene" Levi, 84, of 304 Walnut St., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at her home.

Born July 14, 1913, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Alice Potter Keplinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Snowden Levi, in 1969.

She was a housewife.

She was a member of Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by one son, Richard I. Humelsine of Berryville; and one grandchild.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery in Berryville. The Rev. William E. Ingram will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, Va. 22601.

Arrangements are by Enders and Shirley Funeral Home in Berryville.

William L. Trent

William Lewis Trent, 50, of Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 19, 1948, in Myersdale, Pa., he was the son of the late Dewey and Helen Forespring Trent.

He retired from the City of Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Keating Trent; two daughters, Kathleen Trent and Kacey Trent, both at home; one brother, Dewey Trent of Myersdale; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at noon at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Frostburg, Md., with the Rev. William Moody as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Frostburg.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 322-324 E. Antietam St., Suite 307-B, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Theodore Hayes

SMITHSBURG - Theodore "Ted" Hayes, 76, of Mapleville Road, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Born in Four Oaks, N.C., he was the son of the late Gethro and Repsie Coats Hayes.

He was employed as a farmer and with Doubleday Co. in Smithsburg.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army; and served in CSU at Fort Ritchie.

He was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Smithsburg.

He also was a member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club and Sunshine Leisure Club, both in Smithsburg; Cascade American Legion and Eagles Club in Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Julia M. Jacques Hayes; one daughter, Nancy A. Roisum of Springfield, Va.; one son, Terry L. Hayes of Smithsburg; four sisters, Ethel McLamb of Raleigh, N.C., Neva Barefoot of Four Oaks, Maizie Williamson of Goldsboro, N.C., and Ruewood Williamson of Smithfield, N.C.; two brothers, Polie Hayes of Smithfield, and Thomas Hayes of Chesapeake, Va.; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 9 Maple Ave., Smithsburg. The Rev. Elaine Prince will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anne's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 177, Smithsburg, Md. 21783.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.

Lemuel L. Kindle Sr.

CASCADE - Lemuel L. Kindle Sr., 55, of McAfee Hill Road, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at his home.

Born Feb. 11, 1943, in Blue Mountain, Washington County, he was the son of Edith E. Ott Kindle of Pen Mar, and the late Charles L. Kindle.

He was employed by Blue Ridge Pipe and Nipple Co., Fort Ritchie, and Grit Mill at Charmaine.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa Kindle Group of Biglerville, Pa.; two sons, Lemuel L. Kindle Jr. of Waynesboro, Pa., and Robert Kindle of Hagerstown; one sister, Shirley J. Stottlemyer of Sabillasville, Md.; two brothers, Clyde E. Kindle of Emmitsburg, Md., and Ronald L. Kindle of Cascade; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Private services will be at Ringgold Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.

Edith S. Thomas

Edith Svea Thomas, 85, of 11524 Green Valley Drive, Hagerstown, who died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, is survived by one son, Russell H. Thomas Jr. of New Jersey.

Garland O. Huffer

JEFFERSON, Md. - Garland Oliver Huffer, 90, of 5840 Catholic Church Road, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at College View Center in Frederick, Md.

Born Oct. 2, 1907, in Broad Run, Md., he was the son of the late Oliver and Amanda Arnold Huffer.

He owned and operated a country store and feed business in Broad Run for many years, and also was employed at Model Garage in Middletown, Md.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown and the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday school.

He also was a member of Middletown Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Huffer; two daughters, Doris H. Taylor of Myersville, Md., and Linda L. Huckleberry of Middletown, Md.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Lovetta Wastler, Anna Mary Culler, Clara Huffer and Elva Zecker; and two brothers, Roy Huffer and Clarence Huffer.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown. The Rev. Donald L. Turley and the Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Middletown.

Friends may call at anytime Tuesday at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends also may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
