BOONSBORO - Evelyn Irene Smith Lescalleet, 71, formerly of 8 High St., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at the home of her son, Marvin R. Lescalleet, 4437 Locust Grove Road, Rohrersville, Md.
Born July 14, 1926, in Mount Lena, Md., she was the daughter of the late Lester W. and Ella Mae Yost Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle L. Lescalleet, in 1966.
She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Mount Lena Church of God.
She was a life member of Blue Ridge Riding Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Marlene D. Roher of Hedgesville, W.Va.; four sons, Marvin R. Lescalleet of Rohrersville, Md., Larry M. Lescalleet and Jerry L. Lescalleet, both of Boonsboro and Terry L. Lescalleet of Chambersburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreatgranddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gary W. Lescalleet; and three sisters, Helen Moser, Mildred Gladhill and Marie Green.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call Sunday after noon at the funeral home.

Mary K. Sowers
WILLIAMSPORT - Mary Katherine Sowers, of Virginia Avenue, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Rogers Center, Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Born in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Clayton E. and Irene Agnes Smith Neikirk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Hauer Sowers, in 1989.
She was employed by Montgomery County, Md., Board of Education and retired in 1966. She owned and operated Fulton Antique Shop in Fulton, Md., for more than 20 years.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport.
She was a life member of Soroptimist International Club of Montgomery County.
She is survived by one son, Robert H. Sowers of Hilton Head Island; three sisters, Ethel Poole and Bernice Bowers, both of Williamsport, and Martha Miller of Halfway; one brother, Daniel Neikirk of Williamsport; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 W. Potomac St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Naomi F. Reed
KNOXVILLE, Md. - Naomi Frances Reed, 72, of 19042 Millers Avenue, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Oct. 7, 1925, in Gleason, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo Washington and Clarissa Mae Whetzel Kohne.
She was a member of Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Otha Hoover Reed; three sons, Lester Coburn of Knoxville, Elmer Coburn of Indiana and Edward Coburn of Massachusetts; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Keplinger; and three brothers, Lester Kohne, Albert Kohne and Arvil Kohne.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. James E. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frank Harmon
Frank Harmon, 85, of 10209 Summers Lane, Hagerstown, died Thursday, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 22, 1912, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Walter and Florence Keyes Harmon.
He attended Storer College and Morgan State University.
He served with the U.S. Army.
He retired from Mack Trucks.
He was a member of Ebenezer AME Church; and attended Zion Baptist Church.
He was a member of American Legion Post 42.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Myrtle Harmon; six daughters, Marilyn Dickens, Wanda Broadus, Teresa Harmon, and Lisa King, all of Hagerstown, Diana Martin of Irving, Texas, and Francine Drew of Ellenwood, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, 61 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Leroy Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.

Carrie E. Barbato
BETHESDA, Md. - Carrie Elizabeth Brewer Barbato, 70, of 5101 River Road, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, of cancer at Sibley Hospital, Bethesda.
Born Aug. 3, 1927, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Edith Brewer.
She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was active in Potomac Playmakers, Hagerstown; and was a bridge life master.
She is survived by one son, James Lewis Abbott Jr. of Baltimore; one sister, Jane Newell of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Jake Brewer of Columbus, Ohio; and one granddaughter.
A memorial service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at 3704 Raymond Ave., Bethesda.
Interment will be held at a later date in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Edna V. Kershner
ARLINGTON, Va. - Edna Virginia Kershner, 91, of Arlington; and formerly of Falling Waters, W.Va., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Sleepy Hollow Nursing Home, Annandale, Va.
Born Jan. 18, 1907, in Big Spring, Md., she was the daughter of the late Amelia Silver Mellott and stepdaughter of the late Stephen Mellott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. Kershner, in 1964.
She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Arlington.
She had been active in Cherrydalers Club of Arlington, serving as their president from 1977 to 1979.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Edwin Mason Finch of Martinsburg, W.Va., Mrs. Victor Reynolds of Cochranville, Pa., Mrs. Ronald Ohlerich of Arlington and Mrs. Glenn Reid of Biglerville, Pa.; one son, Lawrence R. Kershner of Delmar, Del.; three sisters, Mrs. Leroy Horst of Williamsport, Mrs. Eugene Shoop of Hagerstown and Mrs. Clifford Lloyd of Lake Park, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Gossard; and two brothers, Clyde Mellott and Carl Mellott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. A vigil service will be conducted Monday at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
Catherine V. Parker
Catherine Virginia Parker, 77, of 18221 College Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 4, 1920, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Nola Moore Summer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace E. Parker.
She was employed with the state at Western Maryland Hospital Center for 20 years. She was previously employed with Washington County Hospital for five years.
She was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen Edwards of Hagerstown and Patricia Kline of Funkstown; two sons, William Parker of Hagerstown and Edward Parker of Williamsport; one sister, Mary Quirk of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Rice; and one brother, Raymond Summer.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
