Gerald J. Pendley Sr.

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Gerald James Pendley Sr., 68, of 3808 Brethren Church Road, died April 10, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 30, 1929, in Lovettsville, Va., he was the son of Alexis A. Pendley of Lovettsville and Virginia Swope Pendley Compher of Gore, Va.

He was employed for 23 years with H.C. Summers in Jefferson, Md.; and was self-employed as a mechanic for 15 years. He retired in 1991.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Esther P. Dillow Pendley; one daughter, Pamela Summers of Myersville; three sons, Gerald Pendley Jr. of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Terry Pendley and Alexis Pendley, both of Frederick, Md.; four sisters, Shirley Jordan of Harpers Ferry, Phyllis Reynolds of Gore, Carolyn Settles of Strasburg, Va., and Virginia Lee Bauserman of Winchester, Va.; three brothers, Wallace Pendley of Orlando, Fla., George Pendley of Gainesville, Ga., and David Compher of Kearneysville, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Pendley and Allen Pendley.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The Rev. Walter Carey Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Myersville.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shirley E. Paquet

Shirley Elizabeth Paquet, 63, of 11407 Greenberry Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Davenport Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa.

Born June 24, 1934, in Peterborough, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Chester and Mina McNeil Parker.

She was co-founder of Aladdin Awards.

She was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary. She bowled with Early Bird Ten Pin League at Dual Lanes for 40 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Neff of Boonsboro and Beverly Darby of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and five grandchildren, Jessica Neff and Patrick Neff, both of Boonsboro, Michael Darby, Justin Darby and Toni Darby, all of Hedgesville.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Peterborough Cemetery, Peterborough, at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jessie V. Hatter

SABILLASVILLE, Md. - Jessie Viola McKissick Hatter, 90, of Sabillasville, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at St. Catherines Nursing Center, Emmitsburg, Md.

Born Sept. 3, 1907, in Sabillasville, she was the daughter of the late Seridan and Catherine Elizabeth McClain McKissick.

She was a graduate of Eylers Valley School.

She was a member of Eylers Valley Chapel.

She worked for Victor Cullen for 10 years; and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Edgar J. Hatter; a son, Edgar E. Hatter of Laytonsville, Md.; three grandchildren, Eddie B. Hatter of Glenelg, Md., Susan Rose of Gaithersburg, Md., and Bryan C. Black of Middletown, Md.; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.

Service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Eylers Valley Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth C. Hamrick will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont, Md.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Catherines Nursing Center, 331 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Md. 21727.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Thurmont.

David L. Gilbert

David Lee Gilbert, 55, of 50 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 29, 1942, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Esther Mary Naugle Gilbert Baker.

He was employed with a cabinet shop and delivered The Herald-Mail newspaper.

He is survived by three sisters, Carolyn Carbaugh of Thurmont, Md., Martha Highdon of Maugansville and Melody Irey of Oakton, Va.; two brothers, Donald Gilbert of Frederick, Md., and Leon Coyle of Point of Rocks, Md.; aunts, nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Imogene Mowan.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Frederick Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey and Son, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick. The Rev. David C. Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, near Frederick.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to David L. Gilbert Fund, c/o Donald Gilbert, 5248 Gold Mine Road, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Philip W. Shockey

Philip William Shockey, 72, of 20211 Beaver Creek Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 21, 1925, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Philip Randolph and Celia Baker Shockey.

He went to Radio School of Broadcasting.

He was employed with the City of Hagerstown as dispatcher for the police department for 21 years. He also was owner of Shockey Sound Studio for 55 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was a member of Red Men Williamsport 84; Elks Lodge 378; and AARP. He also was associated with Country Church Time Radio Program.

He is survived by his wife, Rose M. Huber Shockey; one daughter, Judy Purdham of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 15 Randolph Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Robert E. Ford

Robert Ellsworth Ford, 69, of 17500 Stone Valley Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 2, 1928, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Foster Ellsworth and Olive Chlorine Hose Ford.

He was a 1946 graduate of Boonsboro High School. He attended Hagerstown Junior College; The Maryland Institute; and Johns Hopkins University.

He served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from the Engineer School of Photolithography, Fort Belvoir, Va.; and remained at the school as instructor of Process Camera.

He designed homes from Connecticut to Mississippi and in the local area. An interior designer, he worked for P.J. Nee Co. of Rockville, Md. He also had been employed by Gladhill Furniture Co. of Middletown, Md. He retired from Martins Fine Furniture, Hagerstown.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where he served several terms on the church council. He was a lay reader, an usher and served on committees. He was a parish delegate to four Delaware-Maryland Synod Conferences.

A motorcycle enthusiast, he was the first Marylander to receive the 100,000-mile award from Harley Davidson.

He was a life member of "Heart of Maryland Motorcycle Club" of Frederick, Md.; and one of the founders of the former Little Heiskel May Club of Hagerstown.

He was a member of Washington County Historical Society; Western Maryland Roundhouse Museum Association; and AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rachel Pauline Murray Ford; one daughter, Laura Elizabeth Danner of Keedysville; two sons, David Ellsworth Ford II and Brannon Murray Ford, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Joanna Ford Ingram of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. David B. Kaplan will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

William J. Lauricella

William Joseph Lauricella, 79, of 12914 Oak Hill Avenue, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Homewood Nursing Center, Williamsport.

Born March 3, 1919, in Lynn, Mass., he was the son of the late John and Lucretia Peralto Lauricella.

He attended Boston University before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was in charge of the dental laboratory at Bradley Field in Connecticut and later at Richmond Air Force Base.

He opened a dental laboratory in Hagerstown in 1947.

He was a member of First Christian Church.

He was a member of Masons, Tall Cedars, Ali Ghan Shrine of Cumberland; Hagerstown Shrine Club for 40 years; BPO Elks Lodge 378; and Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne I. Lauricella; one son, Richard W. Lauricella of Waynesboro, Pa.; one sister, Josephine Savino of Lynn; one brother, Victor Lauricella of Stoneham, Mass.; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Daniel W. Mason

HANCOCK - Daniel William Mason, 81, of Orchard Ridge Road, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 30, 1916, in Pecktonville, Md., he was the son of the late Emmert Wilson and Mary Martha McCormick Mason.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Camp Bond near Westernport, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was discharged in October 1945 with the rank of master sergeant.

He worked at a variety of automobile dealerships in Alexandria, Va., area as a mechanic, service manager, salesman, new car manager and general manager. He was most closely associated with Mount Vernon Motors, later Mount Vernon Dodge, founded by his brother, Charles "Chick" Mason. He retired in 1977.

He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Hancock.

He was a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, RosaLee McKee Mason; one daughter, Bonnie Mason Clevenger of Springfield, Va.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles Henry Mason, Eugene Emmert Mason, Raymond Cornelious Mason, Francis Edmond Mason and Breen Thomas Mason.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The Rev. George W. Glick will be celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, East High Street, Hancock, Md. 21750; or Hancock Rescue Squad Inc., 14734 Warfordsburg Road, Hancock, Md. 21750.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock.
