Alma M. Hewett
Alma M. Hewett, 93, of 701 Knights Bridge Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown.
Born March 27, 1905, in Oakland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Jonathan W. and Millie E. Junkins Moon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Hewett, in 1984.
She is survived by two daughters, June Anderson of Dallas, Pa., and Rose Ellen Johnston of Williamsport; two sons, Robert L. Hewett of Hagerstown and Edward M. Hewett of Shippensburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Susan M. Hewett and Joan L. Anderson.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Nancy A. Palmer
Nancy A. Palmer, 56, of 343 Central Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at her home.
Born Jan. 30, 1942, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Virginia I. Hoover.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Palmer, in 1995.
She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by four sons, Jimmie A. Palmer, Ricky L. Palmer, Jeffrey E. Palmer and Anthony S. Palmer, all of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be today at 12:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Fullen will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
John D. Kendle
SMITHSBURG - John David Kendle, 30, of 12008 Christy Ave., died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at his home.
Born June 22, 1967, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Jean M. Dayhoff Kendle of Smithsburg and the late Gerald L. Kendle, who died Friday, March 27, 1998.
He was a 1985 graduate of Smithsburg High School.
He was a former employee of United Parcel Service; and was most recently employed by Hanks Courier Service, Frederick, Md.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sisters, Kay E. Bergstrom, Donna M. Williams, Barbara L. Jones and Susan M. Kretzer, all of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth and the Rev. Christopher J. Chantelau will officiate.
Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gerald L. Kendle
SMITHSBURG - Gerald Lee Kendle, 66, of 12008 Christy Ave., died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 2, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Victor and Virginia M. Kendle Baker.
He was a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown High School and attended the University of Maryland.
He retired after 35 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
He was a charter member of Beaver Creek Country Club; and served as a marshal at Black Rock Golf Course.
He was a member of NARFE and BPO Elks 378.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jean M. Dayhoff Kendle; four daughters, Kay E. Bergstrom, Donna M. Williams, Barbara L. Jones and Susan M. Kretzer, all of Hagerstown; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, John David Kendle, on Thursday, March 26, 1998.

Robert T. Shaver Sr.
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Robert T. "Bob" Shaver Sr., 72, of 1926 Bunting Drive, died Friday, March 27, 1998, at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga.
He was born in Altoona, Pa.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. As a gunners mate, second class, he served in the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign, where he was present at the invasion of Anzio and Southern France. He was then transferred to UMS 418 leaving for the Pacific Campaign, where he continued in the war effort until January of 1946.
He came to Augusta in 1959 working as a machinist, tool and die man and millwright. He began work at Columbia Nitrogen in 1964, where he was highly respected by his supervisors and co-workers. He retired in 1986 after 22 years of service.
He was a member of Independent Bible Church, Altoona, Pa. He was one of the founding members of the church.
He is survived by three daughters, Susan Lizabeth Shaver and Mary Elizabeth Shaver, both of Augusta, Ga., and Rebecca Ann Landers of Kansas City, Mo.; one son, Michael Deane Shaver of Metuchen, N.J.; one sister, Sally Shaver Reed of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Rowland Funeral Home, North Augusta. The Rev. John Messick, the Rev. Doug Bryant and the Rev. Billy Alford will officiate. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens, North Augusta.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marguerite R. Roman
Marguerite R. Roman, 71, a resident of Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown, and formerly of Hancock, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at the center.
Born Oct. 24, 1926, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Guy and Rentha B. Smith Yonker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd L. "Bub" Roman, in 1981.
She attended Antioch Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.
She is survived by her stepmother, Cleo Keefer of Big Cove Tannery; four daughters, Hilda L. Buskirk, Linda J. Bishop, Barbara C. Bivens and Debbie L. Reed, all of Hancock; three sons, Lloyd W. Roman and Larry L. Roman, both of Hancock, and Steve E. Roman of Warfordsburg, Pa.; three sisters, Lorraine R. Sciese of Hancock, Mary Esta Peck of Big Cove Tannery and Wanda Pickett of North Carolina; one brother, Junior Starliper of Hancock; several half-sisters and half-brothers; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mildred Yonker; and two brothers, Lee Yonker and Freddie Starliper.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Antioch Christian Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery.

James I. Ross Sr.
James Ira Ross Sr., 55, of 436 George St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 28, 1942, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Charles Kenneth Ross of Texas and the late Helen Virginia Robinson Ross.
He was formerly employed by Horner Manufacturing Co.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 694.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Brenda J. Ross; one daughter, Crystal Ross, at home; four sons, James Ira Ross Jr., William Leroy Ross, Jack Andrew Ross and Michael Wayne Ross, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Shirley Everly of Maugansville; two brothers, Roger Ross of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Charles K. Ross of Texas; two grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Earl G. Sigler
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Earl George Sigler, 72, of 8038 Bolivar Road, died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Sept. 22, 1925, in Middletown, he was the son of the late George Henry and Mary Elizabeth Lapole Sigler.
He was a retired security guard at the Department of Energy in Germantown, Md.
He was a member and deacon of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Burkittsville, Md.
He was a life member of AMVETS Valley Memorial Post 9, Middletown.
He is survived by his wife, Frances V. Doody Sigler; one sister, Anna Mae Smith of Middletown; and three brothers, Raymond Sigler of Middletown, Charles Sigler of Frederick and Guy Sigler of Myersville, Md.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Burkittsville. Pastor Teri E. Greiser will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Anna L. Myers
BRUNSWICK, Md. - Anna Lucille Myers, 73, of 535 Brunswick St., died Saturday, March 28, 1998, in Brunswick.
Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Gilbert Russell and Nannie Carol Swain Litten.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Boyd Myers Jr., in 1976.
She was employed as a sales clerk by Bon Ton Department Store in Frederick, Md., since 1980.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Brunswick.
She was a member of Moose Chapter 660 and Ladies Auxiliary of Steadman-Keenan Post 96 of American Legion, both of Brunswick.
She is survived by one son, Kerry L. Myers of Knoxville, Md.; six sisters, Evelyn Wolfe of Martinsburg, W.Va., Margaret Vohees of Florida, Ruby Kimble of Lexington, Va., Virginia Jacox of Utah, Mildred Biser of Burlington, W.Va., and Nancy Litten; eight brothers, Wade Litten of Gibsonville, N.C., James R. Litten, Luther S. Litten and Franklin E. Litten, all of Keyser, Henderson Litten of McCoole, Md., Lee Roy Litten of Lynchburg, Va., Richard H. Litten of Ohio, and Samuel C. Litten of Baltimore; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James Boyd Myers III and William E. Myers; three sisters; and six brothers.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The Rev. Robert A. McCullough will officiate. Burial will be in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.
