Isabel E.W. Snurr

LEITERSBURG - Isabel E. "Missie" Wagaman Snurr, 86, of Leitersburg, died Sunday, April 5, 1998, in Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.

Born June 17, 1911, in Quincy, she was the daughter of the late Charles Daniel and Bertha M. Rock Wagaman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gorman A. Snurr, in 1986.

She attended Quincy schools.

As a young woman, she was employed by Mont Alto Shirt Factory. She then worked with her husband on the farm until his death.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Leitersburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty J. Tressler and Elsie A. Pittman, both of Leitersburg; two sons, P. Daniel Snurr and James O. Snurr, both of Leitersburg; a brother, Kenneth Wagaman of Waynesboro, Pa.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Wagaman; three brothers, Samuel Wagaman, Gilson Wagaman and Barr Wagaman; and a grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Lans E. Alexis will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21325 Leiter St., Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Laurel L. Wheeler

ABERDEEN, Md. - Laurel Lynn Wheeler, 28, of Aberdeen, who died Friday, April 3, 1998, was an organ recipient. Her family says potential organ donors may contact the Transplant Resource Center of Maryland, 1540 Canton Circle Suite R, Baltimore, Md. 21227, 1-800-923-1133.

Mae R. Weicht

FLINTSTONE, Md. - Mae Ruth Weicht, 97, a resident of Allegany County Nursing Home and formerly of Flintstone, died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 13, 1900, in Belle Grove, Md., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Amanda Elizabeth Swain Trail.

Her husband, Dewey Miram Weicht, preceded her in death.

She was a member of Murley's Branch United Methodist Church, Flintstone.

She is survived by three daughters, Adella Ruth Durrett of Hyndman, Pa., Sue E. Kisamore of Flintstone and Shirley L. Bender of LaVale, Md.; four sons, Thomas Weicht of Dover, Pa., Kenneth Weicht of Gaithersburg, Md., Nelson D. Weicht of Little Orleans, Md., and Donald R. Weicht Sr. of Williamsport; two sisters, Evelyn Heavner of Flintstone and Mary Rowe of Cumberland, Md.; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Paul L. Weicht.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland. The Rev. Fred Iser will officiate. Burial will be in Piney Plains Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

James W. Umstad Sr.

CLEAR SPRING - James William Umstad Sr., 73, of Clear Spring, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 4, 1925, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late James Monroe and Blanche Godfrey Umstad.

He retired, after 36 years of service with the U.S. Navy.

He was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church, Hebbville, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Janet Ekas Umstad of Clear Spring; four sons, James W. Umstad Jr. of Clear Spring, Robert C. Umstad and Charles T. Umstad, both of Williamsport, and John M. Umstad of Hagerstown; and four grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Loring Byers Funeral Directors, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, Md. The Rev. Lamar Kopp will officiate. Burial will be in Lorraine Park Cemetery, Woodlawn, Md., with full military honors.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Loring Byers Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, c/o Nick Hill, 11821 Big Spring Road, Clear Spring, Md. 21722; or Salem United Methodist Church, 7509 Windsor Mill Road, Baltimore, Md. 21224.

Local arrangements are by Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring.

Frances V. Loudenslager

WARSAW, Va. - Frances Virginia Loudenslager, 95, of Warsaw and formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wilson Loudenslager.

She is survived by one son, George Wilson Loudenslager Jr. of Warsaw; two sisters, Buryl F. Houser of Hagerstown and Ruth F. Highbarger of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a brother, Marvin C. Fleet of Winchester, Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at Warsaw United Methodist Church. The Rev. Howard Gosnell will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Welch-Marks Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Memorial donations may be made to Warsaw United Methodist Church, Ridgeway Road, Warsaw, Va. 22572.

Frederick D. Miller

LANCASTER, Va. - Frederick Denton Miller, 64, of Ottoman Ferry Road, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at his home.

Born Feb. 29, 1934, in Montgomery County, Md., he was the son of Mary Cecil Miller Meyer of Bozman, Md., and the late James Rogers Miller Sr.

He was a graduate of Catholic University, Washington, D.C.

He served in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Conner Miller of Memphis, Tenn., whom he married Oct. 26, 1996; his children, Mark Denton Miller of Chambersburg, Pa., Steven Miller of Gaithersburg, Md., Michael Miller of Dover, Del., Mary Margaret Miller Shane of Berwyn Heights, Md., Suzanne Miller Best of Lancaster County, Va.; their mother, Margaret Cronauer of Hagerstown; and brothers, James Rogers Miller Jr. of Bozman, and Thomas Cecil Miller of Bethesda.

Early in his career, he worked with a Maryland architectural firm, then started his own firm. He directed Miller Properties, a Maryland-based real estate development firm in Frederick, Md., with his brothers.

He founded Dove's Eye Foundation of the Northern Neck. He served as architect on the Board of Supervisors committee to redesign Lancaster County's subdivision ordinance in the early 1980s.

His worked to establish the Ottoman station of the volunteer fire department.

He had been a member of the American Institute of Architects. He was a member of the Ruritan Clubs of America and was chosen a 1997 "Outstanding Citizen."

He was a director of zoning for Hagerstown.

He formerly piloted an ultralight plane and sailed a sloop.

Services were Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at Carrottomon Baptist Church, Ottomon, Va. Burial was in Baptist Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va.

Richard E. Barnard Sr.

FREDERICK, Md. - Richard Elworth "Barney" Barnard Sr., 76, of 502 E. Patrick St., died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born March 28, 1922, in Bloomington, Md., he was the son of the late Washington and Julia May Jones Barnard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Stein Barnard, in 1993.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army.

He retired after 27 years as a security guard at Fort Detrick. He also worked at Maryland School for the Deaf and Weis Market. He worked the Board Members Gate at Frederick County Fairgrounds.

He was a member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, Mount Airy, Md.; and American Legion Francis Scott Key Post 11, Frederick.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda Watts and Julia Spencer, both of Frederick, and Diane Simmons of Hagerstown; two sons, Alden Barnard of Ockalahawa, Fla., and Richard Barnard Jr. of Mount Airy; a sister, Olive Reeves of Westernport, Md.; a brother, Russell Barnard of Frederick; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his companion, Louise Boyer of Feagaville, Md.

He was preceded in death by a sister and brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Road, Mount Airy. Pastor L. Ross Kirk and Pastor Wallace "Bud" Lusk will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call today from 3 to 9 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation also will be Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Harry W. Price Sr.

Harry Wilson Price Sr., 82, of 10700 Fairway Lane, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 7, 1915, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Robert Alexander and Bertha Elizabeth Becher Price.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna King Price, in 1939.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.

He retired from DuPont after 38 years.

He was a member of Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Cumberland Valley Retirement Association.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta Sellers Price; two sons, Harry W. Price Jr. of Middletown, Del., and Donald Neil of Marrero, La.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Elizabeth Supplee; and a brother, Robert Becher Price.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Charles Griffin will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church, P.O. Box 223, Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Leah E. Dobbins

Leah E. Dobbins, 77, of 412 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at her daughter's home in Hagerstown.

Born Nov. 27, 1920, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph O. and Hattie M. Eckstine Blickenstaff.

She retired as a seamstress from E.J. Fennell.

She was a member of Corbett Street Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond E. Dobbins; a daughter, Linda K. Dobbins of Hagerstown; three sons, Franklin D. Rhinehart and Mitchell D. Dobbins, both of Hagerstown, and Dennis A. Rhinehart of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary L. Ridenour and Jane I. Finniff, both of Hagerstown; a brother, Russell L. Blickenstaff of Chambersburg, Pa.; 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roy L. Rhinehart.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Pastor Lucille Marquiss will officiate, with Paul Marquiss assisting. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
