May 19, 2000

Fletcher Wright Pratt of Millington, Md. died Friday May 19th, 2000 in his home of heart failure. He was 89.

Mr. Pratt was born on the farm where he died, near Millington, Md. the son of the late Fletcher and Addie Kemp Pratt. Mr. Pratt was a lifelong farmer and loved seeing plants grow. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. Mr. Pratt also enjoyed going out to dinner often until his health and his wife’s health slowed them down. Mr. Pratt was a member of the Chestertown Baptist church, Chestertown, Md. Mr. Pratt was preceeded in death by a daughter Elizabeth Belle Pratt and 1 brother and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years. Ella M. Pratt, 1 daughter Jean P. Edwards of Millington, Md, 3 sons Fletcher Wright Pratt Jr. of Dover, De. John Thomas “Jack” Pratt of Millington, Md. and W. Garvey Pratt also of Millington, Md. 10 grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday May 24, 2000 at 2:00 pm at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Millington, Md. Friends may call 1 hr. prior.

Interment services will follow at the Asbury Cemetery in Millington, Md.

In Lieu of Flowers contributions may made to the Kent Hospice Foundation 103 Dixon Drive, Chestertown, Md. 21620

Warren W. Watts, Sr., 66 years of age, of Sarasota, Florida, formally of Delaware City, Pa, and Rock Hall, Maryland died on May 18th, at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota, Fl.

Born in Delaware City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Phillip J. and Ruth [Crowding] Watts. He would spend all of his formative years in the Delaware City, and Philadelphia areas.

Mr. Watts entered the service of his country, serving in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged and returned to civilian life. He moved to Maryland’s Eastern Shore, settling in Rock Hall. He enjoyed the activities of the area, and proved to be an avid sports fan. He loved hunting, fishing and crabbing.

During his working career in the area, he was self-employed and was know for his work in the waterfowl picking work. He remained in the area until 1989 when his residence burned. He and his wife Candace moved to Delaware for a short period prior to moving to Sarasota.

While in Sarasota, he founded the Warren W. Watts Courier Service, which he operated until his retirement in January or 2000.

Survivors: In addition to his wife Candace, 2 daughters, Patricia Capel of Chestertown, Md, Kathleen Miller of Aliquippa, Pa, a step-daughter, Kelly C. Farina, of Lithia, Fl.; 3 sons, Warren W. Watts, Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Md., Stephen O Watts of Sedlarsville, Md, Kenneth Watts of Westover, Md, a sister, “Dorothy Gober of Drexel Hill, Pa., 2 brothers, Robert H. Watts of Sarasota, Fl., and Harry Watts of Swedesboro, N.J. and 11 grandchildren survive him.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 27th @ 2PM from the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Md. Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to service. Reverend Gregory Straub will officiate. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall, Md following the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Harry Glenn Hickman, of Easton, died Friday May 19, 2000 near Seattle, Washington while on a vacation trip . He was 75.

Born in Princess Anne, MD, April 23, 1925, he was the son of the late Harry Milton and Mabel Bradd Hickman. After graduating from Washington High School in Princess Anne in 1942, he served in the United States Army in the European Theatre of Operations during WWII. Shortly after his release from active duty in 1946, he was employed by the Coca-Cola Company. He retired from the company in the late 1980's as a refrigeration technician with thirty five years of service.

A resident of Easton since 1949, he was a charter member and former trustee of the Presbyterian Church Of Easton and a member of E. E. Streets Memorial Post 5118, VFW and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 1622, both in Easton.

Mr. Hickman is survived by his wife, the former Julia "Judy" Ann Powell whom he married in Princess Anne in 1948: a son, Bradd S. Hickman, of Ocean Pines, MD. and two sisters, Lucille H. Causey of Delmar, DE. and Peggy Jean Hickman of Princess Anne, MD.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 24 at 1 PM at the Presbyterian Church in Easton.

Burial will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery- Eastern Shore, Hurlock.

Friends may call on Tuesday evening, May 23rd, from 7 to 9 PM. at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Easton.

Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of The Presbyterian Church of Easton, 617 N. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601

May 15, 2000
Margaret J. “Muntzi” Pompar of Easton died on Monday, May 15, 2000 in Salisbury at the home of her son. She was 86.

Born March 30, 1914 in Lowell, MA, she was the daughter of the late Imre and Julia Petrushka Diosy. She completed a three year art course at the Vesper George art school in Boston, MA and during World War II she worked as a draftsperson with Polaroid.

In March 1947 she married Stephen T. Pompar. Mr. Pompar died December 29, 1995.

A resident of Easton since 1954 she attended the Talbot Bible Church and had been a member of Christ Episcopal Church from 1956-1966. She was a founding member of the Academy of Arts, Easton and a local artist who exhibited in various shows including the Waterfowl Festival.

Mrs. Pompar is survived by two sons, Peter Pompar of New South Wales, Australia and Paul Pompar of Salisbury; a daughter, Dr. Stephanie J. Mason of Mt. Airy; a brother, Emri Diosy of Lexington, MA and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2000 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton at 1:00 where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Private burial will be held at the Maryland Veteran Cemetery, Hurlock.

William Henry Nash Sr. of Chestertown, Md. died on May 13, 2000 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital. He was 81.

He was born on August 29, 1918 in Rochester, NY, the son of the late George Henry and Lillian Mulligan Nash.

Mr. Nash served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in Washington, D.C. He married Abbie Eleanor Hinkelman in 1943 and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945. They remained in the D.C. area where Mr. Nash worked for the Department of Defense while attending night classes at George Washington University.

Mr. Nash continued his work with the Department of Defense as an industrial engineer for 35 years retiring in 1980. After retirement, he enjoyed crafting precision tools for the University of Maryland. During this time both he and his wife were very active with University United Methodist Church, where Mr. Nash was a lay leader and trustee. In 1998 they moved to Chestertown, Md. and on October 19, 1998 his wife predeceased him.

Mr. Nash attended Christ United Methodist Church while in Chestertown, Md. where he met many good friends. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, carpentry, and traveling. Mr. Nash was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather.

He is survived by a son: William H. Nash, Jr. of Saudi Arabia, 3 daughters: Rev. Eleanor Laws and Joyce Collett both of Chestertown, Md. and Claudia Keyes of Pittsburgh, Pa. a sister: Lillian Axtel of Akron, Ohio, a brother: Richard Nash of Rochester, NY; along with 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday May 19, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md. where relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md. on Saturday May 20, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 711 Chestertown, Md. 21620 or Christ United Methodist Church P.O. Box 262 Chestertown, Md. 21620.

Anne Carroll Morgan of Easton died on Saturday, May 13, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 76.

Born in Easton on October 30, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Walter Raleigh and Evelyn Sherwood Carroll. She was raised in Matthewstown on a farm and graduated from Easton High School in 1939. She worked in the accounting and customer relations departments at McCord's Laundry & Cleaners in Easton until her retirement. Her husband, Roland Wheeler Morgan, Jr., whom she married on September 18, 1941, died in March 1991.

Mrs. Morgan is a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton. She is also a member of the Ladies of the Elks, B.P.O.E. #1622, Easton, and the Bay Country Region Antique Car Club.

Mrs. Morgan is survived by a daughter, Beverly Morgan Austin of Chester; a son, W. Wayne Morgan of Easton; a brother, Stanley H. Carroll of Easton; a sister, Ruth Carroll Marshall of Easton; and a granddaughter. A brother, W. Raleigh Carroll, died in 1976, and a sister, Marie Carroll Brown, died in 1983.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton on Friday, May 19, 2000 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Thursday evening from 7-9 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD 21601.

May 12, 2000

Mary Ellen Riddle of Neavitt died at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Thursday, May 12, 2000. She was 89.

Born at New Castle, PA., May 29,1910, She was the daughter of the late Howard and Mary Daugherty Fulkerson. After graduating from New Castle High School, She worked as the Credit Manager at the New Castle Store until her marriage on December 19, 1931 to Dr. Ransford J.Riddle, an Opthamologist. They made their home in New York and Sharon, PA., before his retirement in 1970, at which time they moved to Neavitt, MD.. Dr. Riddle died on June 9, 1984.

Mrs.Riddle is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. Pyne of Falling Waters, West Virginia and Kathleen R. Burchett of Neavitt, MD. ; a brother, Jack Fulkerson of Melbourne, Fla. ; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; another daughter, Barbara Joyce Riddle, died in1955.

Services will be held at the graveside at Oak Park Cemetery in New Castle, PA., at a later date.

Memorial donations will be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 585 Cynwood Dr., Easton, MD. 21601

Amanda Marie Harris, formerly of Preston, died on Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was 15.

Born in Easton on August 26, 1984, she was the daughter of Sheila Greenwood Harris. She was a resident of the Holly Center in Salisbury for the last 12 years.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Marjorie Greenwood of Preston; and two sisters, Lynzie Marie Harris of Preston, and Michelle Woodward of Billings, Montana.

Services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holly Center, Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD.
