Thomas F. Wagner
Thomas Franklin Wagner, 93, formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, in Williamsburg, Va.
He was born in Boonsboro.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia B. Wagner.
He retired as a refrigeration mechanic for Civil Service N.O.B.
He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was a life member of Cross Roads Lions Club, a 50-year member of Tidewater Chapter of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and Senior Citizens Bowling League at Bowlarama.
He is survived by one daughter, Virginia Bendura of Williamsburg; two grandsons, Douglas Bendura and Michael Bendura, both of Richmond, Va.; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. William Amon will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Tidewater Drive Chapel.

Eleanor M. Coss
Eleanor M. Coss, 86, formerly of Leitersburg Pike, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Penn Hall Nursing Home in Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Nov. 24, 1911, near Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Max Clayton and Frankie Fogler Unger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert D. Coss Sr., in 1996.
She was a member of St. Peter's Beard's Lutheran Church near Smithsburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Jean Cunningham of Hagerstown; a son, Herbert D. Coss Jr. of West Friendship, Md.; two sisters, Maxine K. Unger and Mae U. Trovinger, both of Hagerstown; three granddaughters; and two grandsons.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Beard's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Carroll L. Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.
Leona L. Harper
CRESAPTOWN, Md. - Leona L. Harper, 73, of Cresaptown, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 18, 1924, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. and Cora C. Bittinger Miller.
She was a homemaker. She was a former employee of Celanese Corp., Cumberland, Md.
She was a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth J. Harper; a daughter, Barbara L. Morgan of Barton, N.Y.; a son, James H. Harper of Cumberland; two sisters, Helen Shaffer of Cresaptown and Betty Sweigert of Potomac Park; a brother, Paul Miller of Cresaptown; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Beckman; and a brother, Harold Miller.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown. The Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, Md.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Irvin W. Gearhart
Irvin W. Gearhart, 86, formerly of 12614 McDade Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Charlotte's Home II, Maugansville.
Born June 16, 1911, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Amos J. and Grace V. Lefever Gearhart.
He was employed by Western Maryland Railroad for 25 years and retired from J.B. Ferguson & Co. in 1974. He also was a farmer.
He was a member of Christ's Reformed Church U.C.C. for 66 years. He served as an elder on the consistory and was a member of Clever-Smith Bible Class.
He was a member of Wacohu Grange for more than 50 years and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He bowled in the Senior Citizens League.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret I. Durbin Gearhart; a daughter, Dorothy Jane Nigh of Hagerstown; two sons, Robert M. Gearhart of Maugansville and Carl D. Gearhart of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary G. Thompson of Greencastle, Pa.; two brothers, James L. Gearhart of Greencastle and Earl M. Gearhart of St. Thomas, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold W. Gearhart.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Donald Moul will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nellie B. Butts
NEERSVILLE, Va. - Nellie Blanche Butts, 87, of Neersville, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Heritage Hall, Leesburg, Va.
Born Nov. 8, 1910, in Loudoun County, Va., she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Rachel Amanda Bagent Stone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Butts, in 1988.
She was a member of Loudoun Valley Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by two sons, David Butts of Sterling, Va., and Russell Butts of Neersville; four grandchildren, Tonya Thornberry and Tyann Kurkowski, both of Raleigh, N.C., Kevin Butts of Purcellville, Va. and Brianne Butts of Neersville; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Perry Stone and Elbert Stone.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Anthan Burch will officiate. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, Va.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles C. Wolf
Charles Coulson Wolf, 79, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Nov. 29, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles Welty and Mary Rachel Reece Wolf.
He graduated from Hagerstown High School. He attended the University of Maryland for one year. He received his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1939.
An employee of Potomac Edison Co., he was appointed the company's director of engineering and construction in 1970. He retired in 1982 after 43 years of service.
He was active in professional engineering organizations and served as president of Hagerstown Chapter of the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers.
He was active in tracing his family's genealogy.
He was a life member of Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown, serving at various times as deacon, elder, trustee and president of the Board of Trustees.
He was a member of Fountain Head Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Foreman Wolf of Hagerstown; two daughters, Barbara Kight of Crofton, Md., and Julia Good of Wyndmoor, Pa.; a sister, Betty Wolf Wiebel of Charlottesville, Va.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at noon in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Ailstock will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The viewing will be Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Dorothy L. Paulsgrove
CHEWSVILLE - Dorothy Louise Paulsgrove, 74, of 12121 Twin Springs Drive, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Florence Rohrer Coyle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris C. Paulsgrove.
She was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Saundra Sammons of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Carol Ann Pepple of Smithsburg; a son, Larry L. Paulsgrove of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary Holmes of Boonsboro; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark J. Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Paul E. Plotner
WILLIAMSPORT - Paul Ellis Plotner, 71, of 17122 Allison Ave., died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 30, 1926, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Howard Ellis and Lillian O. Whitacre Plotner.
A veteran of World War II, he served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and four years in the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed with Winchester Homes, retiring in 1988. Before that he was a self-employed contractor.
He attended Calvary Temple, Williamsport.
He actively supported Explorer Post 17 from 1976 to 1978. He was a member of American Legion Post 202 of Williamsport, where he served as doorman.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley J. Charlton Plotner; a daughter, Donna Marie Plotner Pitsnogle of Hagerstown; a son, Dana "Dan" Plotner of Waldorf, Md.; a sister, Anna M. Houpt of Olympia, Wash.; two brothers, Gilbert S. Plotner of Centralia, Wash. and Clyde E. Plotner of Hagerstown; a grandson, Jarrod C. Plotner at home; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. A graveside military service will be conducted by American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lena M. Shives
CLEAR SPRING - Lena Merle Shives, 93, a resident of Mennonite Old Peoples Home in Maugansville and formerly of Ernstville, Md., died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at the home.
Born March 8, 1905, in Big Pool, Md., she was the daughter of the late Upton Clay and Manie Josephine French Shives.
She was a graduate of Clear Spring High School and Towson State University.
She was a retired school teacher, having 42 years of service in the Washington County School system, starting in 1925 in one-room schools at Orchard Ridge and Shanktown. She was the principal at Indian Springs School for 16 years and taught her remaining 20 years at Clear Spring Elementary.
She was a life member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Big Pool, Md., where she taught and was a former Sunday school superintendent.
She was a member of Cumberland Valley Chorus; Christian Endeavor; Towson Alumni Association and Clear Spring Historical Society.
She is survived by one niece, Janice Shives Kelley of Clear Spring; and two nephews, Gene Shives of Clear Spring and Donald Shives of Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Clay U. Shives, in 1978.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Shanktown Cemetery, Big Pool. The Rev. Dennis Whitmore will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
