James W. Baker
James William Baker, 65, of 55 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 2, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William R. and Sadie Turner Baker.
He was employed by A&B Garage.
He attended Gateway Ministries.
He is survived by one daughter, Sheila J. Domer of Hagerstown; one stepson, Virgil Leroy Burkett of Sunnyville, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The Rev. Rodney K. Rhodes will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown.
Russell F. Dennis
Russell Franklin Dennis, 81, of 21518 Ringgold St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 26, 1916, in Thurmont, Md., he was the son of the late Isaac Gilbert and Jeanette Weddle Dennis.
He was employed by Mack Truck Inc. in Hagerstown and retired in 1982.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army. He served during World War II and received a Purple Heart.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leitersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Vallie Kesecker Michael Dennis; one daughter, Delores Dennis Cole of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three stepsons, Leon Michael, Lowell Michael and Aaron Michael, all of Hagerstown; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Russell Davis Jr.; one sister, Mildred Wilhide; two brothers, Ed Dennis and John Dennis; and one grandson.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Lans Alexis will officiate. Burial will be in Spohr's Crossroad Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Leila G. Shepherd
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Leila G. Shepherd, 67, of 105 Country Circle Drive East, and formerly of Boonsboro, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Halifax Medical Center in Florida.
Born Nov. 29, 1930, in Emporia, Kan., she was the daughter of the late George William and Ethel Winifred Shull McMullen.
She retired after 25 years as a principal in the public school system of Montgomery County, Md.
She was a member of New Smyrna Beach Christian Church, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
She was a member of the auxiliary of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion in Boonsboro.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Joe G. Shepherd; two daughters, Catherine Nason of Sharpsburg and Cynthia Reichardt of Silver Spring, Md.; three sons, Craig Shepherd of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Curtis Shepherd of Germantown, Md., and Kevin Shepherd of Ellicott City, Md.; one sister, Ferne Riggs of Emporia; two brothers, Dean McMullen of Eureka, Kan., and John McMullen of Aurora, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. James J. Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
Robert J. Talbert Jr.
Robert J. Talbert Jr., 67, of 38 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 25, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Martha Smith Talbert of Hagerstown and the late Robert J. Talbert Sr.
He attended Ohio State University.
He was owner of Studio 38 in Hagerstown. He was employed by Western Maryland State Troopers Association and managed the Hamilton Hotel in Hagerstown. He also was employed by Columbus Ohio Dispatch newspaper and U.S. Trotting Association for Racing Horses.
He was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Vinca Radosevich of Billings, Mont.; three sons, Robert J. Talbert III of Hagerstown, William Gubbins of Knoxville, Tenn., and Todd Talbert of Philadelphia; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Donald E. Shank
Donald Elmer Shank, 67, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Potomac Towers, Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at his home.
Born April 23, 1930, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Benjamin K. and Grace Houser Shank.
Employed by St. James School for 50 years, he retired in 1996.
He was a member of St. James Brethren Church.
He was a member of Moose Club in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He is survived by his former wife, Mary Jane Shank of Hagerstown; one daughter, Donna Griffith of Ravenwood, W.Va.; two sons, Donald Lynn Shank and Elmer L. Shank, both of Hagerstown; three brothers, William Shank of Williamsport, George Shank of Downsville and Robert Shank of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. James School Chapel, St. James. The Rev. D. Stuart Dunnan will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Anna M. Wasson
SMITHSBURG - Anna M. Wasson, 89, of North Main Street, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 31, 1908, in Chewsville, she was the daughter of the late Martin Thomas and Mary Dick Eckstine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond M. Wasson, in 1969.
She was employed by Washington County Hospital.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lutie Blickenstaff; one brother, T.D. Eckstine; one half sister, Doris Spitzer; and an adopted brother, Winfred Eckstine.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. Darryl Zoller and the Rev. Robert S. Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Harold C. Barnhart
LUGOFF, S.C. - Harold Clarence "Barney" Barnhart, 46, of Lugoff, died Sunday, March 8, 1998.
Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Paul Winfred and Helen Koontz Barnhart.
He was a member of Christian Assembly of Lancaster, S.C.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Hayes Barnhart; one daughter, Allyson Barnhart of Williamsport; one son, Jayson Barnhart of Oklahoma; one brother, Paul W. Barnhart Jr. of Allentown, Pa.; and four stepsons, Chris Catoe of Camden, S.C., Jason Catoe, John Watson Jr. and Adam Watson, all of Lugoff.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel, S.C.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.
Richard W. Bomberger Jr.
Retired Col. Richard Watson Bomberger Jr., 70, of 18911 Waldron Place, Hagerstown, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.
Born June 11, 1927, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Richard Watson Bomberger Sr. and Catherine Downs Schnebly Bomberger.
He was a graduate of St. James School, Franklin and Marshall College, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the Defense Language Institute.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1950 as a recruit and attained the rank of master sergeant.
He attended Army Officers Candidate School at Fort Riley, Kan., and was commissioned a second lieutenant, Medical Service Corps. He attended Medical Field Service School, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas; assigned Medical Replacement Training Center, Camp Pickett, Va.
He was promoted to first lieutenant, assigned to the Office of the Surgeon General, Department of the Army, Washington, D.C. He attended an Airborne, Jumpmaster and Pathfinder course.
As a major his assignments included ROTC Instructor Group, Pennsylvania State University; assistant professor, teaching Military Law and Military Operations, instructor ROTC Summer Camps at Fort George G. Meade, Md., and Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, Pa. He was instructor at Military Assistance Institute, course on Middle East, Arlington, Va.; U.S. Training Mission Saudi Arabia, as an infantry advisor Saudi Arabian Infantry.
As a lieutenant colonel, his assignments included U.S. Army Special Warfare Center, Fort Bragg, N.C.; Military Assistance Command, Executive Officer Studies and Observations Group, Saigon, Vietnam; deputy senior adviser Vietnamese Airborne Division in Saigon and Tay Ninh.
As a colonel, he was assigned to Headquarters 18th Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C. He retired in 1974.
He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and 38 other medals, badges and citations.
He was of the Episcopal faith.
He was a member of Franklin and Marshall Academy and College Alumni Association, St. James School Alumni Association, Pennsylvania State University Alumni Association, Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, Retired Officers Association, 82nd Airborne Division Association, U.S. Naval Institute, National Rifle Association, Korean War Veterans Association, Smithsonian Institution Associates, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah S. Bomberger; two daughters, Mary Catherine Frances Rhodes of Lancaster, Pa., and Anne Elizabeth Hopkins of Lititz, Pa.; one son, Michael David Bomberger of Alexandria, Va.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Watson Bomberger III.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of St. James School. The Rev. J. Stuart Dunnan and the Rev. Kenneth J. Dorsch will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro, with military graveside honors conducted by Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.
There will be no viewing.
